Splendid westerly views and gorgeous sunsets to be enjoyed by family and friends from this tasteful Cape's spacious deck, living and dining rooms, sunroom, and kitchen. Enjoy the wonderful ambiance of this easy-living floor plan with a first-floor bedroom, bath, laundry area, living room with fireplace and built-ins, a large dining area with a wide window seat, and a dining table with room for 10 people. Upstairs are two more bedrooms ( three twins and one queen) and a bathroom with a shower (no tub). The property has incredible perennial gardens with a path that leads down to the waterfront. At the waterfront is an Island owned by the Damariscotta River Association, which can be walked during low tide. The island is a great place to swim during high tide. We have three kayaks that are free to use during your stay, but please be aware that there is a steep path down to the river, we don't have a dock, and there is usually only a four-hour tidal window during which you can kayak. You must sign the waiver forms displayed in the garage to use these kayaks. The property is ideally positioned to explore the coast of Maine via the river, visit Pemaquid lighthouse just a few miles down the road, spend time in the picturesque town of Damariscotta (1.6 miles), or explore further afield by visiting Boothbay Harbor (25-minute drive), Bath (20-minute drive) or Camden (40-minute drive). Damariscotta was recently voted the #1 spot to visit in Country Living's article "40 American Towns You Haven't Heard of but Should Visit ASAP". This property is set back from a busy road 129/130, and when the windows are open, you can hear the traffic - you don't notice it after some time - so complete silence is not something you will get at this property. All of our appliances are new. The house has HVAC ACs in all rooms and is well equipped to handle the heat when it gets hot. This property is back on the market with a new deck, a change of sidings, and renovations to the inside of the house. We no longer have anyone living in the independent basement flat. This flat remains empty while we rent our property to guest.

Location is perfect. House is clean and well-appointed. The views from the deck are perfect with a coffee in the morning and wine in the evening.

Gabrielle and her family were perfect guests. They left the house in perfect condition and even started a load of laundry. We would recommend Gabrielle and her family to any rental.
House was amazing, had everything you could need for a relaxing get away! We enjoyed the deck overlooking the water! Easy check in and check out, great communication! Thank you for sharing your home!

Thank you for renting our home and taking care of it as if it were your own. We hope you return.
Owners and local caretaker Kathleen, were very great communicating everything. House was beautiful and had all the amenities. Individual AC units in each bedroom were a really nice addition on the hot days. Would absolutely recommend this place and would stay again next time I come back home to visit my local Maine family.

Fantastic Home!
So glad we came across this home for rent! The location was fantastic and just where we needed and the view from the back deck was breathtaking! The home is very spacious and comfortable! The only constructive criticism I would have is maybe with some of the supplies, there weren't any face cloths and toilet paper was limited, so we went and bought some. Otherwise, totally decked out to accommodate everyone in your family! Thank you very much and we will totally rent here again!!!

Thanks, Lori. I am glad you had a comfortable stay, we enjoyed hosting you. I am sorry that there were no face cloths and that there was not enough toilet paper. Our cleaner normally leaves extra toilet paper in the bathroom closets, and her number is available in our guest book should future guests need to get in touch with her for more supplies. The face cloths should be on your bed when you arrive along with the towels . Do let our cleaner know if supplies are out.

Nice, quiet home set back from the river
We stayed at this property for a wedding because of the great reviews and the distance to everything. We really enjoyed this house and all it had to offer. We really felt at home and the quietness and cool Maine mornings were perfect to wake up to. The only slightly negative thing I would say would be the beds/mattresses are a little dated. So, if you're used to something different, it may take some adjusting. No big deal, just thought I would add. Overall, we really enjoyed this property and I would rent again. Thanks!

Thanks for your review and for your extremely positive feedback, we enjoyed hosting you. In terms of the beds, just to clarify for future guests, the bed in the master bedroom, 1st floor, is certainly dated, but the mattress is brand new and is on the firm side - I suffer from a bad back. The beds and mattresses in the second floor are all from Ikea and are only a couple of years old - you can see them in the photographs.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a week this summer. The house is close to everything! The kitchen was well appointed, the beds were comfortable and the renovated bathrooms were wonderful. We loved the deck and watching movies in the TV room. All the appliances worked well and we were grateful for the printer and filtered hot/cold water which not all houses come with. Though we didn't take out the kayaks, we did wander down to the lakeside at low tide and were amazed to find so many live wild oysters! It's a beautiful spot. Lastly, the house is really beautifully decorated. We enjoyed looking at the art and the color combinations. It was a truly lovely home base for our adventures in this part of Maine. Thanks for having us!!

Property was very convenient to downtown and nearby towns as well as only 1hr away from Portland. Property was beautiful, great views, kitchen well stocked, older appliances but all worked well. 5star property other than our only 1 complaint and it's kind of a big one...The beds are awful, hard as a rock, thin 4-6" mattresses, everyone in our group woke up sore, bodies aching, bruised feeling and slept horribly. I have seen that other guests reviews have complained about this issue before to owner and I truly believe it is not an expensive issue to correct but a very very important one.
Everything else was wonderful, I would not hesitate to recommend if the mattress get replaced.

Thank you for your review. In the past, guest have said that our beds our dated, so I appreciate the fact that you actually have identified what the problem is. In response to your review we have changed the three mattresses in the room - for children - with three beds, and have also updated the mattresses in the other two rooms. Hopefully, this is the last we will hear about the beds.
Our group conspired of five adults. The house was big enough for all of us and the beds were comfortable. The house was very clean and quiet. It’s very convenient to the town core.
Wedding weekend for a family wedding… lots of living space, beautiful views from the deck, everything u could need was supplied. Owner couldn’t have been more accommodating. Thank you for a beautiful memorable weekend.
Really lovely home, immaculately clean and spacious for a large family. Plenty of sleeping options, beautiful huge deck. Owner is super responsive if anything comes up. Upgraded appliances and finishes throughout. On the road but surprisingly quiet. Water access a bit of a hike. Highly recommended.

Nice
House is very nice and spacious. Great location. Some housekeeping was missed and short on household supplies. Main floor shower slow drained so you stood in water. Didn’t realize someone lived in basement separate entrance when rented. Would not stay here if knew. Was informed his bedroom was below main room and when he went to bed. Not ideal for vacation home rental.
Everything was good, Towels and linens needed to be upgraded to hotel quality,
One of the twin beds was not a true twin bed in the King size bed room. The Culligan water station was a nice ammenty. The back porch view of the river is awesome. Having a person living in the basement was uncomfortable.
The house was very comfortable and most amenities were provided.
I expected to be closer to the water and have easier access to the water and kayaks. The owner was helpful in explaining the best times kayaking.
House is very spacious, fully equipped with all essentials, quiet neighborhood and close to restaurants, shops and Hannaford’s grocery store. We were a family of 6 adults (3 couples). The deck and furniture are brand new and we hung out there for breakfasts and at sunset. Host Nishad was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay of five days! Thank you Nishad and Alex the property manager too!
We really enjoyed our stay. Some of our pros and cons would be:
Pros: owner provided lots of information and ensured we had everything needed to enjoy our week.
- house was very spacious and furnished.
- centrally locates to beaches, restaurants,
And family activities.
- house was stocked with everything we needed.
- LOVED The foosball table
Cons: the only issues we found were the lack of dock for access to river. We were only able to kayak and canoe once with the family because of difficulty in access to river.
- We (having three kids) would have liked a lock on the master bedroom door for additional privacy.
Thank you Nishad for sharing your home with us during our getaway.

We enjoyed hosting Becca and family and would be happy to see them return.
In terms of the kayaks, the river is a tidal river and there is usually a four hour window when you can easily kayak by dragging the kayaks into and out of the water off a grassy bank. However, this is not possible when the tide is low and while once in a while it's okay to use our neighbor's dock, we don't have a dock as we don't own land there but only have access to the riverfront. I do send the tidal times to guest prior to their arrival.
Enjoyed it very much! Beds were very comfortable, kitchen was stocked with everything that we needed. House is centrally located, very roomy for a family gathering!
We stayed five nights and found the home to be roomy, comfortable and well supplied with all we might need. Having water access with a canoe and three kayaks was wonderful for us.
When I discovered this rental property on Vrbo, I booked it right away after reading all the reviews and looking through the photos. It seemed like the perfect fit for our family of five adults - three sons 18, 21, & 23; it did not disappoint. The house is perfectly situated to all the places we know and love in the Damariscotta area - downtown Damariscotta, Wiscasset, Pemaquid Beach, the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve, Round Top Ice Cream, and Muscongus Bay Lobster. We played games and ate on the deck as often as we could; the retractable awning is brilliant! We watched movies in the tv room and lounged in the living room and work area. The kitchen is small, but was more than adequate for the meals we made; appetizers/game night, grilled burgers & chicken using the charcoal grill, blueberry pancake breakfast, and spicy Asian noodles. We all slept incredibly well, as the mattresses were fairly new and firm. The downstairs bedroom has no AC, but I thought the window fan worked as it should; if we had been too hot, we would have chosen the upstairs bedroom as both upstairs bedrooms are equipped with AC. Nishad was so great to work with, from beginning to end. He promptly answered all my questions and concerns; having us read the guestbook before arrival was genius on his part. It was full of everything we needed to know: how not to miss the correct driveway, how to work the blinds, AC, and retractable awning, how important it is to know the difference between canoeing on a lake and a river, and things to see and do in the area. Nishad checked in with us a few times during our stay, really desiring satisfied guests. I’m afraid by leaving this glowing review, it will limit the availability of this property for our next trip. But here it is: we loved it!

Thanks, Judy. So glad you enjoyed your stay, I hope you will return. Judy and her family were perfect guests. They followed all of our instructions, communicated extraordinarily well, and left the house spic and span - it was hard to tell that a family had spent three days in the house. Thank you, Judy and family and we would love to have you back.
A good house for a family to spend time together, open and lots of light. Owner very responsive to texts and questions. Nice deck to enjoy outside. We spent more time away during the weekend for a family wedding , but the Downtown is close by with nice shops and little restaurants. Could not pack in all we wanted to do, i.e. the kayaks at the house and the lighthouse not too far away. Next trip to Maine will be longer!
This is a beautiful home with owners who definitely take great care and pride in their guests' experience. Damariscotta is a terrific little town, and I believe well situated in mid-coast Maine. Our crew of mostly kids ages 5-14 had a wonderful week.
Here is how I'd summarize our experience with the house/property and owners:
Pros:
-we were given very thorough check-in instructions and there is an onsite property manager if you need anything
-we could see the Damariscotta River from the deck and dining room which made for pretty sunrises/sunsets
-well stocked kitchen and amenities--added fun was the bird seed to get to refill the feeders which my 5 yr old really loved
-the kayaks and canoe (and related equipment) were a real bonus --we went out everyday and saw seals everyday; you can even tie on the dock in town and grab ice cream
-the tvs and gaming system were appreciated by the kids
-there was plenty of space for there to be reading, eating, playing, etc all in different areas
-the very thorough guest book helped us to plan our activities each day to swim, kayak, shop, and even what restaurant we wanted to go to and that we wisely needed reservations!
Cons:
-after first night, no one slept in the upstairs bedrooms as it was just too hot even with windows open and fans on, plus all the mattresses in the house could use some updating
-the water system is limited so you can't run the dishwasher or the washing machine more than 1x a day and the showers can't run at the same time--at one point we had 3 adults and 5 kids so that made life a bit more difficult
-the hike to the kayaks and back is not too long (5 min), but a fairly steep hill coming back--plus there was construction the entire week on the private road you must walk back up so we were dodging construction vehicles
-the main road the house is on is so busy you can't walk or bike
-it is VERY buggy in the yard and on the deck, so unfortunately it was hard to enjoy
-the Internet (for TV too) shuts off at 12am

Thanks for your very thoughtful review. We appreciate the positive feedback and wanted to respond to some of the cons.
I just want to say that the internet does NOT turn off at 12 AM. I wish you had called me or texted me with this fact, but the internet is 24/7. Possible that someone turned off a switch by mistake.
Yes, the deck and yard is very buggy in the early evening - dusk period - but not during the day - we love sitting out with the awning open during breakfast and lunch.
This has been a hot summer and yes it is difficult in the upstairs rooms when the temperature outside doesn't drop below 70 degrees at night (which is becoming more common). Maybe it is time to purchase an air conditioner for the upstairs rooms.
We can't do anything about the water system, it comes from our well in the front yard and in these houses with their own septic systems, you have to be willing to run the washing machine and dishwasher once a day only. Even with kids, we never need to run them more than once.
Yes, we definitely do not recommend that you walk or bike on the main road - it's far too busy and there are no sidewalks.
I'm sorry about the construction vehicle, someone just bought the house downstairs and he is doing it up. We didn't know that he was going to be doing construction work on his property while there were renters in our house.
