About this property
Freshly Renovated Classic Home in Downtown Bar Harbor
This fully renovated downtown home features an exceptional location in the heart of Bar Harbor within walking distance to all downtown restaurants, shops, a supermarket, and amenities including the main hub of the island wide free bus system. Walk to the local bike shop to rent bikes, pack a lunch and head straight to the dock where your boat departs, or grab the kids for a quick pre-dinner ice cream. You're on vacation, after all, spend your time playing and not driving!
Situated in a small quiet residential neighborhood in the heart of Bar Harbor and just a stone's throw from the grocery store, the Honeybee House is a historic 1920’s home that was completely renovated with a more functional open floor plan and bright big kitchen.
Featuring a lovely yard with a vibrant flower garden that compliments the deck with picnic table and gas grill, a large furnished glassed-in sun porch welcomes you into the house. Downstairs is the living room with ample seating, a spacious modern open kitchen, breakfast bar, dining area, and full bathroom. A door from the kitchen leads to the grill area and deck. With the proximity to the grocery store, this arrangement is great for cooking enthusiasts by providing the opportunity for some wonderful family meals.
The second floor is the sleeping area with 3 bedrooms and a full bath. The master bedroom has a king and stunning handcrafted cherry wardrobe; the second bedroom is a custom queen over queen bunk bed, allowing for 1 or 2 couples or a gaggle of kids; and the third bedroom has a queen. Window units for AC in primary bedroom and bunk room only. The Honeybee House is just the right combination of quiet yet convenient, with ample space and historic charm, yet an affordable rental price.
You get the whole house, the flowers and hummingbirds, and all the fresh air of Acadia National Park you can handle. 2 off-street parking spots on parking pad (2 cars max).
We have been managing property rentals since the year 2000 and have had the pleasure of serving over 1000 tenants since that time. We are physically located nearby to the Honeybee House in case you need us, but we respect the privacy of our guests.
We know from our own experience that managing family vacations can be quite a job. A little local knowledge and some extra help can make your vacation more enjoyable and hassle free.
Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area and are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. We live here year round and are raising our kids here. Thus, each year we donate a portion of our proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area and people living here.

About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Wales

Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993.
Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline.
In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal.
Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services.
Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

Why they chose this property
Jen has been looking for just the right downtown property to round out the rental properties offered since 2000. She’s looked at dozens of properties searching for just the right combination of quiet yet convenience, ample space yet an affordable rental price, and up to date yet historic charm. She finally found it in the Honeybee House and is delighted to offer it rounding out the offerings of properties at Mountain Sea Properties. This home is brought to you with all the same quality and care that can be expected from all our properties including local information and recommendations, vacation services, cleanliness and quality lines, kitchenware and furniture.
