About this property
Downstairs Level Of Two Story Home in Bass Hbr. Upstairs is a separate rental.
This is a Saturday-to-Saturday vacation rental for up to 4 adults (adults only). The spacious deck of the Downstairs apartment is only a few feet from the water's edge at high tide. The front door, approached from the parking area and gardens, has a small deck with two steps; the sliding glass door on the harbor-side deck is accessed by a ramp.
The sliding glass door opens into the living room area. The living room has a beautiful sliding glass door view of the harbor, and the windows add the head-of-the-harbor view of the mountains. There are two comfortable arm chairs and coffee table, gas fireplace, books, and ROKU TV in the living room, with the kitchen and dining area just beyond.
The small kitchen has a four-burner electric stove, microwave, fridge, and a good variety of pots, pans, dishes, and utensils; cleaning supplies under the sink. There is a small dining table for two in the kitchen area, and the deck has a round picnic table and four comfy chairs if you care to eat outdoors.
The harbor side bedroom has a queen-size bed, two side tables, dresser and closet. The study in the room next to the bedroom has a desk, twin sized bed, dresser and closet. Being a cozy apartment, it is perfect for a couple.
There is a full bath just a few steps away: all tile; tub and shower. Plenty of fresh bath linens. Supplies you might need are under the vanity.
The deck wraps around the side and front of the house and is shaded part of the day by the Upstairs deck. There are the outdoor table and four chairs, and a grill. It’s a wonderful place for watching the gulls and eagles and other shore birds, the boats coming and going, the fishermen with their lobster boats, and the sunset over Bernard, across the harbor: great opportunities for making some memorable photos.
There is central heat; fans for ventilation if needed; all linens (bed, bath, and kitchen) are provided. Immaculately clean. Lovely decor. No smoking, no pets, not appropriate for children.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Glad to be on 'the quiet side': Views are beautiful. Bass Harbor has been photographed for the cover of a National Geographic book about New England and has been the site of several movies. The lobster fishing boats are always interesting, and if you love wildlife, eagles soar over the harbor daily. We counted twelve herons in the low tide one September day and have watched loons, ducks, terns, and gulls work the harbor.
Although we're only thirty minutes from Bar Harbor, we are essentially very different. Bass Harbor is a small fishing village and working harbor on the southern end of Mount Desert Island. We're called 'The quiet side of the Island.' There's plenty to do here: The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Wonderland and Ship Harbor (part of Acadia National Park) are only a mile or two away. At Little Island Marine, the small boatyard which shares the peninsula with the house, Island Cruises makes nature trips Monday through Saturday, and charters private fishing or sailing trips. Restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Stunning views, very comfortable, clean, aesthetic home, quiet location but accessible to all in Acadia...which we love. Hosts communicative and warm...we felt so lucky to be able to stay here. We come every year; the hosts made this a superlative stay.
My wife and I had an incredible week staying at Charlene’s accommodation. It was clean, very homey, and extremely comfortable. We enjoyed evenings sitting on the deck, watching lobster boats come in and out, and watching beautiful sunsets. The area is very quiet and perfect for a quiet vacation! We hope to come back someday.
Great place in a beautiful spot on the water. Very comfy accommodations with a full kitchen. Our 3rd year here and I’d stay all year if I could. Thank you Charlene.
The cottage was located in a beautiful serine private spot on Bass Harbor. We arrived and the cottage was super clean, kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cookware provided. Cozy layout with a gorgeous porch overlooking the bay. Owner was great in communication and we could not have dreamed of a better place. Looking forward to return next year!
We always enjoy our visit to Bass Harbor and LIH is the cherry on top! Beautiful views, access to Acadia, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. Host communication was prompt and helpful. We’ll be back!!
This was the best place we have ever rented. We absolutely loved how close the house was to the water.
Very relaxing to sit on the deck or on chairs in living room viewing the water and lobster boats.
The place was extra tidy and well equipped with everything we needed.
This was our 2nd time renting this great house. Small, clean, comfortable. But the location is wonderful with amazing views and the sunsets will knock your socks off! Stunning.
We had a wonderful stay. After adventuring during the day we couldn’t wait to come home and watch the sunsets from the deck. The house was cozy and we had everything we needed. Even the bed was comfortable allowing my tired body a good night’s rest. Staying there was so relaxing. 10/10.
We arrived to find everything ready for us and welcoming. The apartment has everything you could need to be comfortable, to cook at home, to relax, and watch the water, sealife, and boats. We even saw a bald eagle! It is convenient to acadia, the ferry, and several restaurants. We did not need to contact Charlene at all as everything was perfect.
We would definitely rent here again.
This was our second stay in The Little Island House. I plan on returning. There's nothing more relaxing than having morning coffee on the deck overlooking the harbor. Watching the lobster boats and sea birds.
The rental is comfortable and extremely clean. I adored the crisp white sheets on the bed.
This is a great little place! Everything was as we expected and We had everything we needed. The sunset view was amazing. My only suggestion would be to add a hammock to the porch (lol I improvised and napped on the chair cushions).
If you wand touristy bar harbor- this is not it. We loved being away from the hustle and bustle and didn't mind a short drive to explore or grab dinner.
Great house. Immaculate! The kitchen had any tool I needed. Really comfortable beds! Million dollar views. Hiking trails nearby including some within walking distance. It really felt like home to me. 3 minute walk to a restaurant with tasty seafood, good beers and a fabulous staff! Most restful vacation in a very long time.
Total enjoyment of this exceptionally clean property. The back deck provides a peaceful waterfront view of the harbor with hours of viewing the birds, boats and tides. Everything we needed was included in each room for a comfortable stay. The decor provided a comfy atmosphere with a New England feel. We enjoyed the beautiful artwork. The bed was so comfortable. Great nights sleep in silence until the sounds of the lobster boats heading out in the early morning hours, which we also enjoyed. Will look forward to returning.
