We had a great stay! The house was very clean, comfy, and well-equipped. The only downside was being so far removed from everything, but then again, we also enjoyed the peace and solitude and found our way around pretty easily.
We enjoyed our stay here. We need a location that could comfortably sleep 8 people while also allowing us to move about and entertain. This property met our needs and we'd definitely consider staying here again.
Our daughter was graduating from Southern Illinois University and we had a bunch of family coming from all over to attend. We had a lot of different needs in our group and this property made it all work! Steve was great!
We enjoyed our stay here! It was nice and quiet with a big backyard, bird’s singing, and mature trees. The house was super clean and the kitchen very well stocked. We would 100% recommend this place!
This house was centrally located for us to visit a plethora of natural sites in the western/central portion of the Shawnee National Forest. It was wonderful coming home from long days of hiking to a fully stocked kitchen to make or heat our dinners, and to relax comfortably for the evening. The countryside setting was perfect for us to feel right at home.
The house was everything we wanted. Great location. Enough room! Homey and nice cause we had a 1 month. 1st time using and we will definitely use these services again!!
It was all great, the host was very informative/helpful, the house was prepared ready wonderfully, the views (even though it was storming) were great. It was peaceful and relaxing. If i had any complaint at all, it would only be the chef knife needs sharpened. Otherwise everything was spectacular, and easy.

Great Home Close to EVERYTHING!
We really enjoyed Tool Shed Cabin! Two families shared with plenty of space for two couples, four kids and a teenager! House was comfortable, had all of the amenities you would expect. Plenty of hot water for showers, comfy beds, spacious rooms and really close to the wine trail and Giant City, and the attractions/hiking etc! You won’t be disappointed. I also want to point out that is was super clean!

Thanks so much for the review. I am glad your stay was great and hope to have your group again someday.
It was functional. The only thing was the clarification about the listing would be to let other people know that the second bathroom is down stairs and not on the main level with the bedrooms.
This property was excellent for our stay. Steve was always prompt to respond when I had questions. Had dvds, cds, vhs tapes and more nostalgia. The beds were very comfortable (and I’m super picky) and the towels were soft. A morning dove made her nest in the ballasts right next to the back door. And when it rained, the tin roof over the porch sounded amazing! My only complaint was that we couldn’t stay longer.

Great time with family
The entire weekend my family spent was nice and amazing. Very quiet and the home was equipped with everything we needed. Our first time ever renting, the owner was very nice and made sure we got in safe and had no issues. He was available anytime and everytime. We made a nice bonfire on our second night and it was the best ever. Time away from the city life to just sit by the fire and watch the stars. The home is very spacious and has that home away from home country feel. So many movies, we had a family movie night. Went out on the town and just enjoyed our surroundings. We will definitely be back soon.

I am so glad that you guys had a great time. Also glad that the collection of DVDs that I left went to good use! I would love to have your group back again someday.
The place was great, clean, kitchen stocked with everything we needed to cook. The host was nice and responsive. We would definitely come back for another stay.
Loved this property. Steve was a great host. We accidentally left something there and contacted Steve. He was going to be in the St. Louis area the following day and went out of his way to drop the item off to us. The property was immaculate and had everything we needed for the 5 nights we were there. Will definitely stay there again when we are in the area.
We came for a family summer getaway with our children ranging 12 to 6 months and had a fantastic time. The house was roomy and well equipped and the owner was very responsive to our concerns. It has a large deck overlooking fields and hills, and a very large yard(with a firepit; campfire smores etc.) with plenty of room for the kids to run and play. A added perk(which we didn't notice on the listing) was the basement room with a couch and foozeball table which was a great place for the kids to play. There is a additional cabin on the property which was empty most of our stay. We had a amazing, fun and relaxing family vacation! Charming, very comfortable house in quiet scenic location. Definitely recommended.

About the host
Hosted by Steve Young
I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.
I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites.
As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more.
I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home.
My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.
June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.
Why they chose this property
This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. The property also has a guesthouse that I am in the process of refurbishing.
Once the guesthouse is refurbished the property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.
The proximity toe wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.
