Secluded Wooded Retreat 6- BR, W/Pond, Hot Tub, Sleeps 12+!!

As you drive down our wooded lane you leave behind your hectic daily life and enter your own private refuge.

The Main House has 4 BRs and 3.5 baths. The main floor has open floor plan w/ a gourmet kitchen, a 6-seat island, dining room table for 10, and a naturally lighted sitting room with an old fashioned wood stove. The main floor MBR contains a king bed, private bath w/large two head shower, and a private balcony. Off the dining area is another balcony and a covered/screened-in porch. The kitchen has a stove and gas grill with all the utensils needed to prepare a feast for family and friends.

The lower level offers 3 spacious BRs w/ queen beds w/built-in bookcases, 2 full baths and walk out access to a large backyard. The centrally located media room contains a large TV and lots of comfortable seating.

The Coach House has 2 queen sized BRs and 1 full bath. A game area with pool, foosball, poker, and air hockey tables. Also a video seating area.

A brick walkway leads to a private pond, deck/pier w/arbor, hot tub and lots of outdoor furniture to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.

Renters of Galena Territory homes have access to a Marina(to fish or rent boats, tennis courts), Owner's Club(fitness room, basketball court, new indoor/outdoor pool), Golf Courses(63-holes & driving range), Winter Sports(ice skating, sledding, cross country skiing), Shennadoah Riding Center(trail rides & lessons).

Historic Galena, a 15-min. drive, offers a return to the 1850's with museums, restored Main Street containing antique/boutique shops, restaurants and nightly entertainment.

We enjoyed the relaxing and clean environment. The house and rooms over the garage provided plenty of space for our big family to get together, and it was nice that every adult had their own room with a bed. However, the listing photos are out of date and there is a lot more wear and tear to some of the outdoor features. So many of the screens were full of holes, the decks have some rot which made them feel unsafe, woodpeckers were actively pulling out insulation from the many holes in the wood siding, many indoor lights simply did not work, older appliances were difficult and noisy to use, the lid to the hot tub no longer has the metal bar to assist with opening and closing and had many holes which led to the lid becoming waterlogged after it rained. Make sure to bring extra towels and bedding as others have mentioned.

The house was in a beautiful peaceful area. Clean and warm inside. There was plenty of room for us to have our own space and get together for meals and games. I would highly recommend renting this house and exploring the area!

We had a great time. The house had a good number of bedrooms and bathrooms, especially if you include the coach house. It also has a good kitchen/dining room/screened in porch area for eating, games, and hanging out. There were also many couch beds!

Great spot

Overall, a great place to get a group of people together. There were 10 in our group and we were able to relax, enjoy the screened porch, firepit and hot tub and cook some wonderful meals together.

The carriage house offers a special break from adults to those younger. It was perfect for the young adult cousins gathering, leaving the main house for the older adults.The layout was perfect, the kitchen amazingly stocked, the media room well used. The hot tub was a hit and the owner’s passes a real value.Galena offers a great deal of activities.As for the house, the bare basics are supplied. We had to buy paper towels after 24 hours. A run to the store in the same 24 for basic hygiene needs were needed.The microwave went out on the last day but we didn’t even reach out to the owners to solve. They responded quickly enough for questions but we never felt warmth and welcomed. The overwhelming rustic charm design needs dusting but is unique and prompts discovery.Mattresses are not comfortable and linen is subpar. The master had standard cases on king pillows and the 90’s spreads could use a good cleaning.Showers were wonderful and check out is without direction other than hauling trash to a site. We carried ours out with us.It sleeps 12 as marketed but the refrigerator is small-not large enough alone for that many people.It promotes a pond but as they hadn’t had rain for a time, it wasn’t dredged or aerated so not charming or useable. I had been told by the owners that it wasn’t useable.If the weather had cooperated even a little we would have used the fire pit, but just the gas grill got tested very successfully. The screened in porch was great.

Girl's 50th Birthday Celebration--quiet and relaxing

The property was wonderful. Very quiet...birds and wildlife. Star gazing and shooting stars were tremendous. Great location to relax and visit, and close enough to town to enjoy what the community and surrounding area provide for recreation.

Cozy and comfortable retreat

We rented this property for a skiing trip to Chestnut Resort in mid-February. It's an amazing place—comfortable, cozy, and spacious enough for 13 people across 4 families, with ample kitchen equipment. The playful character and personality of the owner really shine through.

Extended Family Gathering

Property was clean and had plenty of space for our family to gather. Access to Galena and Galena territory amenities was excellent. Plenty in the area for our multi age family, so having a central spot for staging and laughing was important. Deck and campfire is a great amenity to bring the family spirit together.

About eight years ago friends of ours loaned us their house for a couple of days while the well was being repaired at our home. Also at this time we were looking for a place to build a therapeutic riding center for special needs individuals. We fell in love with the Galena/Jo Daviess County experience and decided this would be the place where we would build the center. In 2008 our dream was realized and the center was opened. It is called 'Area of Dreams' and is located on Blackjack Road near Chestnut Mountain Ski Area. See links for further information.

Why they chose this property

The center relies 100% on volunteer help. At the time we lived 3-hours away and most of the volunteers were from the same area. The center operates on weekends, so we needed a facility to house the volunteers who came on weekends. Luckily we found this unique property that fit these needs.

What makes this property unique

This is a very secluded/private property that makes people feel they are deep in the north woods even tho civilization is just over the next hill or on the other side of the trees. As people enter the house they immediately begin to relax due to inviting and warm atmosphere of the house. Next they cannot wait to explore the many unique and fascinating features of the property. The tin ceiling, wood stove, hot tub and pier, pond, media and game rooms, and interesting decorative items. The open floor plan offers a wonderful place for family and friends to enjoy each others fellowship.
