About the host
Hosted by Donald Remaniak
My ancestors established a farm in Vermont during the 1700's. I visited relatives in this area and estate as a child. I vowed as an 8 year old that one day I would return and not leave. I spent 20 years traveling the continents with that promise in mind. My love with Lake Dunmore and the surrounding mountains has never waned. I have now been in Middlebury Vermont for over 20 years and there is no other place on earth that has captured my soul as this has.
Why they chose this property
Far Enough is an estate built by one of Vermont's industrial founding fathers, Royal Blake. It is surrounded by the history of a bygone era. The iron foundry built by this original owner still stands in the forest across the street, a 3 minute walk. It echoes a semblance of the majestic Mayan Ruin, Tikal, in Guatemala. In the early 1800's over 200 people were employed by the "Ironmaster" Royal Blake. The home he built is a reflection of a time when great wealth was possible from the raw land. Those times petered out but fortunately this beautiful historic home has locked this nostalgia within it's 3 foot thick stone walls . Huge rooms, high ceilings, quarter sawn oak paneling, on a rolling estate are just a few features of this property.
When my son discovered this property on the market I could hardly believe it. Little did he know, that as a child I had played in the apple orchid behind this mansion while my mom visited friends that lived up the road. Nearly 50 years passed; fate has led us to become curators of this property.

What makes this property unique
The enormous hand cut stones that make up this home are it's most captivating feature. It is almost unfathomable that these rocks were quarried and placed at a time when technology was levers and pulleys. Vermont at the turn of the 18th century was a wild place; its' gifts were raw and its' consequences unforgiving. There was a family that worked with what they found here and not only survived but proliferated and left this legacy.
The Blake Foundry Home offer a comfortable and charming setting where one can appreciate these old world gifts.
Discovery awaits at your door with the modern world at your fingertips. A beautiful mountain river with private swimming hole is across the street. Hiking, to the cliffs of Mt Horrid is only 10 minutes away on the long trail at Brandon Gap. Brandon Gap Backcountry Recreation Area hots four separate ski zones. Neshobe Golf Course is 5 minutes down he road on your way to Brandon. Brandon hosts many fine restaurants (Cafe Provence, River Pub and Grill, etc) Foley's Brewery and Ripton Mountain Distillery.
Skiing at Killington and Middlebury College Snow bowl are nearby. Lake Dunmore, Silver Lake and Moosalamoo National Recreation are just minutes away..
