About this property
Renovated Church Sanctuary: Ski and Swim, Relax, Cook, Gather.
I bought this church from the Roman Catholic Diocese 15 years ago.
25 foot cathedral ceilings, six burner cook stove, soapstone farm sink, double shower heads, two full baths, original stained glass with beautiful morning light. House yoga mats, gas fireplace, 40" flat screen with cable and couch and stuff chairs for lounging and talking, 9' cherry dining table
The stained glass is original and is illuminated each morning by the sunrise coming up over the hill. This stunning space is the result of a three year renovation. The curved walls and archways create a true sanctuary like space that is hard to leave once you are there.
Stratton Mountain is 30 minutes to the access road and under 35 to Mount Snow. Brattleboro, just five minutes away, has been voted consistently as one of the best small towns in America to visit. If you want to ski, snow shoe, shop, eat, sip local brew and explore the town, or never leave the Sanctuary, this is your spot!
The master suite is up in the extended 'choir loft' that I built out to make a spacious bedroom and dressing room, and has it's own full bath with double-headed shower and 54" claw-foot tub.
There are two beautiful, very small private rooms to the left and right of what used to be the altar. They feature curved walls, queen beds, and a large skylight in each. There is a full bathroom for these rooms with European style shower as well as full laundry for the house.
The kitchen is a chef's delight with a six burner, two grill, double oven Garland Restaurant gas stove, double soapstone farm sink and beautifully detailed concrete countertops. Lots of counter space and a large farm table island in the middle provide adequate prep, serving and 'hang out' space (everyone seems to love to congregate in the kitchen!).
The heat is radiant floor which is wonderful for this space with 25' vaulted ceilings. There is also a propane instant on-demand glass door fireplace on the 'altar' for ambience throughout the space and cozying up to after a day on the mountains.
The TV lounge under the choir loft has couches and a lounge chair for watching movies, reading and relaxing. We have cable, Netflix and Amazon capability through the Blue Ray player, and of course, high speed Internet.
There are country roads for walking, a wonderful river to visit nearby, a great neighborhood if you want to make friends, and the US post office right in the village.
The Church is a most welcoming and generous space for one to six!

About the host
Hosted by Natalie Blake

The church has been my home since 2001. I am a ceramic artist
I co-own a contemporary craft gallery three miles from the house called Fire Arts Vermont which is three miles from the house-- a twenty artists collective showing my ceramics, furniture, blown artglass, jewelry, lighting and more.
My partner Nick bought and renovated the home next door, and we live in both like Frida and Diego. The church is technically my home, and the house next door his.
We love cooking, and therefore great kitchens, and most of all, we love to create great spaces so that friends and families can let down and have a great getaway.

Why they chose this property
Because it's a renovated church, and it's a womb. It loves having friends come to stay. I have had so many guests stay, and we all agree, there is a vibration in the space that feels like home, and loves you up with all the beautiful colors, art I've collected, stained glass, and places to lounge, stretch on the floor, or site by the fire.
