About this property
Canyon city Royal Gorge/West Cliffe, Mt Views, internet/sauna, pet friendly,
Our rustic log cabin, nestled into a hillside at 8100 feet elevation, looks out across a valley at the spectacular 14,000-foot Sangre de Cristo mountain range, in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Located 35 minutes on well maintained gravel mountain roads from Canon City. New Kitchen renovation 2025.! Kicking back on the front deck, you have a panoramic view of mountains on three sides. And, sitting on a private 11-acre wooded lot, you have peace, quiet and seclusion – your nearest neighbor is 200 yards away.. The cozy great-room/kitchen area is the perfect place for family fun – a gas fireplace, comfy sofas around a game table, and a fully equipped kitchen. The three bedrooms sleep six comfortably, with space for 1more if you use the pull out cot, and sleeping bags in the rooms. We installed a new sauna and renovated our master bath. Just a few minutes away from the San Isabel national forest, you have access to Buffalo Peaks, Collegiate Peaks, Mount Massive, Sangre de Christo and Spanish peaks wilderness areas. Fantastic white-water rafting and tubing, or exciting fly-fishing await you on the Arkansas River, a 30-minute drive from the cabin. You can mountain bike right out the front door, cycling a few minutes down the road, or explore a fire road up the Wet Mountains for hours. If you are more of an ATV fan, this area of Colorado is loaded with some of the best trails with the most amazing views. During the hot summer months, you can swim or tube in the Arkansas River in Canon city. July, Aug, and Sept are great times to wade with the kids. Or, if you just want to sit in peace and quiet and enjoy a breath-taking view, this simple cabin is for you. Come and find your balance, re-charge your batteries, inspire your senses and sleep peacefully as a baby in this warm and sturdy cabin.

About the host
Hosted by Kimberly Reed

We are a family currently living on both sides of the Atlantic. We have lived in Boston, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Denver. But our favorite place in the world is the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountain range in southcentral Colorado. We are 'outdoor people' - love to hike with our dogs, take beautiful photos of nature, canoe on a lake or river, cross-country ski through a forest. And at the end of the day, take the time to cook a gourmet meal together and enjoy a nice glass of wine. We are also voracious readers and love board games.
Why they chose this property
The cabin was love at first sight. We are not Club Med or Hilton Hotel people. But we are nature/peace and quiet people. This rustic log cabin was barely visible from the road, hidden by pines, nestled into the side of a hill. It sits up higher than all of the other properties around it. With huge windows on three sides of the Great Room, you have commanding views of Locke Mountain/San Isabel National Forest and the Sangre de Cristos. We also value 'quiet' - living in, or near, a large city for most of our lives, it is nice to be in at a place where you actually hear nothing but the gentle breeze through the pinion pines, an occasion bird chirping, the braying of the neighbors donkey. Often, ou hear nothing at all. A car passes maybe once or twice an hour - and even then, it is 400 yards away, and down a hill. We chose this cabin as a perfect get-away for ourselves, never thinking that we would rent it out to others. The only reason we are not in Denver now enjoying our cabin is because of job opportunities abroad in Sweden. This cabin is perfect year-round (provided you have a good 4-wheel drive vehicle in the snowy months, or chains on your tires).
What makes this property unique
For nature-lovers, hunters and fly-fishermen on the Arkansas River (17 miles from the property) peaceful and majestic mountain views. Sauna, Relaxing , away from all noise, cooking and enjoying friends on the deck. Simple with no distractions, yet having everything you need - a full bath, fully equipped kitchen, well-appointed great room and three bedrooms. Because our 11 acres is fairly secluded, you can even enjoy skeet and target shooting on the Northeast corner of the property. We are only 500 yards across a valley from the San Isabel National forest. We are a 20 minute drive to the quaint town of Westcliffe with some great restaurants and great for art enthusiasts and shopping.
