About this property

Don't Just Visit History...Stay There!©

This high-end rental home in Gettysburg has earned its 5-Star Customer Rating by our valued guests since we opened our doors just a little over 8 years ago as carried on our multiple rental hosting companies.

Downtown Civil War Home ~~~~ 2 Blocks From Lincoln Square, this historic vacation getaway is tailored for discriminating guests who desire an authentic Gettysburg experience, while catering to all your 21st-century comforts allowing you and your friends/family to enjoy exclusive and private occupancy of the entire house.

Our circa 1839 York Street Manor stood as a brick sentinel in the path of retreating Union soldiers on July 1, 1863. Confederate troops camped in these very yards while Confederate General Ewell planned his repeated strategy to take Culp’s Hill (that house only several houses east of here).

The York Street Manor, owned by Cecilia Codori (of the prominent Codori’s of Gettysburg), was where Cecilia and her husband Joseph called home from 1850 to 1865. In 1865, the house’s proud new owner was William F. Baker, Company E of the 87th Pennsylvania Volunteers. It is awesome to think an actual Civil War soldier owned and lived in this house

After Baker's ownership, in 1870, title to the home transferred to another famous family from Gettysburg, John and Catherine Culp, with the road to Culp’s Hill (East Confederate Avenue) just two blocks south of the house.

Memoirs of a 16 year old girl who lived across the street (Liberty Hollinger) recalled she and her father yelling at the Confederate soldiers looting the unoccupied homes across from her's, and how General Robert E. Lee himself and his command paused their horses in front of these houses, surveying their strength. A temporary Confederate grave was located in the backyard of Cecilia and Joseph’s property.

Nestled only two blocks from the heart of downtown Gettysburg’s Lincoln Square, enjoy the antebellum homes along York Street as you leisurely stroll to restaurants, pubs, eateries, retail shoppes and antique stores, including the nostalgic Majestic movie theater.

Our Accommodations:

Each of our three bedrooms has its own private on-suite bath, and the house provides you with not one, but two master suites.

Master Suite 1: The first floor Lincoln Master Bedroom boasts a king size memory foam bed fit for a Presidential stay. Flanking the bedroom is the master bath, extending the length of the room, with lavish amenities which compliment the radiant heated bathroom floor to keep you cozy in cooler seasons.

Master Suite 2: The spacious 2nd floor Codori Master Suite offers you a queen size mattress, full parlor/sitting room and includes a separate living room and a dressing room attached to your spacious en-suite private bath. Fronting York Street, you can look down and almost see General Lee’s army proceeding past.

Bedroom 3: The John Culp room bears its namesake from an owner of the house and of the famous Culp family of Gettysburg. Take a step back in time and relax in your queen size bed and on-suite private bath with marble floor that transports you to days of old, with the original Civil War exposed brick wall set against a refinished cast iron claw foot bathtub and shower.

Antiquity meets modernity in each bedroom which is equipped with wall-mounted flat screen televisions, digital clocks equipped with usb ports (no more charging your phone from across the room) with soft towels and clean bedding upon arrival. An extra pillow top auto-inflate air bed for 7th guest in Codori parlor for a small additional charge.

Relax on the 2nd floor screened in porch, or enjoy your favorite drink on the back yard porch. Bring your own wine and keep it that perfect temperature in our wine chiller located in the separate media room (complete with 46” TV and DVD player to watch your favorite Civil War movies), or treat yourselves to a complementary bottle in the chiller. You can be chef for the day and prepare dinner in our modern kitchen, complete with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, or treat yourself to grilling your favorite barbecue in the backyard (seasonal).

Off-street parking is extremely convenient in the three bay garage which sets on the same location of the original carriage barn along Race Horse Alley.

We want you to enjoy your stay at the Historic York Street Manor every time you visit Gettysburg.

We enjoyed all the effort and time spent to provide the unique and special touches that make the Manor a very special place to enjoy family and friends!

Respectfully, Frank & Donna

Daughter's College Graduation
We stayed at the York Street Manor with our family from out of town to attend our daughter's college graduation. The location is walking distance to downtown Gettysburg and all of the events we attended. It was so much nicer than a hotel because we had wonderful common spaces to gather and visit with family both inside and out. The back porch was perfect for our morning coffee! The house has everything you need, it was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Frank even left two "Congrats Graduate" balloons for our daughter.

So much history!
If you’re looking for an historical experience, this is the place to stay! My husband and I, along with our teenage daughters, thoroughly enjoyed our stay over President’s Day Weekend. This house is within walking distance to all of the downtown shops, restaurants, and the college. Frank, the owner, is extremely kind, pleasant and reachable if you need him. I would definitely stay here again!

Remberance Ball
Gettysburg has a temperance ball, close to the anniversary of the Gettysburg address given by Abraham Lincoln. Everyone wears period outfits (Ball Gowns and suits, or uniforms for the men). Dinner and Dance (Period dances) with lessons. Great Time!

What makes this property unique

Pictured in a famous book of original photographs taken after the battle from a viewpoint on Cemetery Hill, this house can be seen as it stood during the cannon explosions and rifle fire during the 3-day battle. Over this terrain, the Louisiana Tigers pursued Federal Troops through town and eventually to Cemetery Hill. As Costner's men retreated, many Union soldiers hid in these homes to avoid capture.

Pictured in "Historic Architecture of Adams County Pennsylvania, Book 2 by James J. Fritz in a 4-page layout and Honorable Mention. Also in an historical fiction work entitle "Civil War Time Travel."
