About this property
Casa La Paloma - Historic Sonoma, Old World Charm, Great Location, Pool Coming
In 2023, we did a major update to the furnishings at Casa la Paloma, including new furniture, bed linens, decor, even light fixtures. In the spacious back yard you can enjoy the new hot tub, patio furniture, outdoor dining table and grill. It looks wonderful as shown by the fabulous guest reviews. The update was done with care and purpose to maintain the original style. Photos recently updated!
Exciting News: Swimming Pool and Pool House Coming in October 2025!
We’re thrilled to announce the addition of a beautiful new swimming pool, set to be completed by Fall 2025! To make way for construction, a portion of the backyard will be screened off from April 2025 until October 2025.
During this period, we are prioritizing guest satisfaction by ensuring no construction work occurs during your stay. We will be limiting rentals to Thursday through Sunday, and nightly rates have been discounted to account for our reduced availability.
We’re committed to preserving a serene and enjoyable experience for all our guests. The outdoor patio and dining area will remain fully accessible, so you can relax and savor the backyard space throughout the entire construction phase.
Step into the spirit of Early Sonoma California by staying at Casa la Paloma – one of Sonoma’s historic homes from the mid 1800s. It has been carefully renovated for comfort, convenience, the maintenance of its historic character and has received awards from the Historic Society. Filled with old world charm of Spanish/Mexican California, it is located right downtown only a block from the Plaza. It’s unique location provides you with the comfortable feeling of being in a neighborhood and the fun of being only a short stroll from the life of the Plaza – walk to the Farmer’s Market, the best restaurants, the historic Sebastiani theater and endless wine tastings. You’ll be pleased you don’t have to drive home!
Casa La Paloma has a lovely spacious backyard with old fruit trees, and a beautiful patio for dining outside . Here, you can barbeque, have a small family gathering, entertain friends for supper or just relax.
The large Great Room, with it’s original Salt Box architecture, creates a wonderful space with antique Spanish furnishings and charmingly combines the kitchen, dining area with a table for 8 and the living room.
The kitchen has everything you could need for quick meals or a gourmet dinner.
In the old Parlor/Library you can quietly read, watch TV, check your email or send the kids there to play board games.
Off the Great Room you’ll find the Master Bedroom with it’s beautiful, king-sized hand carved four-poster bed, European armoire and French doors which open to the patio. The adjoining spacious Master Bath has been completely remodeled for comfort.
The second downstairs Bedroom is in the heart of the older part of the house. It has a queen brass bed and is romantic, cozy and charming. Here, the spirit of the building welcomes you warmly.
Upstairs, in the older part of the house, there are 2 more bedrooms.
Sunny and sweet, the room on the right brings the mission Spanish character of old Sonoma together with modern style and comfort, and has a king-sized four poster bed and lots of closet space.
The bedroom on the left, also sunny and warm, has two queen-sized beds. Perhaps this is the best room for the children or a couple with a child.
There is no bathroom upstairs in this part of the old historic house.
Just downstairs off the kitchen, there is a second small newly remodeled bathroom with a corner shower which is shared with the downstairs bedroom.
The spaciousness, lovely garden and great location make Casa La Paloma a perfect location for special occasions – a place for the wedding friends and family to stay, host out of town guests who have come for a conference or workshop and would like to stay longer to tour the area etc.
Casa La Paloma’s great location, charm, and the feeling of old Sonoma will enhance your visit.

About the host
Hosted by Kendall Comfort

We are two sisters, Avra and Noni (Deirdre), born and raised in the beautiful town of Sonoma. Casa La Paloma has been part of our family for many years and holds a special place in our hearts.
Our mom, Moona O’Toole, ran a beloved boutique in this space for years before transforming it into a vacation rental in 2013. With her incredible sense of style, she created a home filled with warmth, character, and charm. In 2024, we renovated Casa La Paloma to add modern comforts—luxury linens, updated amenities, and thoughtful touches—while preserving the Colonial Spanish décor and Early California Sonoma ambiance that make it so unique.
Today, Noni is a professional horse trainer in Sonoma County, and Avra lives in Denver with her family, working for The Nature Conservancy. Though life has taken us in different directions, hosting Casa La Paloma allows us to share our roots and welcome guests to experience the magic of Sonoma the way we grew up knowing it.
We hope you feel at home here and enjoy creating your own memories at Casa La Paloma, just as our family has for generations!

Why they chose this property
The beauty of this property is in it's history. It was built as a home in the 1870s although it's adobe insulation in walls goes back to earlier times. It was the Bates family home in the 1800s.I have always maintained it's historic character and appreciated it's beautiful large garden area It is close to the Plaza but just enough away not to be too noisy and to have a neighborhood feeling. The best of both worlds.
What makes this property unique
It's location, California style and great gathering places for friends and family make Casa La Paloma an ideal setting to enjoy Sonoma. It is 1 block to the Plaza close to award-winning restaurants and wine tasting. It is on the East side of town with close access to the local original wineries and picnic areas. You can even ride your bikes. If you plan to go to the Napa Valley, you are on your way without going through town traffic.
