The house was wonderful, and the host was wonderful. We agree with all of the positive comment that others have stated. Checkin was not wonderful because VRBO sent the wrong code the day before so we had to stand in the cold until we could find the correct code from the owner. It appears our experience being next to the lighthouse was worse than others because, for more than 24 hours we heard the fog horn go off every 10 seconds (no exaggeration). we had one a set of earplugs that helped a little. If you expect fog, make sure you take the best earplugs, you can buy
Stunning area to stay with well maintained cottages and very comfortable beds. My sister and I rented both cottages and this spot was beautiful. The owners brought us more water for the cooler within an hour of asking and helped with advising places to go for groceries, golf etc. A couple of things to note is that this is a public land mark and you get a-lot of hikers, tourists and runners on the property although all were quite respectful. We called to road leading to the cottage “the road of fear”. It is one way, edging the cliff, winding and steep. We rented trucks so this was manageable but still very scary. I would recommend renting smaller vehicles and after a couple of trips it gets less fearful. Be careful and go slow. Once you make it to the top it’s a spectacular spot with stunning surroundings and views. Don’t forget to hike the “dead-mans trail” steps away from the property. Fort Amhurst made our trip a lifetime memory.
What an excellent stay. Totally great property in an extremely unique and historic location. Kitchen well stocked, comfy living area, comfy beds and the best views ever. Good internet, nice deck area, and it was so fun talking to people coming to check out the lighthouse who were amazed that you could rent the place. We booked 14 months in advance when the listing was already 1/3 booked for the summer, get it early folks!
What a wonderful, cozy cottage with an amazing view. You're able to watch boats go in and out of the harbor as well as the expansive ocean and coastline to the south.Easy to get to and close to many restaurants and shops. The cottage itself Has nice, large windows.
Beautiful century home with updates for comfort that do not take away from it's historic charm. Best view of the St. John's harbour and Signal Hill. Love watching the boats come and go. What a fantastic start to our vacation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The view directly of the lighthouse and entrance to St. John’s harbour made this home the best place in St John’s! The king size bed was SO comfortable, and all the facilities perfect for our needs. We stayed 3 nights, had the full range of weather from rain, fog (complete with foghorn!), snow (in mid-April!) and then beautiful sunshine, but we enjoyed it all. If we come back to St John’s, we will book again!
The Light Keeper’s Cottage was an extraordinary unique experience in places to stay. The home is comfortably furnished, updated, clean, and the hosts were extremely responsive from pre-booking to check out. The beautiful view is a one of a kind experience too. Additionally, the entire area of St.John’s was a traveler’s delight with cordial, helpful locals, great food, and many things to do and see.
A great view from the home! The drive up was a little
