Clean, comfortable and easy

This was a great location for the Avett Brothers concert. Having bikes with us made it easy to get around the island. The house is quirky with an in-ground tub, and each bedroom sleeping 3, but it was clean and comfortable. We had a great time and would definitely stay here again.

Worked fine for us but needs some TLC

Stayed for the weekend and the house worked just fine for our small family and my wife's parents. Great location just a short bike ride from downtown St. Simons Island. Well stocked and equipped but needs some TLC. Lots of bees nesting in/around the back of the house. Both keyed doors take some work to operate. Fun loft for the kids but the stairs are steep - wouldn't recommend for any kids under 5 or 6. Not sure how people get in and out of that MBR shower over the age of about 60. FYI - there is a little lizard friend living in the MBR - we tried to catch him, but failed. Thanks!

Unrealized potential

Pros Nice layout allows privacy for multiple guests Reliable wi-fi service Private back yard surrounded by tall fence Bikes and beach gear provided Cons House wasn't clean when we arrived. Dirty floors and unscrubbed toilets Aging appliances. We had 2 of them fail while there. Happily, dryer was repaired by the end of the day we reported it Neighborhood noise level can be high at times with leaf blowers, mowers, home repairs & jet departures from nearby airport Rental rate is increased on Friday and Saturday nights Not really within walking distance of beach

We enjoyed our time at the Banana House

Overall, our stay was really enjoyable. This cottage is really roomy. I would suggest that the appliances be updated. They are outdated and hard to use. Also, we could not get the front door open and were disappointed that the outdated jacuzzi was indoors. But, all things considered, we would return to this cottage. It is very convenient to everything. I think it was well worth what we paid to stay at the Banana House.

Banana House Relaxing Getaway

Banana House is a cozy, comfortable retreat. My wife and I don't do much while we're on vacation and Banana House was the perfect place to do nothing. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well designed with everything in easy reach. The wifi was great. I had one minor issue and called the property owner/manager (not sure which), left a message and was quickly called back. I would suggest the owner get an electrician in to look at the lights in the guest bathroom (which I used almost exclusively) as they flickered and would go dark, requiring flipping the switch on the left fixture on and off until they stayed lit. This was a very minor problem that did nothing to diminish our enjoyment of the property.

Nice place, mix of modern conveniences with a lived in feel to it

We used the house for a crew of guys to stay in while working in the area. It served its purpose. Rustic house that had the “lived in” feel to it, guys were right at home. Pictures made the house seem bigger than it actual was. Cozy little neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.

50s Jewel on St. Simon

The Banana House is a a quaint gem that appears to have been built in the 50s. The house still has some of it's original features which adds to it's charm. It may not be the fanciest house but it was perfect for our party of 7, The Natural Readers Book Club. The house is in a great location., only a 4 min drive or 20 min walk to Massengale Park/Beach. Chelsea was great! She lived nearby as was available if we needed anything. Would definitely stay again. I have to add, if you are a smoker, this is NOT the house for you. There are understandably hefty fines for smoking in the house and on the premises.

Acceptable with room for improvement

The location is great but the place was dated on the inside. The interior design was unique but the dated furniture kept the place from being aesthetically fabulous. The master bed room was long but the bathroom shower/ Jacuzzi is totally useless. The shower barely had enough pressure for a normal shower and the shower drain was very slow. It was a very odd set up. The house had great room to spread out in though. They did have some new appliances like washer and dryer. However, the central a/c unit would struggle during days over 88 degrees. The house would get cool but not cold most of the time. They owners did leave a lot of useful things for us to use like a gas grill, bikes to ride, lawn chairs for the beach and other goods of this sort. One of the couches had a large hole in it and was covered by the couch pillow. The moment you sat down, you sunk down in the couch. This is not very comfortable. They did have a large TV in the living room and a tv in the master bedroom with basic cable. I did like the fact that they had a "not pets" policy because we are very allergic to pet dandruff and pet hairs. Overall, we made the place work for us and it was better for us than a hotel. However, there is much to be improved so this place will be a place we would revisit again.

A great little place!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Banana House. The sleeping arrangements were perfect for our 2 families. It may not be the fanciest house on the island, but it was fun and very practical.

We Didn't Go Bananas For This House

The house was quirky and in a great location. However, we felt deceived by the pics. We didn't realize the house was so dated, and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned well in a while. Used soap from previous visitors was still in the bathroom, and there was soap scum on the faucets. However, we had more than enough space and have no major complaints aside from cleanliness and the lack of updates to the property.

Quirky and roomy

Great home near town and the airport. Everything you'd need in the kitchen, laundry and bath and more is provided. Seems bigger because of the multi levels and loft. Master suite is like another whole apartment. Enjoyed the bikes. We'll be back!

Great place for the family

We had a great time staying @ Banana House. Duel-Family stay w/ 4 adults & 4 kids. Located on a quiet street, close to playground & park, not too far from shopping & eats, & not too far from beach. All amenities I would expect, full kitchen, linens, towels, dishwasher, washing machine & dryer, & plenty of space for family time. We loved the fenced in backyard, wagon, bicycles, beach umbrella, & toys for the kiddos. Our family was VERY pleased with our stay & we truly enjoyed Banana House. Already planning our next stay!!!!!!!!!

Charming & comfortable

This house is absolutely precious! It has a super cute nautical charm & plenty of space. It's really close to nightlife & shopping. Everything in the house works great, too. I will definitely stay on this property again and I can't wait to show it to my other friends and family!

Awesome - Quirky, comfortable, and convenient!

We stayed at Banana House for my sister's 30th birthday weekend and had a truly fantastic time. The house wasn't perfect - it is very old and, in some places, its age showed. I was also disappointed in the back deck and lack of mirrors, but shortcomings aside, it compensated with plenty of quirky charm, comfort and convenience. Charm and comfort: The house has a unique style, combining rustic and traditional elements, with some beautiful decor and furniture pieces. We enjoyed the loft and cabin-like feel of much of the house. It was clean and organized and had a very homey feel. We were so comfortable just chilling around the house, I almost didn't want to leave to the beach. Convenience: This house had almost anything you could possibly think to need. All the beach stuff was super useful since we didn't bring much with us - there were towels, chairs, coolers, boogie boards and more. There was also entertainment provided for all ages, including bikes, board games, blocks and more. The kitchen and pantries were stocked full and there were plenty of extra pillows and blankets. The beach and town were just a short drive (or bike ride) away. As stated above, my only two criticisms were of the porch and mirror situations. Porch: The back screened-in porch was too disorganized and over-crowded, and some beach items had not been adequately cleaned or were broken. This made it feel unclean and uninviting - a shame because otherwise it had a cute sitting area that would have made for a great place to relax and have morning tea or whatever. Mirrors: There wasn't a single full length mirror in the whole house, which is a serious problem when you have 4 women trying to get dressed. EVERY house, hotel, and otherwise should always have at least one full length mirror in it! Other than that, we had a wonderful time and cannot thank the owners enough for everything!

The bomb! Delivered as promised. Superb get-away to check out St. Simon Island.

Project team and crew completed job at FLETC in one week and deserved a great break. Definitely funky and different, but perfect escape for a short celebration. Pictures did justice to the property and amenities at hand. The bedrooms, linens and pillows, loft area, and the comfy living room, patio, and enclosed sun room with beach accessories were plentiful. Needed more time. Quiet, relaxing, and off the beaten path and away from crowds. We brought way too much food, and had to throw in a BBQ pit for use by the Texas crowd for chicken and ribs, but all the kitchen cooking accessories necessary and supplies were easily provided. Lots of towels, and outside chairs, and the bikes were a great way to explore the surroundings and beaches. As previously stated, the Banana House ROCKS! Many thanks, Jan and the Gang

Very homey and quaint. Comfortable with all that you would need.

We wanted to stay in a place that felt like we were away from it all, and this cottage did the trick. All the unique details and art remind you of St. Simons and the Georgia Coast. Inn Keepers were there when you needed them. Some would say the house needs some TLC, but I feel it added to the charm and overall character. Would stay again...

Banana House Rules!

The Banana House is the ideal vacation rental while visiting St. Simons Island. My family of six was well accommodated in this adorable bungalow. In proximity to historic downtown and nearby beach access, we could not have stayed in a better location. We will be returning to the Banana House for many years to come!

Favorite house on SSI

My wife and I have been coming to this house for years and we absolutely love it. Great location, cleanliness, amenities and layout. You are within walking distance to the pier and if you would prefer to bike they are available. We love this house and will be continuing to stay here for the foreseeable future. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to enjoy Georgia's best kept secret.

FIRST visit to Saint Simons and the Georgia Islands as a whole.

I am from Central Coast California, near Hearst Castle. I'm pretty picky when it comes to where I stay on my rare vacations to the East Coast. This home was REALLY NICE. Excellent location, all necessary kitchen and sleeping 'extras' and good internet and TV. I'd stay there again at the drop of a hat. Plenty of room for everyone. A nice, quiet 'end of the road' location that's proximate to the heart of the small but 'quaint' downtown, the beautiful Georgia Seacoast, and tons of Southern History. Check it out~! !

2/10 Terrible

Worst place we've ever rented!

This rental was terrible: outdated and uncomfortable furniture; signs with "do's" and "don't's" posted EVERYWHERE; photos on website "brochure" totally unrepresentative of the property; closets, pantries, etc., crammed with owners' personal effects with no room to hang/store renters' clothes; bedrooms filled with additional blankets/quilts/sheets/linens in every section of the room; kitchen appliances outdated or nonfunctional; dirty kitchenware stored in drawers/cabinets; bathrooms lacking towel racks but filled with old/too many towels, linens, quilts, etc.; "sunken" tub/shower in MBR is dangerous!; screened porch filled with "beach stuff" - swim tube, wagon, dirty cooler, beach chairs, beach umbrella, etc.; items that previous renters complained about (i.e., key to front door not functional from the outside, necessitating entry and exit from back door) not repaired even though website for property says they have been repaired; outdoor lights burned out/not working which made getting back into the house at night challenging/difficult as one had to go through the back door. Additionally, the property is grossly overpriced compared to nicer VRBO homes in the same area. This home should be removed from VRBO's listing until it is improved/renovated and the photos and property description on the site reflect what the property actually looks like.
