The secluded 4-acre property is equidistance (30 minutes) between the small towns of Blue Ridge and Ellijay where you will find a number of things to do year round! Plentiful walking/biking trails, waterfalls, tubing, and white water rafting, quaint shops and downtown eateries, multiple vineyards, and local arts & crafts. Festivals are held year-round and are fun for all ages. Fishing, Biking, 4-wheeling adventures await. A SUV or 4 wheel vehicle is recommended, but not required. The road up to the cabin can be difficult in heavy rain or snow/ice. The drive up is definitely worth the humps & bumps when you get here! Plan ahead and stop at one of the food/supply stores on your way in, as it is about 20-25 minutes from the cabin once there. Your Holiday Story Begins Here — at The Little Dipper at The CampAway
Perched atop Wallace Mountain, The Little Dipper is a storybook studio cabin made for cozy winter escapes. Nestled on four private acres with its own creek and direct access to the national forest, this peaceful retreat feels worlds away — yet you’re just a short scenic drive from Ellijay and Blue Ridge’s twinkling small-town festivities. Guests love the sense of calm here: forest views, quiet nights, and the feeling of being completely surrounded by nature.
Inside, the cabin keeps things simple — all the necessities, none of the fluff — blending vintage camp nostalgia with thoughtful comfort. It’s as connected as you can get to being unconnected. The well-stocked kitchen makes cooking a breeze, and guests often say it’s one of the cleanest, coziest cabins they’ve stayed in. After a day of exploring, unwind by the firepit, play camp games, or curl up in your lofted king-bed retreat under a blanket of stars.
Outside, follow the trail to your private creek, a favorite spot for both guests and their pups, or take a peaceful winter walk through your snow-dusted forest. When you’re ready for town, you’ll find apple cider, boutique shops, and festive lights just a short drive away in Ellijay or Blue Ridge.
✨ From Thanksgiving through New Year’s, The Little Dipper features light holiday décor — twinkling garlands, cozy blankets, and that unmistakable CampAway charm. Whether you’re roasting marshmallows by the fire, stargazing with your dog, or exploring nearby trails, The Little Dipper is your personal basecamp for holiday adventure and mountain calm.
Everything you need is within a 30-45 minute drive. Multiple shopping districts and excellent food options, and a new state-of-the-art Movie Theater, or if you want to stretch your legs a bit the Chattanooga area with all of its attractions are about 1.5 hours away, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park & Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area only 2.5 hours away. Cades Cove about 1.5 hours drive, the casinos in Cherokee, NC 1.5 hours. Closer to home take the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, ranked the 4th-best railway to enjoy the fall colors according to Country Living Magazine.
DOGS: Dogs are WELCOME! We love our fur babies, but this property allows a maximum of two dogs and the fee is $75 per stay. Please, clean paws only in the house and keep dogs off furniture. If you would like to snuggle with your dog on the couch, please bring a blanket to lay on the furniture. The pet policy is strictly enforced and an additional cleaning fee may be applied for excessive shedding.
DRIVING: Last 0.5 miles of road to cabin is unpaved and bumpy at times, very low riding vehicles are NOT recommended, 4 wheel drive preferred, 2 wheel front drive ok, large oversized vehicles are NOT a good idea.
STAIRS: The ladder style staircase is a fun “camping” experience but may not be suitable for everyone. Not ADA compliant, caution is required when using them. Sleeper sofa is available to sleep on downstairs.
CELL SERVICE: You will lose cell service approximately 15 minutes away from the cabin (based on carrier) with some random spots along the way. You can log into WiFi once in the cabins and enable WiFi calling and send/receive text messages and emails. Highly recommend printing driving directions to and from the cabin.
LOFTED BEDROOM: There are no walls or doors that separate the lofted sleeping area from the living space on the main floor. This cabin would not be suitable for guests who would like privacy in sleeping quarters. Would be ideal for a small family with kids older than 5 years old.
The CampAway is approximately 4 acres and houses two 1/bed 1/bath cabins - The Big Dipper Cabin and The Little Dipper Cabin. The cabins are connected via gravel driveways or hiking trails and are approximately 60 yards apart and separated by elevation and trees. Guests of both cabins have access to the Vandergriff Creek via hiking trails. The hike down to the creek from the cabins takes approximately 10-15 minutes via dirt and rock trails and should be a moderate hike for most children and adults. These are true hiking trails and may not be suitable for everyone. Being true mountain cabins, pests and bugs may sometimes make their way into the cabin even though we do spray and inspect monthly to keep them outside.
