Haliburton Lakefront Sleeps 8 + 7 Boats Included + 2 Swim Rafts & 2 King Beds
The front of the cottage is a 38-foot screened-in verandah, facing west, over-looking the lake. It is a very comfortable spot to sit and enjoy the view of the lake or sunset; Choose to sit in one of our cedar muskoka chairs, our old fashioned swing, or on our wicker sectional. There is a hummingbird feeder just outside the screen which is visited often by birds and the occasional raccoon. Through the verandah doors, you will enter our family room/common area with reclining sofas, a stone floor to ceiling fireplace and a 48" tv. There is satellite Tv, roku, wifi, dvd plus movies, and sound bar. The common area also has two dining tables for all to sit around and eat or play games. The kitchen includes a refrigerator/freezer (also another full size one on the verandah), a stove, microwave, coffemaker, 4-slice toaster, blender, Keurig, dishwasher, water cooler and all dinnerware, pots/pans, bakeware you will need. The second bedroom is a smaller room off of the tv area with a queen size bed and a tv. The third bedroom also has a king size bed and a tv. The fourth bedroom is what we would consider the kids room, with two bunks beds. The first bunkbed has two single beds and the second bunkbed has two double beds. The main bathroom is between bedroom 3 and 4, and consists of a toilet, sink and full size bathtub/shower facility. The king beds only include sheets, but blankets and pillows are provided for all. There is a firepit (firewood included), picnic table, benches and a large tree hammock all ready for your enjoyment. The playground located on the opposite side of the cottage to the lakefront, is the small child play area with a slide and swing. We also have a TyeDee Steel Bin outside for your garbage, to keep animals (including raccoons, bears, etc) away.

This property was well-equipped with lots of games and water activities for all 6 of my grandchildren to enjoy. They loved the water slide, kayak and paddleboat in particular and being able to walk into the water from shore was great.
The cottage is rustic but comfortable.
The rock steps going down to the water are challenging though.
Overall a wonderful family vacation.
Rustic, good beds, nice enclosed porch in good weather, great property manager, beach area for kids, dock for big boy toys, play area with swing and slide. Found a good fishing area for kids. Path to dock and beach can be a challenge (I wear glasses with bifocals). Overall good place for large family with kids.
Beautiful, charming cottage. Great for families with so many things available to enjoy, from board games to boats! The cottage is very well maintained and has everything you would need in the kitchen including the second fridge out in the veranda. The beds were comfortable with fans in every room. We brought our folding chairs but didn't use them because they have lots of seating available. The caretakers of the cottage were very kind and did a great job getting it ready for us. Laurie and Dave were easy to connect with when needed. We would be happy to return next year!
A nice place to stay. Space was more than adequate for each room and beds were comfortable. Weather was great, albeit very hot, but the fans in the bedrooms helped a lot. Cottage was decently clean, tidy, and extremely well stocked with kitchen supplies, games, etc. The dishwasher was a godsend with 7 people making so many dirty dishes. In terms of cost, it is reasonably priced for the current rental market, especially given the number of people it can accommodate. Only drawback for me was the very steep terrain to get down to the lake, not suitable for anyone who is a falls risk or has mobility issues. Also, there was no cupboard to put any pantry supplies (non-perishable foods), so we had to leave it on the counter which decreased the limited counter space further. The only other issue, which had nothing to do with the cottage itself, was that everyone who swam in the lake complained of severe itching afterwards. Obviously a problem with the lake water as it consistently happened each time people swam. Overall, a nice rental for larger groups.

Hi Maureen!
We are so happy you enjoyed our cottage, had some good sleep and had fun with your family playing board games!
We are really sorry to hear that swimmers itch was an issue during your visit. It can sometimes pop up in natural lakes at various times during the summer and we understand how frustrating it can be. Unfortunately this is the case in most lakes when the weather is consistently hot and without rain to stir it up.
It was a pleasure hosting you and we’d love to welcome you back anytime!
Safe travels and all the best to you!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this quintessential Ontario lakefront cottage for our annual family vacation including the dogs.
The cottage is relatively private from the neighbors. The lake was not too busy and the location was good for supplies (the bakery in Carnarvon) and water.
We very much enjoyed the screened in porch (almost all meals), open deck (BBQ & drinks), the dock, swimming area and boats.
The beds were some of the best cottage beds we have encountered.
However, cleanliness of the kitchen and bathroom was an issue. We arrived late in the day and when starting dinner discovered that plates were not clean - there was residual food on some. When we got the draining board and dish rack out we discovered that both, particularly the rack, were grungy. Everything was now going in the dishwasher. The cutlery also needed a wash and particularly the cutlery tray which had crumbs and other bits. It all took two dishwasher loads. Very disappointing to always have to inspect every pot and utensil before use.
And then there was the bathroom. It didn't take much to see the brown streaks on the side of the toilet tank by the flush handle. Thank goodness we had a container of pandemic antiseptic wipes.
We have two non-shedding poodles but found we swept up a lot of hairs from other dogs when cleaning up to leave.
The slope from cottage to lake was steeper than expected from the photos and children will need close supervision. The swimming was great for kids & adults.
Laurie was really good at communicating the information and answering our questions before and during the trip.
Easy arrival.
The cottage was well equipped inside with small appliances. Outside had kayaks, canoe and paddleboat like described on the ad.
Expect lots of uneven stairs going down to the lake. It might be an issue with small kids and people will mobility issues. At night we needed to bring flashlights otherwise it was pretty tricky to get to the dock.
We stayed the first 2 weeks of August. With no air conditioning at night it was very very hot even while using all the fans that were there.
Be prepare for squirrel nuts harvesting season! They dropped the nuts on the uninsulated tin roof. It was insane the noise night and day!
Overall very nice trip though. Great location, close to hiking and atv trails, The Boshkung brewery 15 min away by walking. Very warm lake for swimming and great fishing too!
Loved the location, the beach was perfect as we had a walkout and dock. Lake was clean and the we spent lots of time swimming and sitting on the dock! The cottage space worked well for all of us.
Very clean, comfortable beds, everything…absolutely everything… you need in the kitchen. Nimble feet needed to navigate the steep stone ‘steps’ down to the waterfront. Needs a ladder on the dock to get in the water.
Had a week I’m this cottage. The place was very clean. The area was very quiet. Things for kids and adults to do. The fuse blew while we were there. The owner was notified and responded promptly to fix the situation.
Cottage had everything we needed to enjoy our summer holiday. Lots of toys, watercraft and the waterfront was great. Laurie was available if we needed anything, but we didn’t actually need to call her. There was lots of room for everyone to feel comfortable. Thanks Laurie for a fun, relaxing vacation.

So happy you enjoyed your vacation with your family Liz! Nothing is more important. Thanks for your kind words and hope you enjoy the rest of you summer! 😎
This is a lovely cottage and the lake is the clearest and cleanest lake with shallow and gradual entry making it ideal and safe for any age group. Because my husband and myself are seniors we did find the rocky descent to the lake a challenge and a bit treacherous in places though we were able to manage. All in all it was a great week.
Great location with lovely sunset vIews. We enjoyed the screened in porch and the dock, boats and slide.

Fantastic
This property was incredible! It checked off all of our boxes, and even the boxes we didn't anticipate. I would definitely recommend this property to others, and I would stay there again next time I'm in the area.
Our family had a lovely stay in this cottage. Owner was extremely responsive and very helpful with any questions. The location is beautiful and very relaxing. We had four adults and two children comfortably enjoying this house. I would definitely recommend if you were looking for someplace to stay and if given the opportunity, we would come back.

About the host
Hosted by Laurie
My grandparents bought the land in 1969 after renting a cottage for many years on Gull Lake. The cottage was completed in 1970. It was their dream to own a place where their family could all spend holidays and family time together and reconnect. My grandparents had two children (my aunt and my dad) and my aunt and dad each had two children, so the ten of us would spend every long weekend at the cottage, and would share time the rest of the summer, and even sometimes in the winter. Spending holidays and family time together connected us, and gave us so many great memories that we will cherish forever.
Why they chose this property
My grandparents picked this lot because they imagined sitting on their verandah each evening and watching the sun set together. As in much of Haliburton, there is a lot of natural rock on the land the cottage is built on, yet the swimming area is a sand bottom which is comfortable on the feet which was a must for my grandmother. She did not want to swim anywhere there was seaweed!
What makes this property unique
Our cottage has a lot of family history for us that we greatly cherish but wish to share. The swing on the verandah was my great-grandmother's swing that she had on her front porch when my grandma was a little girl. There are a few wooden board games in the closet that my grandfather made with his own hands and we still enjoy. My grandfather's snowshoes that he used to use to use in winters at the cottage, are on the wall in one of the bedrooms. When we were kids, my cousins, brother and I, made a fort in the woods, and years later when my kids were around the same age, they made a fort in the exact same location with their cousins. It is a history and memories that we will cherish forever and hope our guests make their own memories at Reid cottage and will return.
