Lake Michigan Beachhouse On 100 Feet Of Gorgeous Sand

We purchased this home in the fall of 2014 and all the interior has been painted and updated.

-Three king-bed guest rooms, two with ensuite bathrooms.
-One bedroom with two sets of bunk beds.
-Three full baths + outdoor shower.
-All linens, towels, and beach towels supplied.
-Dining table seats eight and kitchen counter seats five more.
-BBQ grill on deck with extra propane tank in shed.
-Two outdoor patio tables for dining al fresco.
-100 ft private beach with private stair access; ~30% of path to beach involves stairs.
-Three decks: one attached to the house with views of the lake, another new deck on the back of the house that is nice for morning coffee, and a sunset deck ten steps lower overlooking the beach and dunes for the best sunsets.
-Kitchen amenities of a year-round home.
-Main floor washer and dryer.
-Games, sand toys, volleyball net, books, DVDs for use.
-Lower level with outdoor access with extra fridge, futon, air mattress, TV, DVD player, and play area.
-Our house does not have A/C. We have several ceiling fans and portable fans, if needed.
-Paved driveway up to front door.
-Three grocery stores within a 15 minute drive; Farmhouse Bistro restaurant a mile out from house on Scenic Drive.
-Great hiking and biking trails, tubing and other outdoor activities including tours blueberry picking, tour of a dairy farm. Several cute towns within an hour+ of Shelby including Pentwater, Ludington, and Saugatuck.
-Cleaning fee of $175 not included in rental rate.
-Saturday to Saturday rental during prime summer months.
-Pets are at the discretion of the owner and would require an additional fee.

Fabulous home, location, and host...PERFECTION!!!

The hosts call it a "slice of heaven" and that is SO true! We loved every minute staying at this incredible home, and stunning location. The home is so well stocked with everything that you could need, and the host is so responsive to any questions. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfy, and have great views. The main rooms are amazing. Lots of fun games and puzzles. The view is outstanding!! Absolute perfection!

Gorgeous views

This property offered breath-taking views from every spot, inside and outside! The house was well-stocked to meet all of our needs and allowed us to simply enjoy the beauty of Lake Michigan. Whether we were hanging out on the deck or taking in the sun from the private beach, our visit was relaxing and perfect. Grateful to have found this spot and hope to return in the future!!

Beautiful home in a beautiful setting

Our family of 5 had a wonderful stay in this little piece of paradise. The home is clean, very well stocked and super comfortable. My parents joined us for 2 days, and we had plenty of space with the 2 master suites and the 2nd living area in the loft. We spent tons of time out on the deck, with multiple spaces for eating, reading and just enjoying the views. The kids loved all the beach equipment. There are so many little bonus features that made our stay so easy - outdoor shower for rinsing off the sand, huge basket of nice beach towels, extra beach goodies in the shed, etc. Communication with the owner was excellent. We couldn’t have had a nicer stay!

Pure Michigan!

We absolutely enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. It is even better than the pictures and description posted. It has an incredible view of Lake Michigan, a beautiful beach access, ample room on the multi-level decks. This home has everything you could possibly need, including beach toys for every age. The beds are very, very comfortable and the inside of the home is as lovely as the outside! I could easily communicate with Laura. All you need to do is bring your books, food, and swimsuits and you will be all set. It was the very best beach rental we have ever enjoyed. Pure Michigan at its finest! We look forward to returning next summer.

Wonderful vacation home

We loved our time here! The three king bed bedrooms plus a bunk room were perfect for our multigenerational family. The house was abundantly stocked with towels, cookware, dishes, blankets, games and puzzles - everything we needed and more. The outdoor decking was a great place to watch the kids play on the beach, look for passing boats, or read a book in the shade. We saw both eagles and hummingbirds while we ate dinner alfresco. While almost all Lake Michigan homes have a fair number of steep steps to get to the beach, the steps at this rental aren’t too bad. They are less steep and not so far to the water. The octogenarians in our group could handle them. And beach here was excellent - wide and sandy with shallow, clean water. We loved using the kayaks, beach chairs, and paddle board. A heads up that we were surprised about the poor cell phone service in the area. At the house we were able to use Wi-Fi and had no trouble but as we travelled away from the house, our cell phones could not get reception until we were 3-4 miles inland. This mostly caused a few troubles in finding driving directions. Still, a fantastic home and location. 100% recommended

RENTER BEWARE!

With so many beautiful properties in Michigan please think long and hard before renting from these owners. What a mistake! Here’s why: No maintenance done on outside of house, 4 people in our party were stung by bees (nest on stairs-we removed with help from neighbor), outside shower had a foot of leaves, patio with no safety rail (hazard for those with young children), and they cheated us out of nearly half of our security deposit with no justification (no receipts, no evidence) and held our funds for over 32 days – past date on contract. We’ve been renting beach houses in this region for 20 years, and obviously won’t be returning to this house. Our family stayed at this house for a week in 2015 and returned in 2016 for a week because we liked the general area. Two weeks after our stay this year we reached out to the owners about our security deposit. The wife (the main contact) wrote back with a nearly incomprehensible email accusing our family of dirtying their beach house. This was the first we had heard anything about this. We were flabbergasted. The owners offered zero evidence whatsoever – except generalities of the alleged “stained carpets” and “filthy towels”. While stunned, we replied in a very professional way. After our detailed response to the initial accusations, the husband texted us separately and revealed the issue: The owners, who live out of state, have had cleaning issues dating back to last year. He said that last year the couple was “totally scammed by cleaning staff that didn’t do their job. In fact they really never cleaned at all. The house progressively getting dirty as the weeks (in 2015) rolled onward.” He also said they rely on their next door neighbor who they trust 100% and that he had “nothing but good things to say about you guys.” Turns out the owners hired a new cleaning woman this year and we were the first guests of the year. The cleaning woman who is cleaning a large beach house by herself – wasn’t able to finish her duties before the next renters showed up. Her main issue was the amount of dirty laundry – laundry that was not our responsibility to clean. The owners sent us back just a little over half of our deposit with a note that said that the money they cheated us out of was used for “carpet/upholstery cleaning” and “additional cleaning fee”. Well, we were the ones who got taken to the cleaners. We hope that doesn’t happen to you. I would not recommend staying here but if you do please protect yourselves.

Beautiful place

Photos could not show how spacious the living areas of this house seemed. Very well-equipped. Lots of hanging out space on the deck with gorgeous views of Lake Michigan. We all had a wonderful stay.

Awesome Vacation!

Beautiful home with views that are beyond your imagination! This was a great choice for us, having a family 50th wedding anniversary gathering here, what memories we'll have of this year. Sunsets which were amazing, sitting outside on the patio listening to the Lake Michigan swells with a nice breeze and a cup of coffee every morning, unforgettable! If you decide to come here you won't be disappointed, all was clean and taken care of, no problems at all with the owners who went out of their way to be helpful. Surrounding areas had lots of farm markets, orchards, a petting zoo, wasn't hard to find a place for dinner when we didn't want to cook. I would definitely recommend this and hope to be back myself someday!!

We had a great stay! The house was clean, current and updated. All of the amenities you need. The sunsets can't be beat - lots of great photo ops. Lots of places to sit outside or in. The home owners were great to work with prior to our trip and answered all of our questions and provided lots of suggestions for local area attractions. Lewis Petting Zoo is a short drive away and the kids love it! Great location without being right in the middle of a busy beach town. Can't wait to come back!

Stunning views and great amenities

We rented this beautifully appointed home with our parents and college-age sons. The views of the beach from the dining room/family room and upstairs loft are amazing! We really enjoyed long walks on the beach and sitting on the wraparound deck (lots of places to sit) for meals or reading. All in all this was a lovely rental and great vacation. We hope to come back in the future!

Best beach in the area!

Wonderful house to rent for a family or group! Great beach, beautiful sunsets, local attractions. Owners were very gracious. We had a wonderful time and will definitely visit again! Don't forget to rent tubes at Stony Lake and take a ride down the channel to Lake Michigan. Visit the Sand Dunes. Blueberry picking .. etc. Memories to last a lifetime.

Best beach in the area!

Sunsets are highlight after a long day at the beach. The house is great for a family or group. Great local attractions. Rent tubes and ride down the channel to Lake Michigan from Stony Lake. Definitely will stay again!

Our family lives in Houston, Texas but I was born and raised in Michigan and summered every year for the first 10 on Lake Michigan just a mile south from this property. We rented for seven years and then stumbled on this lovely home and magnificent beach, and knew we wanted to own a small piece of this heavenly land. My husband's Norwegian heritage inspired the name of the property: Velkommen til Valhalla which translates to "Welcome to Heaven."

Why they chose this property

Shelby claims some of the best beaches on Lake Michigan, and when you arrive you will understand why people return year after year. Our 100 feet of private white, soft beach is equally as wide as it is long so it is ideal for lounging, building an entire village out of sand, playing frisbee or getting a game of volleyball going. The beaches stretches for miles in both directions so is ideal for long walks.
