It was a lovely property to stay at, hidden amongst the rainforest with lots of privacy, yet also close to the Volcanoes National Park. We enjoyed the vegan/vegetarian food options close by as well!
My wife and I stayed here for five nights during our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it. At the end of our stay, we wished we didn't have to leave so soon. All in all, an ideal location for a private, romantic getaway.

I am so glad you and your wife enjoyed your stay at our cottage. Thank you for choosing Volcano Mountain Haven for your honeymoon! Best wishes on your wonderful journey together! Hope to host you again on your anniversaries.
The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was extremely comfortable, clean and quiet. The views of the Ohia trees and ferns outside our windows was beautiful and calming. We hope to visit again!
The setting is beautiful and relaxing, the home is charming and comfortable, and the proximity to the National Park is perfect. It was everything I wanted it to be.

So glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Thank you for taking such good care of our cottage while staying there. We look forward to having you back again.
This was a unique property! Felt like a treehouse in the middle of a rainforest. So cozy to cuddle up by the fire and drink hot tea while looking out at the beautiful trees and flowers! Thank you Candice and Richard for the lovely stay!
We were absolutely delighted with Volcano Haven! The house had so much personality and charm - it felt like a hug the moment we walked through the front door! It was super clean and BRIGHT with so much attention to all the details - not to mention a BIG binder with all kind of information for local attractions and tips for visitors. We happened to be there for 4 days of RAIN and cool weather - so made good use of both fireplaces! It would have been a less successful trip if our accommodations had not been so cozy. Thanks to Candice & Richard for making our time at Volcano Haven so memorable :)
This was a lovely home in a great location. Nicely decorated, with beautiful, peaceful views of the forest. It was like staying in a tree house in a fern forest! Only 10 minutes from Volcanoes National Park, which allowed us to view the Kilauea eruption easily. It was an incredible experience and something we'll remember for a lifetime! We were lucky to be so close to the park when we learned about the eruption. After we left the park, the line of cars waiting to get into the park extended for miles - so we consider ourselves very fortunate. The owners provided great information in binders - information about the home (you'll need to spend some time reading) and recommendations on activities and restaurants. We loved Cafe Ono and the Volcano Garden Arts. Rico's Tacos (food truck in Volcano) also had good food. If you have mobility issues this might not be the best choice for you, since you have to carry your luggage up stairs to the home. We highly recommend staying here!
It was great. Period. Not sure that I can say anything unique that hasn't already been said. There are 4 guest comment books there that rave about the place going back (I think) to 2013. Felt like home. We stayed a month. Hosts were absolutely wonderful. Not a - section of - a wall in the place that doesn't have a window/view to the beautiful lush forest. Better than I expected. Car port is wonderful for loading and unloading. There are stairs to the front door if mobility is a consideration. Two outdoor seating patios. A yard to wander around. Feels like a tree house.

The beautiful cottage surrounded by fern forest
This cottage has a lot of windows.
We can see a beautiful fern forest from there.
There are very big windows in a living room and a bedroom,
the view from there are wonderful in particular.
Sunshine in the morning , fog in the evening , rain at the night....
scenery from windows changes every moment.
It was very beautiful, we took a picture many times.
The cottage is very clean.
Something necessary to the kitchen and a bathroom is provided.
It's possible to go to a volcano national park in about only 5 minutes by car, and we can enjoy from a morning to night.
An owner told us vicinage's information politely, and it was very useful.
When there is a chance, we'd like to stay again!

Thank you for staying at our cottage and sharing with us your photos and video of the cottage. We would love to see you again when you return to the Big Island of Hawaii.
The pictures are accurate - this place really does feel like you're staying in a tree house! While there are neighbors, you cannot see them so you feel secluded and in the middle of the rainforest. It feels like it's just you, the morning birds, the nighttime frogs, and lush green surroundings.
The hosts go above and beyond to ensure you have a good stay. They're super responsive via text if needed. They have equipped the kitchen with everything you need including spices and coffee. They provide a comprehensive binder of information about the home and what is available nearby to do, see, eat, shop. They also provide information on hikes and drives in Volcano National Park, conveniently located a short drive away.
One thing that I did not know before visiting the Big Island is that there is a bit of a problem with theft, everywhere. Signs that warn you to not leave valuables in the car have piles of broken window glass next to them. In busy areas, I never worried, but off the beaten path I made sure to bring my stuff with me. The hosts of this property have provided a security system and a small safe to help you feel more secure.
When staying in the Volcano area, if you plan to cook and prepare your own meals, know that grocery shopping is pretty limited. There are two nearby markets with limited supplies. The nearest big store is a 25 min drive, so plan accordingly.
Overall, we enjoyed this charming cabin surrounded by nature and appreciated the hosts' thoughtfulness!
We had an amazing month-long stay at Volcano Haven. The house was absolutely beautiful. Despite being in a neighborhood, the trees and surrounding rainforest made it seem like we were completely isolated. The little down of Volcano was adorable, and we were only 5 minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park. Candice and Richard thought of everything in the home. We had everything we needed. Not to mention, the bed was extremely comfortable! Thank you so much, Candice and Richard, for such a lovely stay!
This cottage was such an incredible place to call home for a month. The neighborhood is beautiful and friendly while still offering privacy from nearby neighbors in the form of gorgeous foliage. The communication and recommendations of the hosts was an incredible guide for the time I spent on The Big Island. The property is generously spacious both inside the cottage as well the surrounding yard. I enjoyed cooking here and reading near the fireplace on rainy days. Easy to access from the main highway and a perfect home base for your stay. It's even better than the listing can express if you can believe it! If you are seeking retreat, solace, privacy, and/or rest this is a once in a lifetime find. Thank you to Candice and Richard for not only offering a house, but a home.

This cottage up in the trees is lovely and secluded, while being located just minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The owners are very responsive and helpful, and provide lots of little extras, like heated towels and fresh local honey. We loved it there!
We absolutely loved this cottage! We wanted something completely different than the beach feel on the Kona side of the island and this was perfect! We stayed for 3 nights and I wish we had stayed longer. It was so calm and peaceful, it felt like our own little place in the rain forest. The home was clean and had everything we needed. They even have binders with all the info you might need for your stay in Volcano and visiting the Volcano National Park. It was perfect and we'd love to go back again. I'd highly recommend it to all my friends!

Great place amongst the lava tree ferns.
If you are looking for a place away from people yet 30 minutes from hilo and 3 from volcano national park this place is perfect for two people. You will be welcomed by the sound of native birds singing in the forest. The house is spotless and everything is well labeled. Communication was top notch. Candice and Richard went out of their way to make sure were happy. We will be returning at some point and will definately rent this property again.

A beautiful and inspiring writer's retreat
I have stayed in Volcano village many times over the past years, in both homes and picturesque "lodges." Wherever you are in this special place in the world, you can feel its spiritual power ("mana" in Hawaiian), being so near Kilauea crater, the home of "Madame Pele."
That being said, Volcano Mountain Haven, so beautifully tended by Candice and Richard, is by far the most beautifully-situated, peaceful and condusive to creativity (I was there 5 days on a personal writer's retreat) of all the homes I have stayed in over the years. (And would no doubt have been among the most romantic if I had shared that time with a spouse or partner. :). I recommend it enthusiastically and with absolutely no reservation, and will undoubtedly return there again, if Candice and Richard permit :). I should also share that when I was not writing, I enjoyed reading ALL the guest entries in their guestbook over the past 4-5 years, and can attest that there is not a single entry with a critical or "formative" comment or suggestion. It appears that everyone' s expectations for their stay at the Haven were completely met and almost always surpassed. And the themes that appeared over and over again in the guest entries were ones with which I completely agreed:
First, although you are part of a small neighborhood near the village center and just 2-3 miles from the national park entrance, the Haven is completely surrounded by hapu'u tree ferns and blossoming 'ohia trees and no other homes are visible, only greenery and flowers. And the silence is amazing. The songs of the birds wakening in the morning only underscore the peacefulness all around.
When you arrive and enter the Haven (great detailed instructions are provided--nothing is left to guesswork) you are struck by all the thoughtful and welcoming touches left for you by Candice and Richard -- the macadamia chocolates, local coffee (before I arrived, Candice texted, "Would you prefer beans or ground?"!), a jar of rare white honey produced by bees raised by Richard up the Hamakua Coast, the beautiful stones set on windowsills around the home -- each one I'm sure with its own story, and so many practical items anticipating my needs around cooking, hiking, touring around the island, community events etc. I wanted for nothing -- but if there had been anything I needed, I knew Candice would be immediately available to provide guidance.
For my needs, the Haven was ideal in every way.

Perfect Forested Hideaway
Can't say enough great things about our stay here. The home is perfectly appointed with more than we could've used during our stay: kitchen staples, headlamps, ample books on local birds and flowers, and DVDs. My 2 favourite things though were the windows on all sides of the home that made us feel like we were right in the middle of a beautiful forest and the cosy fireplace at night. Relaxing after a day of hiking around Volcano with a fireplace and the views was just delightful.

Amazing accommodation and hosts!
This spot was the highlight of our trip! It's conveniently located minutes away from town and Volcano National Park. The home is extremely private providing 360 degree views of nature and no sign of other dwellings. It was a real treat and the hosts (Candice and Richard) were superb at communicating and providing advice for different activities and things to see that are a little off the beaten trail. There's an excellent book outlining some of their favourite restaurants, locations and sights along with all of the major activities, hikes and things to see in the area. The home is thoughtfully designed and impeccably clean. We'll definitely be back! ~ Jack

We want to offer an elevating, serene, bucolic experience to people who visit the Big Island of Hawaii by sharing our two beautiful cottages, in Volcano and Ahualoa.
We love Volcano. Volcano was our retreat place whenever we needed a break from the hectic life of running our honey business. We love the mountain air and the tranquility in Volcano. Hiking up Mauna Loa is one of our favorite hikes in Hawaii.
After we sold the business, we put our energy in finding a cottage in Volcano so that we could have our own retreat place. Now we are sharing our retreat cottage with our special visitors.
