A Touch of Bermuda in Key West
Note: Minimum stay is 29 days / 28 nights. Saturday-to-Saturday bookings required. Exceptions made for special events including boat races and Fantasy Fest. Pets by special permission.
About This Property
A Touch of Bermuda is a privately owned Bermuda-style conch cottage in the Shipyard section of Truman Annex — one of only seven private townhomes available for rent in this gated, 24-hour secured community in the heart of Old Town Key West. This is not a cookie-cutter condo. It is a genuine two-story townhome with wood framing, a sloping tin roof, overhead fans, a front porch on picturesque Southard Street, and a large private back deck — the kind of Key West vacation home that is increasingly rare to find.
The warm color palette was inspired by visits to Bermuda, giving the cottage a distinctive, personal character that sets it apart from standard vacation rentals. Cuban artwork on the living room walls reflects the owner's humanitarian and educational travels to the island.
Property Layout & Bedrooms

Maximum occupancy: 6 guests

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this different from a typical Key West vacation rental? This is one of only seven private townhomes available for rent in the gated Truman Annex. It is the owner's personal home — not a managed property — with two fully separate bedroom suites, free parking, and a large private back deck. It offers significantly more space, privacy, and character than a standard condo rental.
Is parking included? Yes — reserved, secure parking behind the cottage is included at no charge. This is uncommon in Old Town Key West and a meaningful convenience.
How private is the bedroom layout? Very. The master suite is upstairs with its own bathroom. The second bedroom and bathroom are downstairs. The two sleeping areas are completely separate — neither party shares a bathroom.
Is the property good for families with children? Yes. The Splash Pad water play area is at the end of the street. Fort Zachary Taylor beach is within walking distance. The community pool is steps from the back gate.
Are water sports accessible? Yes — snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing charters all depart from the local pier within walking distance of the cottage.
Is there a pool? Yes — the Truman Annex community pool is approximately 100 steps from the back garden gate.
What is the minimum stay? 29 days / 28 nights. Bookings typically run Saturday to Saturday. Exceptions are made for special events such as the Key West boat races and Fantasy Fest.
Are pets allowed? Pets are welcome by special permission from the owner. Contact directly to discuss.
Is there a smaller option available? Yes — the owner also rents a casita (condo) six doors away in the same Truman Annex neighborhood (VRBO listing #1049465), which is a good option for smaller parties.

Again Sue, it was an honor having you as a guest during the the days leading up to and after the family wedding. I hope your return for future celebrations of this memorable event.
Which comes first? A good guest or a good host? Speaking as a host, when I have guests as good as Leonard and his family, it makes being an property owner very appreciative. I would welcome hosting them again.
As a home owner, I value guests who are respectful of their accommodations and leave it in good order. I must say that Thomas and his family fit that description. I would welcome them back at any time.
Great place to stay. Close to restaurants and other activities. i highly recommend.

Glad it seems you had a nice birthday celebration at my home in Key West Thomas. Thank you for staying at my Touch of Bermuda vacation property and you are of course welcomed back for an encore stay. Sincerely, Jack Agnew
I’ve always wanted to stay in the Truman Annex and this cottage did not disappoint! Clean, comfortable and you just cannot beat the location. Secure parking as well. I will definitely stay here again.
A great location, great host and great property! We loved it!

Owners consider themselves fortunate when they have as good guests as Janie and her group. I hope they return as they were respectful of my property; good communicators and very nice people. Who could ask for anything more?
I will be a little more detailed in my response. The guests were terrific. They left the home in good order. They were good communicators and just plain nice people. I hope I can host them in the future and if not, I highly recommend them as guests to other home owners.

Fantastic place to stay in Key West
Jack’s place was perfect for our group of 5. Spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated and in an ideal location. Jack was a pleasure to do business with and to get to know. Looking forward to a return visit.

Gee, one never knows how to react to such a good review. I try to make my place a vacation home away from home but the real world of Key West can sometimes bring a balky toilet or fridge, rain during the prime of a day and still these guests looked at the glass half full. I welcome such folk.
Great townhouse, wonderful location, clean, colorful, nice tropical feel and decor. Exactly as pictured and described!

It is gratifying when a guest writes that they had a good time and liked my vacation cottage. Michelle and family were wonderful guests as was their beloved canine. I would welcome them back at any time.
perfect weather to walk the neighborhoods of Key West, with all the holiday lights shining! Truman annex is a safe walkable neighborhood, the condo had every amenity needed and located so close to the best Key West has to offer. Would highly recommend this property!
Property was very nice. Needs a few minor updates but overall it was very nice.

Thank you for your feedback Carmella and I will email you to get your input on updates you suggest. Sometimes a property owner (me) gets so familiar with various surroundings that they become "friends". But even friends have to be kept current.

Every owner of vacation property hopes to have guests like these folk. There were a couple of surprise issues and these terrific people were laid back, professional and relaxed while the fixes were addressed. They took very good care of my home and I do hope they return.
The location in the Truman Annex cannot be better. It’s a short walk to most attractions in Old Town. Jack provided excellent communication to ensure a smooth vacation. The property is as presented in the listing photos.
Very quiet location yet only 2 blocks from Duval St and all the action and so many restaurants. Excellent privacy for couples vacationing together as one bedroom is upstairs and the 2nd is downstairs. This home has lots of amenities including a dishwasher, washer/dryer, and fully equipped kitchen with condiments. The Truman Annex is very walkable and peaceful with lush landscaping. The owner responded quickly to our questions and was very helpful.
We had a nice time in key west staying in the cottage owned by Mr. Agnew (Jack). It is in a location that is close to everything. We rented bikes for the week and rode or walked everywhere, even to and from the grocery, chartering a boat for fishing and Smather’s Beach. It was nice to have air conditioning as a few days were warm toward the end of the stay. The cottage is older, but in good shape. We enjoyed the front porch, the back patio and the pool which was just down the path. We were glad to be just outside the hustle and bustle of Duval street but it was right there if wanting to shop, etc. Sunsets, ice cream, restaurants, museums, light house, fort Zachary Taylor + beach all a short walk or bike ride away! Perfect location.
The property is just as it's pictured and in a beautiful neighborhood. The location was amazingly convenient, a 5 minute walk or bike ride from everything. The bike rental place is on the same block, so very convenient to pick up and drop off. I almost did not use my car the entire time we were there. The house was comfortable for the 4 of us, plus our large Labrador dog. The host, Jack, was extremely kind and generous and always available if needed. He replied to my emails almost immediately every time. I would definitely rent this house again or any other property from Jack. I'm sorry I waited so long to do this with my family! We absolutely loved it and did not want to leave. We can't wait to come back. - Gina Rovetto & Family

Very Disappointed
Jack was a very communicative owner. The problem is that the home was filthy. There was urine all around the base of both toilets, not to mention the toilet itself was dirty in the downstairs basement. The sinks were caked with grime. The sheets on the master bed were ripped, stained and wore out so badly they wouldn’t stay on the mattress. There was not any bedding for the pullout couch, and we were told there would be. The blankets we found were ripped with holes and stained. The doors, floors, bannister railing were black with dirt. The chairs on the back deck were covered in bird/lizard feces and the deck was dirty with broken boards. Several throw pillows had blood stains on them. The hammock in the pictures is literally rotting in the back yard along with other garbage. Also the owner let himself into the home while we were there. There was also an elderly neighbor who rang our doorbell at least once a day, multiple times to tell us to turn lights off. The owner was notified of the issues, but nothing was ever rectified. We were so disappointed. He seems like a nice man, but that home is not acceptable.

This very misleading "review" is very sad. Please note that every other review is 5 stars including one THE week before this troubled guest arrived, Cleaning is done following CDC standards. I could go point by point addressing every misleading description but I will let the other reviews speak for themselves. Interestingly this troubled family did not mention the gift certificate I gave to them for their unhappiness. I do acknowledge the interuption from an elderly neighbor with dementia but security who are right out front were never called Anyway, read all the reviews p;ease.
Very well cared for cottage with island theme throughout. Location at Truman Annex entrance is perfect, 2 blocks from Duval Street, and reserved parking space is 30 steps from front door. There is scooter parking on Thomas Street within 30 yards for rentals. Just can't say enough about how well we liked this cottage.

About the host
Hosted by Jack Agnew
I'm a semi retired guy who was in the television and marketing/public relations industry and is now a professional character actor/singer on stage and I teach Marketing and Public Relations at a university in Boston, MA every Fall. My oldest daughter was married here in Key West and it's a special place for me as I hope it will be for you.
Why they chose this property
I always had TAE (Truman Annex envy) when my two daughters and I were visitors and renters in Key West. I vowed I'd live here one day and when I sold my public relations firm in 1999, I bought a small two bedroom, one bath condo and five years later this much larger two bedroom, two bathroom cottage. I am in Key West at least six months a year and rent out my home when I am not in town.
What makes this property unique
A Touch of Bermuda in Key West is my 'friend with benefits' as everything I want to see or do is within walking or biking distance. You are in walking distance to the nearby Ft. Zach beach and the new water splash pad for children is just down at the end of the block. . One couldn't ask for more.
