Come and enjoy the luxury and privacy of the Historic 'San Jacinto Cottage'. This beautifully restored 1937 California Monterey Ranch Home sits at the foot of the San Jacinto Mountains and is walled and gated for complete privacy on 1/3 acre. The home is located in the historic Tennis Club area of Palm Springs and is very walkable just a few blocks from downtown. Enjoy the sparkling salt water pool and private grounds. The home has 4 bedrooms and 4 baths - so lots of room for everyone. Centrally located walking distance to terrific shops, eateries and Museums. The home was originally built by the Pershing Family - General John J. Pershing, and has long been an oasis of relaxation and solitude in the desert. Over the years it has been host to numerous celebrity guests and international events. It is rumored that Gen. George Patton would stay here when in the desert as well as Hollywood Celebrities.

The large estate has over 2700 square feet of living space and is surrounded by 1/3 of an acre of sprawling grounds. There are 4 large comfortable bedrooms each with own private bath. Two of the bedrooms are ensuite, one of which is over 500 sq. ft. The main living quarters include a large living room with a wall of glass sliding door and chef's kitchen complete with stainless steel appliances. The home has been designed for indoor / outdoor living with french doors that frame the incredible mountain and/or pool views from virtually every room. The home has been extensively and lovingly remodeled and outfitted with top elegant and comfortable furnishings with early California Monterey furniture and accessories. All of the beds are premium quality outfitted with 100% cotton linens for all of the bedrooms and baths. Period paintings and artwork grace the walls and rooms throughout. Vintage Library and period details create an environment typical of early California desert living.

The outdoor space includes a very large and private backyard with expansive 1937 estate size 'Salt-Water' pool. It also includes a chef's barbecue and wood burning fire pit. A perfect place to view the beautiful starry nights in the desert.... There's also plenty of room for entertaining or just relaxing by the pool and enjoying your own private views of the majestic mountains.

The House is completely private and and remote yet walking distance to Downtown Palm Springs Shops and Restaurants. It is also very close to the exclusive Ingleside Inn and Viceroy Hotel. Peace and quiet with style and quality. The perfect getaway...

Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Please place all dirty towels in the bathtubs or if wet please hang over the shower doors.
Please turn the AC to 85 degrees (or off in the winter)
Please make sure the umbrellas in the backyard are closed and straps are tied and return all pool floats and toys to the garage
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Attached rental agreement must be completed, signed and returned within 48 hours of booking. It includes the City of Palm Springs VR ordinance.

The house is absolutely charming and comfortable and the host, Steve, was delightful and very helpful. The neighborhood is also charming and the house is perfectly situated to walk everywhere. I wouldn't hesitate to book again or highly recommend. If I had to think of one thing to complain about, it would be the lack of screens on the windows. But, not a big deal. Overall it is a magical place!

This home is located in the a highly desired area of Palm Springs, walking distance to so many attractions! It is in a lovely neighborhood so no frat parties here which is ok with this renter. Loved all the amenities in the kitchen and throughout the home. I honestly did not want to leave. We enjoyed looking at all the books, art and special touches throughout the house. Canceled dinner reservations out so we could eat in one night just to enjoy this beautiful home. We all agreed we'd be back!

The host was very welcoming and helpful. The house was a great location and generally what I expected. The one negative is the master bathroom--glass shower door scrapes the tile, one of the towel racks is coming off the wall, the toilet kept running, paint peeling in the drawers, and light out in one of the closets. For the price, the bathroom should have been better. All else great and Steve was very resposive.

The home is very warm and welcoming some rentals are clean but sterile this home seems like someone loved this house and decorated it with items that meant something to them. The pool is large the air conditioners work excellently we were all impressed and did not want to leave. Beautiful neighborhood.

Highly recommend this property. The backyard and pool are amazing with bbq and firepit. Pool heat was well worth the cost, even with Feb temps the pool was perfect for swimming. The backyard is very thoughtfully set up with seating areas that allow you to have sun or shade any time of the day. The location is also great. We did not have a car and that was not an issue. We walked to both downtown and hiking trails (Tahquitz Canyon and North Lykken) easily. The house had plenty of space for our family of five (3 teenagers). The kitchen was well equipped and we ate at home a couple of the nights. We would stay again. I would not recommend for families with small children as there are many accesses to the yard / pool. They all lock but if you have one child capable of unlocking them and others that cannot be unattended at the pool, it could be a stressful stay.

We love spending time at the San Jacinto Cottage. We love collecting items that represent the Desert and Early California living. We love desert landscape paintings and art and artifacts of the Native Americans. We also, love hiking up the mountain and walking to nearby downtown shops and eateries.

Why they chose this property

This is perfect Palm Springs home - private in every way.... with stunning views of the mountains from almost every room in the house. The Historic Tennis Club is one of the oldest and most charming neighborhoods in Palm Springs. The house is very peaceful and quiet yet it is walking distance to everything Palm Springs has to offer including the Palm Springs Art Museum as well as shops and restaurants. It's also close access to hiking and nature trails at the just end of the street. There are amazing views - especially when the sun rises or sets against the beautiful mountains. There's a real sense of Palm Springs History here with a beautifully restored 1937 pool and patio area for entertaining or just relaxing in the desert.

What makes this property unique

The house is extremely peaceful and quiet. The San Jacinto Cottage is built in hacienda Monterey Style where all of the rooms open up to the outside pool and patio... And have beautiful mountain views. This home is perfectly designed for indoor / outdoor living. The home is outfitted with our personal collection of desert landscape paintings, vintage library, and period furnishings. There is also a great eat-in chef's kitchen with top of the line appliances. The beds are all quality certa beds with 100% cotton sheets and blankets
