About this property

Comfortable, immaculate, and pet friendly home with a view of the bay.

Built in 1905 as a grocery store, this historic home was a gathering place for islanders seeking refuge during the 1962 Ash Wednesday storm as mentioned in "Stormy: Misty's Foal" by Marguerite Henry. Today, it is a haven for your family to relax and rejuvenate by the ocean on Chincoteague island. Beautiful Sea Haven is a perfect place to continue your family's story. Enjoy the spacious living room, cozy bedrooms, updated kitchen and bathrooms and the unmatched sea view in a quiet neighborhood.

The living room, dining room, kitchen and all the bathrooms have been recently renovated.

The bedrooms are updated and very comfortable, retaining the charm of the original hardwood floors and original grocery store shelves. As a historic home, it does have some quirks, but you can’t beat the luxury of spacious and updated bathrooms, and a fully stocked kitchen.

The home decor has been put together with a view of comfort, historical interest and functionality. We want the house to be able to tell its story, and we want you to have a delightful stay. The triple bunk was put together with a view towards children spending endless nights telling stories and jokes to each other. The master suite has a balcony that overlooks the Chincoteague Bay.

The porch boasts a futon for an extra sleeping space and an air hockey table for rainy days. There is a waterfront park ten minutes walk away with a swing to watch the sunset, let the dogs play, or put in your kayaks.

You will have access to the entire house and yard. There is a home owners closet that is locked, but the rest of the house and yard is yours.

There are no beaches on the entire island of Chincoteague. The beach is on the Eastern shore of Assateague which is only two miles away and is a National Park. While there are few sidewalks, the speed limit is 25 and there are several roads to meander and explore. The northern neck of the island, where Sea Haven is located, is surrounded by salt water marshes and pond.

Long Weekend with Familu
Used the home as base camp for visiting with family who live on the island. Convenient location (although front deck sits right on the road so didn’t feel comfortable sitting out with coffee for the morning sun). Spacious. Modern kitchen and baths. Everything you need.

We came to Chincoteague several years ago with four kids under the age of 8. The hotel room that we had rented said that we wouldn't fit and they packed us off to our own short term rental. We had a wonderful time pony watching, visiting the Beebe Ranch, exploring the Wallops NASA center, combing the beach for conch shells and swimming in the beautiful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. We love the history of the island and the community of hard working people who love the ocean and appreciate the beauty of nature from sea pipers dancing with the tide to porpoises jumping through the surf. We have been coming back here ever since. We are so excited at the opportunity to share this beautiful place with other families. Our kids have enjoyed crabbing, paddle boarding, bike riding - and the historic pony swim. We hope that this home is a relaxing place after a refreshing day in the sun.

Why they chose this property

When we first found this home, we delved into the history of it. You'll notice that original grocery store shelves from 1905. This building was the gathering place for islanders during the 1962 Ash Wednesday storm that inspired the book, "Stormy of Chincoteague", a sequel to Misty of Chincoteague. This neighborhood is quiet, but perfect striking distance to Maddox Avenue and the town center on Main Street.

What makes this property unique

Not only does this house have a lot of history, it is spacious, clean and comfortable, with recently renovated bathrooms and kitchens making Sea Haven a perfect setting for you to continue to write the history of your family.
