About this property

Pet-Friendly Station at Firmstone Manor

Originally built in the 1930s as a roadside service station, this fully renovated two-story cottage now offers all the modern conveniences while keeping a touch of its early American road-trip character. Set beside the historic 1873 Firmstone Manor on 13 acres of rolling Alleghany County countryside, The Station is a comfortable, private retreat with mountain views, quiet grounds to wander, and easy access to everything that makes this corner of Virginia special.

Inside, the cottage spans two levels with two bedrooms (one king, one queen), a bathroom with a tiled walk-in shower, and a spacious family room with a dining table. The full kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and Keurig coffee maker — so your first cup is ready before the rest of the world wakes up. Central A/C, heat, and high-speed secure internet keep things comfortable year-round, and 4K streaming TVs in each bedroom and the family room work with your Roku guest account. We also welcome one well-behaved dog with a small additional fee — bring the whole family along.

Our location is something special: we sit almost exactly halfway between Clifton Forge, Lexington, and Bath County, which means you can base yourself somewhere peaceful and be at a vineyard, a national forest trailhead, or the historic Warm Springs Pools in under 30 minutes. Firmstone Manor itself, one of the largest surviving Victorian homes in Alleghany County, sits on the property as part of an ongoing restoration of the estate.

Beautiful place to stay!

We only stayed for one night but man do i wish we could’ve stayed longer!! Its was so beautiful and just put together so well. The home was so clean and the attention to details were beyond us! The little additions that were left for us were the cherry on top! I could NEVER recommend staying here enough!

Great Attention to Detail! Love the Area!

This was probably one, if not the cleanest VRBO we have ever been in. The attention to detail was remarkable. Communication was stellar and we certainly enjoyed our stay. Can't wait to be back in the area and stay here again. Thanks for everything.

Firmstone Manor You should go!

The room has been decorated fabulously (thanks Michael!). All of the extra touches really made us feel welcome. Fresh blueberry muffins and fresh flowers were a great touch. And dog friendly! We will definitely be back!

If you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet, nice, beautiful stay this is your place!! We’ve stayed here a couple times and every single time it feels like we never left home! A great location, friendly neighbors, room for the dog & kids to play out back. Just 10/10 an amazing stay! The history of the manor is also very fascinating! We stayed with our infant, toddler & dog and it was spacious enough for all of us & we were so cozy and comfy the whole time! Truly not one complaint about the station @ Firmstone manor!

Spot-on

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the place. It’s very comfortable and accessible, with spot-on decor. We’ve been traveling for the holidays and out of all the places we’ve stayed, this one was our favorite. We’ll definitely be back.

The Station was a great fit for our small family. We loved the fun and cheerful decor, and our kids REALLY loved the local grape juice that Brian provided as a welcome treat. The house manual made it easy for us to connect to the WiFi and understand how to use the mini-splits. The beds were comfortable, as was the living room furniture. I needed a couple of kitchen items and Brian responded right away.We hope to stay here again next time we're in the area!

I cannot say enough about Brian and Michael as host. The station is immaculately decorated with comfortable beds and a cozy vibe. It had everything we needed and more. The fresh flowers and local treats were a welcome surprise. We had a couple of incidents that we had to inform our host about from locking kepads to damaging the sheetrock in one spot. Brian and Michael were so forgiving and made sure we didn’t miss a beat of or trip, or stress over a thing. I’d give them a 20 if I could. Can’t wait to return!
So much charm! The art was wonderful!

We arrived at The Station at Firmstone Manor tired and in the middle of a cross-country move. It was pouring outside and we were exhausted. To say that this perfect, cozy and pristine spot was a little piece of paradise would be an understatement. The Station is beautiful, clean and comfortable. They have thought of everything! Thank you for the extra special touches, from the fresh flowers to the craft beer and yummy, homemade cookies. We'll be back.

About the host

Hosted by Brian Deacon

Host profile image
Firmstone Manor was purchased by Brian Deacon and Michael Carland in the fall of 2018. The property was in extremely bad shape. The property was overgrown with vines and brush that covered all of the buildings and the roofs on all the cottages, carriage house, kitchen house, and main manor were leaking.

Brian and Michael have been painstakingly restoring the main manor, which is over 10,000 sq/ft, and in 2022 started the renovation on the cottages which will be used as vacation rentals for guests visiting Clifton Forge, Lexington, and the surrounding area. When completed there will be 9 different vacation rental cottages.

The Inn at Firmstone Manor is the perfect retreat for those seeking peace and tranquility. Surrounded by lush gardens and mature trees, the property offers a secluded and serene setting.
