Please clean the back and front porch area, there were leave in the back on the steps. Please take care of the basement toilet .
The host was very responsive and made checking in and out very easy. The house was the perfect amount of space for our family of 6! We enjoyed our stay and everything was close to the main attractions downtown DC.
This is a great home for a family vacation. Our family of five was very comfortable. That said, here are things to consider:Cons (I’ll do the cons first, so we can end on a good note with the pros.)-Communication is changing, so contact the hosts directly instead of going through the third party. I found the hosts to be very reliable and friendly, but when contacting the third party, I was a little stressed.-Lots of steps. It’s fine for people in shape, but if you have aging knees like mine, remember that you have to walk up a flight of stairs to enter the house, and up or down a flight of stairs to access the bedrooms. The house is split on three levels, but the main things (kitchen, living room, bedrooms) are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The basement is refinished and on the first floor. Nice looking space, but the beds upstairs are superior to the mattress in the basement.-This is not a neighborhood where you want to go for an evening stroll. The house is beautiful, so unless you’re familiar with the area, stay inside.Pros-The hosts are very friendly.-The beds upstairs are nice and comfy.-There are window units in the upstairs bedrooms that were perfect for our family as we all enjoy different temps at night.-The house is close to everything in DC! Excellent location. Check out the events at the Wharf. We enjoyed those!-The house is very spacious and the kitchen is beautiful and comes with seasonings and pots with measuring lines I used for rice.
The house was beautiful very very nicely decorated. The rooms were comfortable. The location was perfect to where we needed to go during our stay. The owners responded immediately to any concerns that we had. It was a pleasurable experience.
Our group stayed here for my bachelorette weekend while we were in town for an event. The home is cute, and we loved the living room with the beautiful emerald green accent wall. The kitchen is also nicely decorated. Unfortunately, our stay had several issues that made it difficult to fully enjoy the property. The listing indicated additional sleeping accommodations, but we were never able to locate the sofa bed. As a result, one guest had to sleep on the living room couch and another had to sleep on basement couch. basement bed was not very sturdy, and the basement shower constantly clogged, leaving me standing in dirty water while showering. On the second day, the kitchen lights stopped working, an electrical outlet in one of the bedrooms stopped working, and one of our friends became locked inside her bedroom because the door malfunctioned. We contacted the host for assistance, but when we returned from the event we went to, the lighting issue had still not been resolved. Someone came inflated an air mattress that had been stored balled up in the basement closet, Overall, the home has potential, but it is in need of updates. We appreciated the décor and the charm of the home, but the maintenance issues, electrical problems, and sleeping accommodations made our stay disappointing. I hope these concerns are addressed for future guests.
We just got back from DC, and had a great stay at this house! It was very convenient to everthing DC has to offer. If you are a runner, walker or cyclist, you will love this location. It is two blocks away from a paved path down by the river. You can watch the boats and college rowing teams while you run. Anacostia has changed a lot since I lived in DC many years ago, and it is great to see such a vibrant neighborhood. W

Pros: - off-street parking for 2 vehicles - 3 1/2 bathrooms - 3 bedrooms upstairs - basement apartment with additional sleeping area - laundry on-site - steps away from bus stop - easy to get to Metro station - Metro system in DC is excellent!Cons: - burnt out lightbulbs - some kitchen pans needed to be replaced - some kitchen pans were not clean - water and dead bugs in tea kettle - no bathroom hand towels or anywhere to hang one - door knob issues with a bedroom and bathroom - some interior spaces were quite tight, i.e. 1/2 bath on main floor and upstairs bedroom with en suite bathroom
Wonderful home. You won't have any problems with staying here for a few nights. Location is a short drive to DC and to other attractions. The only advice I would suggest to the owners is the TV situation. The main living room TV was working fine, but one room upstairs had no TV, one had no media device at all, and the basement TV had no controller. Electronic fireplace controller batteries were dead and there was a laser pointer on the living room table as well. Also, the pots and pans could use an upgrade. Other than that, 4 out of 5 for me.
The house was fine and had some great upgrades but I have to agree with the previous review about the TV ‘sOnly the living room and one smaller bedroom had working TV’s .One of them in the middle bedroom had nothing but snow. The host advised me that they don’t provide streaming services. However nothing at all was on the screen when powered on ….and the basement had no working remotes. The fireplace still wasn’t working. So these problems have not been corrected since the last reviewer was there.Overall, the house was large enough for our family to enjoy some time together and were comfortable
First of all, the owners/representatives were awesome and quick to answer my numerous questions which made this stay easy and painless!!I want to make sure to say how beautifully decorated, homey and clean this place was from the moment we walked in the door. That being said, my brother & SIL arrived in the evening and were concerned by the neighborhood being "rough". It was a Thursday evening, around 5pm and there was alot of loud, foot traffic in the middle of the road and lights & sirens...all the scary stuff when you are new to a neighborhood. But in the light of the morning, my husband and brother sat on the front porch and chatted with the neighbors. Beautiful, wonderful, friendly people!! The initial concerns were so wrong!! During the time we were there, we enjoyed not just the interior but the neighborhood and neighbors at the property. The rooms were all exactly as shown. The beds were SO COMFORTABLE and the pillows were amazing!! (We all want those mattresses and pillows! Lol) The bathrooms were all well stocked, even with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The kitchen was also well stocked. There are air conditioner units in each room which was wonderful because we slept wonderfully. The air conditioner in the living area worked great and kept us cool. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place was to stay and we'd love to stay again in the future!! If you are interested then make sure to ask all the questions because the owners will respond!
We loved our stay at Emerald Escape Hilltop Home! The home has 3 levels and looks just like the pictures. It is adorable! It was only my husband and I who stayed, but it would be perfect for a large family. The common area is on the 2nd floor and includes the living room, full kitchen, dining room, half bath, and laundry. The bedrooms and additional full baths are on the 3rd level. The basement is on level 1 and has a bed, kitchenette, sink, fridge, microwave, and oven. We spent most of our time in the basement because we had our dog with us and it was convenient to go in and out to the back yard from the basement. The yard is fenced in the front and back. We loved that it had a parking space secured in the back yard. You enter from the ally and open the garage door to the back yard. Parking is insane in DC so this was a huge perk for us. We parked our car and didn’t take it out until we left to go home. We called Uber to take us into the city each day. We never paid more than 15-20 each way and the drivers were all quick to arrive and knowledgeable of the area. With traffic, Ubering to Capitol Hill and the major sites took about 15 minutes. We even took an Uber to Mount Vernon which was about a 35 minute drive. The cost for that Uber was 25. The home was clean and the beds were comfortable. We had the pleasure of meeting the next door neighbors and they were very nice. The hosts were top notch and checked on us via text during our stay. I definitely recommend this house.

Disappointing
The photos are lovely, but do not reflect the home. There were many cosmetic and functionality differences that I won't list here in entirety. As a representative example, what was represented as a television was actually a computer monitor, so not usable as represented. Most important feedback were the multiple safety issues: 1 of the dining room table legs was not connected to the tabletop and others were poorly or improperly connected. One bathroom and one bedroom did not have functioning doorknobs (one did not have a handle, the other fell out when touched, including when the door was closed and latched, trapping the user inside). The door to the downstairs living space did not close and the knob/lock was installed wrong so could not be safely fastened. There are other issues but the biggest to my mind was getting a message from the host that a member of her team entered the locked space without notifying us, reaching out only after they had left. It was alarming enough that we chose to leave early. Please note this is not a comprehensive list of issues, just the most concerning. Of note, the host did respond to my messages. I sent messages about all of these issues and described how we temporarily remediated the issues. Before staying here, I'd want to know all the issues were safely addressed.

Crystal, thank you for your detailed feedback, and we're sorry your stay fell short of expectations. We want to address the most serious concern directly: no one ever entered the locked interior of the home. Our team member accessed only the open-air backyard garage space, which is separate from the home, to move the trash bins to the alley for city pickup, a routine task. We understand the message was unclear and caused alarm. We sincerely apologize for that confusion. Regarding the maintenance concerns you raised, doorknobs, lighting, and kitchen items are valid, and we have since addressed them. We hold ourselves to a high standard, and your feedback directly led to improvements. We're grateful you shared your experience.
