Vacation home for rent on Lake Superior in Big Bay, MI, 25 miles north of Marquette (the largest city in the Upper Peninsula of MI) in the north central Upper Peninsula. Enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Superior, the surrounding unspoiled wilderness, and the Huron Mountains.

The Lake Superior Beach House is an ideal location for those who want to enjoy abundant outdoor recreation from bird watching to hiking rugged trails with wonderful photographic opportunities around every corner. This beautiful cabin is located just yards from the pristine waters of Lake Superior, the largest body of fresh water in the world.


The Area: Big Bay is a quaint little town nestled between the great waters of Lake Superior and Lake Independence known for its excellent fishing opportunities. The town features boating, canoeing, kayaking (rentals available at the local bait and tackle store in town), rustic bars and restaurants, gift shops, groceries, public beach and play ground on Lake Independence at Perkins Park, and all around good times. Local guides are available for a fishing excursions featuring Lake trout on Lake Superior, or fly fishing the serene Yellow Dog River. Waterfall tours are also available and are very popular. Big Bay is an all seasons town but really comes alive in the summer, most camps and cottages are used as summer retreats.

Surronnding Area: The city of Marquette is located 25 miles down the road from Big Bay and has all the amenities of a large town. In the summer it offers festivals at the scenic and centrally located lower Harbor Park on the Lake (check marquette city web site: http://downtownmarquette.org/events for dates, there are to many to list). Marquette, which is home to Northern Michigan University offers many cultural and artistic events. Marquette General Hospital has been nationally recognized for its Health care is located next door. The scenic downtown is full of excellent shops and restaurants with unforgettable views of the harbor and is the heart of the City, especially on those warm summer nights.

Really nice week. Beautiful setting. Have to drive 40 min to Marquette where action is but lots of hikes nearby. Water about 66 degrees so swam every day. Lucky to have good weather everyday there

Peaceful, Scenic, & Better Than Advertised!

The atmosphere of a rustic beach cabin with all of the conveniences of any comfortable home. Like a private dark sky park. We really enjoyed out time and would definitely stay again.

Perfect Stay in the UP!

Great stay on Lake Superior

This was our third year staying at this property and we had a great time. The cabin is always very clean and cozy. The view from the deck can’t be beat and the beach is great for swimming. Can’t wait to return.

Great Getaway!

Beautiful wooded setting on a great beach. Even though it was a bit cool the kids got a lot of swimming in. The cabin is cozy but comfortable with a group. Everything you need is there.

Friendly, responsive host with no- nonsense check in and check out. Cabin was a little musty being near the water as is to be expected but was outfitted with a great air purifyer and a wonderful breeze off of the lake. It was so tastefully and thoughtfully decorated, with lots of games, working fireplace, 2 firepits, cornhole, hammock, a deck, swingset and a generously sized back porch with a view of the water. Comfortable beds and couch. Front stairs to get in would be a challenge for someone with mobility issues, and stairs to second floor. Water shallow, kids 10, 10,13 c swim out quite a distance. Shallow enough for younger children also. A good 40 min drive to a big grocery store but that is what we are used to at home too and were expecting it but make sure to load up in Marquette if you're coming from that direction. Cabin was well appointed with cookware, etc (we brought our own crock pot). Big Bay is small but has a small store for milk, cheese, etc if you forget something. Nice ice cream shop and listened to live music and had pizza at Lumberjack Tavern. Loads of places to hike within a 30 - 40 min drive in any direction. If you are looking for a place to relax in the northwoods by the water away from places packed with tourists, this is IT. We would rebook again 100%.According to my kids their only disappointment was that there were no Sasquatch sightings, yet all three of them told me it was still their favorite place theyve ever stayed so wasn'ta deal breaker!

Perfect Beachfront Cabin

This was the 3rd time we've stayed at Chris's beachfront home. Everything was perfect - from the chrck-in process to the morning we left. Frosted mugs in rhe freezer to firewood that is provided - and just steps from beautiful Lake Superior.

My husband and I loved our time in Big Bay and it was a perfect get away! So quiet with fall colors. Great fire place with word burning stove on cold nights. Chris was super responsive and available at all hours

Beautiful Big Bay

This was our second stay at this house. The location cannot be beat! The beach is sandy and private with amazing views of sunrises and sunsets. Easy drive to many waterfall hikes and also Marquette for shops and restaurants. The hosts were quick to answer any questions.

A great place to get away

We had a wonderful stay, this is a very nice cabin with just the right mix of old and new to keep it charming and comfortable. Loved swimming in the bay and walking the beach. Took naps on the porch listening to the waves. Thank you.

Wonderful location and host!

We have stayed here several times over the last 15 years and never regretted it. The Bay is so beautiful, and to swim in Lake Superior is a real treat. The location is quiet and a good jumping point for day trips to other sights in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The cabin works very well for our family with a nice blend of "cabin feel" and modern touches. Chris is a great host and very responsive to any questions. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing week at the beach. Everything about this location was perfect. We loved the beach (even though weather was cooler than we would have liked- didn't stop us from swimming almost every day). The cabin is beautiful and clean. Sand, Sun & Quiet

This is the second year we've stayed at Chris's and it's been THE BEST location and cabin we've stayed at in the UP. The cabin is quaint, very clean, has the feeling of the northwoods and is just steps away from an amazing beach. You can see the sunrise and sunset - walk three miles along the bay (round trip) and see just a handful of people. Chris provides everything - from towels and firewood - to frosted mugs in the freezer!

A+ Vacay!

I told my husband that I wished I would have recorded our entry into the CUTEST cabin ever! Beautiful Beach

We had a great time at the beach house. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. We loved the covered porched and spent many hours just staring at Lake Superior from it. A great place to decompress.
