About this property

The Urban Nature Hideaway - 1BR close-in private garden apartment

Urban Nature Hideaway: a cozy, artfully designed garden apartment just 10 minutes from downtown Portland. A peaceful, nature-filled retreat with easy city access. Guests say it feels restorative, spacious and even more beautiful in person.

Welcome to the Urban Nature Hideaway! An artfully designed, cozy apartment tucked into a peaceful garden sanctuary in the charming Ardenwald neighborhood of Milwaukie.

Just 10 minutes from downtown Portland, this space offers the rare blend of a quiet, nature-filled retreat and easy city access. Guests often describe it as peaceful, restorative and even more beautiful in person.

The apartment is thoughtfully prepared so you can arrive and settle in without effort. The space is light-filled, clean and simply designed, with natural textures and small touches that make it feel calm and easy to live in. Guests often mention how intuitive everything feels - from clearly organized essentials to an overall sense of care.

The mid-century kitchen is fully equipped with a full-size refrigerator, induction 2-burner cook-top, toaster oven, toaster, coffee maker and electric kettle, along with oils, spices, teas, creamers and quality coffee. Whether you’re making a quick breakfast or full meal, you’ll have what you need.

The plant-filled bedroom features a queen-size bed made with organic cotton and wool materials for a comfortable, grounded night’s rest. The living area offers a full-size futon for additional sleeping, along with a cozy sitting space designed for rest and reset, complete with books, meditation chairs and a yoga mat.

The apartment comfortably accommodates up to 3 guests (4 depending on age and size), making it a great fit for solo travelers, couples, friends or families. For those traveling with children, there’s a collection of handcrafted wooden toys, books and simple creative play materials. A Pack-n-Play is available upon request for an additional fee.

You’ll have full private access to the apartment, with a separate entrance and keypad for easy self check-in. Arrival is part of the experience... follow a softly lit stone path through the garden to your private entrance in the backyard.

Free street parking is available directly in front of the home. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and tree-lined, with nearby bike paths, parks and green spaces. A favorite neighborhood café is just a 5-minute walk away, perfect for a slow morning or easy start to your day.

You’ll be centrally located between the neighborhoods of Sellwood, Woodstock and downtown Milwaukie, each just 5–10 minutes away with great restaurants, cafés, shops, farmers markets and local charm. Downtown Portland is a short drive, offering the energy of the city while you return to a more peaceful home-base.

Step outside and you’re in a living garden sanctuary. Wake to birdsong, sip tea in the sun, or wander the garden path. Our small urban micro-farm includes chickens, quail, a rabbit, cats and a friendly older dog - all part of the natural rhythm of the space. In season, we’re happy to share fresh eggs, along with herbs, fruits and vegetables when available.

We also care for two honeybee hives. The bees play an important role in pollinating the gardens. Their hives are located away from the apartment entrance and pathways. If you’re curious, feel free to ask questions or, when timing allows, we’re happy to offer a closer, guided look.

Our family lives above the apartment and follows a simple rhythm, with evenings winding down around 10pm and mornings beginning around 6am (a bit later on weekends). You can hear muffled movement and voices during our comings and goings.

We maintain a smoke-free environment and ask for your respect of our home and land.

We offer the kind of hosting that feels like a warm welcome without intrusion. Whether you prefer privacy or connection, we honor your pace and are available if anything is needed. Guests often share how cared for and at ease they feel during their stay.

This is more than a place to stay. It’s a lovingly tended refuge, meant to restore and inspire.

Lovely little spot. Hosts upstairs were a little noisy, lots of footsteps and floor creaks, esp early in the morning.

Cozy and peaceful. The rental was stocked with little extras like cherry tomatoes from their garden and quail eggs in the fridge. I really appreciated the cough drops tucked into the linen closet alongside other assorted toiletries guests may need.Sharon is a wonderful host, checking-in via email every now and then to see if we needed anything. My husband enjoyed the varied tea selection and organic honey we found in the kitchen.

What a thoughtful and well appointed place! They had everything labeled so nicely around the apartment, and lots of extras available, including (but not limited to) games, extra toiletries, extra blankets/towels, space heaters, phone charging pads, as well as fresh coffee, teas, even eggs from their chickens and quails and fresh tomatoes from their garden! Really above and beyond. Also, those chickens and quails were so lovely and sweet, and we enjoyed wondering around the backyard to visit them and check out the plants. We had time to do our laundry in the washer/dryer in the apartment (what a bonus!), and our hosts were super attentive and available (even though there was nothing we needed— it was already all there). We had a nice time walking around the quiet neighborhood and had a tasty breakfast at the local coffee shop one morning as well. Great place, great location. Fabulous stay.
