Parking was a snap, and right in front of the cabin. We liked the place so much, we are already planning a trip for next year and inviting some friends
Absolutely loved our stay. Quaint and cozy, had all we needed and was in perfect proximity to Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Our whole family, teens and tween included loved it!

We were so happy to host Philippe and family! He did clarify with me that when he wrote this review, he mixed up Merrynook with the property they stayed at near Yosemite, so these comments actually refer to that one. But he said they were both 5 star!
We stayed here while visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The cabin was in a perfect location for our visit and provided a comfortable and quiet retreat during our evenings. It's an older cabin but was very clean and cozy! We would absolutely stay here again.
This place is very nice. It’s small but cosy. The hosts were great and friendly and helped us sort out some issues with our rental car.
The locations is very nice with easy access to the national parks. Kitchen is well equiped.
Awesome cabin and perfect for sequoia and kings canyon
We loved the cabin. Everything about it was perfect and owners were great. If you’re worried about no AC, don’t be. The swamp cooler and open windows at night had us all sleeping like babies. We also loved the decor and then extremely well stocked kitchen. If we ever make it back to this area we will be here again!JD
Loved the cabin. Clean, had everything you can think of. Would highly recommend for couples and families. Close to king’s canyon and sequoia national parks. Great communication with the hosts
This cabin was amazing. We enjoyed the eclectic furnishings, it's proximity to Kings Canyon NP and a bar selling great pubgrub. The owners gave us plenty of information, and though they lied behind the property, we never felt there was any intrusion. A great experience and we hope to return soon.
Cozy cabin in which to create fantastic family memories
We had such a great time! The wood stove, fabulous art and trinkets, and easy communication with the host added up to make our Thanksgiving trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP the best possible. Thank you Mahalia and Bachrun LoMele!
Cute cabin very near Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Perfect spot for getting to park destinations. Requires a little pre-planning to get groceries on way in.
Hosts were great.
So beautiful. So easy to be there . Great couple that owns it. They were very accommodating and friendly. Its quiet. Its got everything you need.GREAT STAY
Our family of 5 stayed as we toured the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for 3 nights. The cabin is adorable! We loved it and the space it provided for all of us! It was super close to the park entrance, and that was a huge plus! Mahalia was a great host letting us know of any issues- such as a road closing and the wild fire that happened to happen the same time we were there. Great communication!
The cabin was perfect for our family and bigger than I expected. It has a great location near the parks. But the thing I most appreciated was how much at home we felt. Unlike the sterile, minimalist design trends of today, it was like stepping into a cozy friend or relative's house. We were surrounded by a lifetime's worth of collectibles, art, and an ecclectic assortment of books. We also had an opportunity to meet the owner, which it usually not an option in the impersonal world of rentals these days. Five stars!
Charming place very close to Kings Canyon / Sequoia National Parks
Quaint place a short (windy) drive to the Kings Canyon entrance. Lots of room. No dishwasher, but otherwise the kitchen had just about anything you would need including spices, condiments, etc. The host was quick to respond when we had any questions or issues. Be aware there are is a small step between the living area and the bedroom area along with a couple steps down to enter the bathroom. The host has small lights on the steps which was much appreciated when making our way around at night.
We had a wonderful stay at this cozy cabin. The location for visiting Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon is great. The owners were very relaxed and accommodating. My daughter enjoyed playing the piano on the front porch which was surprisingly well tuned for being outdoors. Well stocked house with board games and kitchen supplies. Enough space for our family of five. If you are uncomfortable on mountain roads, 245 is challenging. I would arrive via Dunlap or Dry Creek Road instead.
The cottage was cozy and nice and we enjoyed our daily visits from Puffnip the cat when we were on the porch having coffee. Mahalia was wonderful and a big help with planning our visits to the parks.
Mahalia’s home in the woods was great!! We all loved the house and all the homey touches ( art, books, wood burning stove, bathtub!). We had all we needed and truly enjoyed our time. We would love to come back in the future. The proximity to the SEKI parks was superb. A great time was had by my family. Thanks again Mahalia!!!

About the host
Hosted by Mahalia LoMele
Bachrun and I have lived in Pinehurst since 2003. We opened Fivespot Cabin to the public in 2008, and Merrynook in 2016. Former New Yorkers, we have adjusted to the rural, mountain life without abandoning the arts we love (music and visual art). Come see us!
Why they chose this property
Pinehurst was a flourishing logging community for decades. The Pinehurst Lodge, a short walk from Merrynook, is a locally-owned and operated restaurant in a 100-year-old former sawmill.
Cedarbrook, an early-20th century cabin community built by Mennonite families from nearby Reedley around a lovely year round stream, is a 10 minute walk away. Other nearby historical logging sites are Neff's Camp and Millwood. Today, small cabins used as summer homes, rentals, and by full-time residents, are scattered throughout the forest. Pinehurst's year-round population is around 350.
What makes this property unique
This is a cabin for exploring books, art, even for exploring the piano on the front porch. Merrynook is conducive to deep relaxing and taking care of yourself, family, and friends. Just chill out without your phone (although there's wi-fi if you have to!), and get back in touch with your simpler life.
