Be our guest in a beautiful piece of American history! Built in 1790, this log home exemplifies a page from our history books with original wood floors, walls and beams. Located just 5 minutes walk from downtown, Lincoln Square, the home was once owned by Thaddeus Stevens and sits with a front seat view of where the Confederates occupied West Middle Street during the Battle of Gettysburg. The home, while keeping it's historic character, also contains modern conveniences (central air conditioning, recessed lighting, fully updated kitchen and baths, etc.). The Thaddeus Steven's house has 3 cozy bedrooms (upstairs, 2queen, 1full) and 1 & 1/2 bathrooms. Perfect for a couple, family or group of friends! Join us in this gorgeous historical home as you explore Gettysburg! **Please keep in mind the home was built in a time, when people were smaller. Ceilings and doorways are low. The floors slant and creak. The closet space is limited. And the home may not be functional for people with certain physical mobility issues. Appreciate where you are--transported to a special time--imagine yourself in another era! Enjoy Gettysburg!

Everything was as described, and the beds we're really comfortable, and the kitchen well equipped. Check in and out was easy. Great location, right in the heart of things.
This historical home was so lovely to stay in to go along with our History vacation. It was nice to be within walking distance to several places to eat, drink, have coffee and shop. Sarah responded quickly with any questions I had. Thank you for allowing guests to stay in your home to soak up that era.
My family and I loved the home. It's the perfect mix of experiencing the historical period but also with modern comforts. The location was within easy walking distance to anywhere in Gettysburg.
The property provides a rare and delightful experience. The opportunity to enjoy many modern conveniences within a home of such age was a highlight of our visit to Gettysburg.
My friend & I loved staying at the Thaddeus Stevens House. The house was well stocked and very cozy. The location is perfect, within walking distance to the shops and restaurants.
What an awesome house. Very old historic home. It was a beautiful place to stay. Great parking and nice private back yard. You will be in walking distant of everything. We brought our electric bikes and rode all through the .battlefields.

The Thaddeus Log Home is a delightful historical residence ideally situated just a short walk from downtown Gettysburg. Unfortunately, the cleanliness left much to be desired, as we encountered cobwebs throughout the house, particularly under the furniture, which was also home to spiders. The upstairs bathroom countertop appeared worn and unstable, while the walls throughout the home showed signs of damage and could benefit from some care. Both bathrooms were missing a hand towel bar as well as a hand towel. Each of the three upstairs bedrooms featured queen beds that were quite hard and uncomfortable, despite the presence of mattress toppers. We also discovered several dishes that needed to be washed before use, including the coffee pot. Additionally, the shag rugs in most rooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages. I did bring some of these concerns to the attention of our property contact, who offered an apology, but I felt it was important to share this review to help future guests prepare for their stay.
We came to experience Gettysburg and stay in this historic residence in the middle of town was perfect. Thaddeus Stevens was a prominent figure in the area and we were delighted to be a guest in the house.
We loved the charm and location of the house. The tour bus that we took went by the house and the tour guide even said that this house was one of his favorites in town. Also, Sarah answered us back everytime. would
Wonderful historic building close to downtown Gettysburg.
Stairs to second floor difficult to navigate for an older person. Hospitality by owner was excellent. Giving up a few amenities to be in such a historic setting was well worth it!
Great and accurate description on the Internet. Great location walking distance to everything. I would only recommend that it has a dehumidifier as it was very humid and damp in there.
We think Thaddeus Stevens himself would have loved this log house. We certainly did during our 3 day stay. Cozy and well decorated. A well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Close to downtown and just steps away to a local grocery. The owner, Sarah, is truly exceptional! Helped us in so many ways including making sure our kitchen skillet was returned to us after we accidentally left it in a cupboard. Hats off to Sarah, and a great little getaway!
Our (five “40 somethings”) trip has fabulous! Our stay at the house was perfect for our “girls getaway”, plenty of space inside and outside. We loved sitting outside in the backyard as it was very shaded, great patio set and not noisy.
The location of the home was our very favorite part. We could walk everywhere even to the battlefields in about 20 minutes.
Our contact with the host was very easy and they chose to be very available to us if we were in need of any assistance.
We all loved our stay and look forward to another visit soon!
It was a great mini vacation. Between the history of the house and the city we had a great experience.
Everything was clean and within walking distance of the square.
We also enjoyed searching for the dollar bills that previous guests hidden (though we only found 3).
My only suggestion would be to have either room darkening blinds or curtains in the bedrooms. Once the sun came up it was difficult to sleep, and being on vacation, sunrise came way to early.
Growing up in the Gettysburg area, I developed a love of history not only for the Civil War, but among other sites across the U.S. Our friends and my husband and I visited Gettysburg during the month of April, and loved every minute of it! The Thaddeus Steven’s house was a gem! The house was comfortable and we appreciated the historic ambiance that Sarah and John created for their guests. So nice to be able to walk pretty much everywhere uptown and down Baltimore Street and Steinwehr Ave. Visited some museums that had recently opened that we had never been too. All well done! Might we come back again and stay in this house? Yes!
I found this house on VRBO and after much research, I knew this was the place to stay! The 3 bedroom house was perfect for my husband, 2 boys, and mother-in-law. We are huge fans of everything paranormal, so we knew we had to bring our EVP recorder! The first night we didn’t catch anything. However, the second night, I asked if anyone had died here. And we caught an evp answering “No.” clear as day! He must be super shy and friendly because that was all we caught, and we didn’t feel anything negative in the house.
The house was stocked with everything we needed, from coffee creamer cups to pitchers! Beds were super comfortable and there were plenty of bath towels. The house is walkable to everything! We definitely recommend the ghost tours and the Seminary Ridge. Only thing we were bummed about was that Little Round Top is inaccessible till summer. But that just gives us another reason to visit next year!
