The Space
Set on a single level and spanning roughly 1,500 sq ft, the home was thoughtfully renovated with groups in mind. A wide great room links the living area, dining table for ten, and fully outfitted chef's kitchen—so no one has to miss the conversation while someone cooks. Central A/C keeps things comfortable year-round, while a Sonos sound system and retro arcade cabinet dial the fun up a notch. Three smart TVs and a game console mean movie nights and game tournaments have a home here. Fast 400 Mbps Wi-Fi covers the whole house, and a dedicated desk handles video calls or remote work seamlessly.

Whether you're flipping pancakes or plating a private-chef dinner (ask about our add-on package), the kitchen has you covered: stainless steel appliances, gas range, dishwasher, rice maker, drip coffee maker, and a full complement of cookware, knives, and serving ware for feeding a crowd. A gas BBQ stands ready in the backyard, and extra bar seating keeps the chef company while you prep. The dining table seats ten comfortably indoors; the outdoor dining area accommodates up to 14, making alfresco dinners under café lights a real possibility.
Backyard Oasis
Slide open the French door and step into an outdoor playground made for California evenings. The stock-tank hot tub can be heated for a spa-like soak (note: it takes about an hour to heat up—plan ahead if you want hot water). A fire pit lounge area (the round black fire pits are operational; the square table pit is decorative only) gathers everyone for stories under the stars. Café lights overhead create the perfect ambiance for grilling dinner and dining alfresco. The fully fenced yard lets kids and well-behaved dogs roam safely, and sun loungers are available for daytime relaxation.

Good to Know
Quiet hours and San Diego Short-Term Rental Ordinance (STRO) rules are strictly observed. Small, cozy gatherings are always welcome; large parties are not permitted. This policy is monitored and enforced.
The stock-tank hot tub is not a jacuzzi. Plan to start the pump and heater about one hour before you want to use hot water.
Two decorative fire features—the indoor fireplace and the square table pit in the backyard—are non-operational. The round black fire pits are operational and can be used with firewood.

The house is beautiful and well appointed. Mursalin was very communicative and responded right away to requests. The neighborhood is pretty and is walkable to the hillcrest business district and a short drive to lots of fun san diego sites.

About the host
Hosted by Mursalin Habib
Now: We appreciate architecture, art, food and people. We think of vacations as oxygen and we think food is religion. We have been to 40+ countries and list is growing every year. Our mission to go to all the national parks in USA is on hold after the arrival of our little one, we shifted our attention to urban traveling and our little one has been to 20+ countries spanning three continents already.
Before: We moved about 13000 km from South Asia to East coast, then two years toiling in grad school, we moved another 4200km to San Diego to work in the high tech and called it our home. We lived most of our adult life in San Diego and moved to North park before it was cool. When our little one started taking over our cozy century old craftsman bungalow, we moved to Kensington in a 90 year old Spanish revival.
Why they chose this property
Spirited Hillcrest has got a lot going on. A highly walkable neighborhood, it’s lauded for its welcoming and friendly vibe. Just north of San Diego’s buzzy Downtown, this is the centre of the county, known for bustling bars. University Avenue is fringed with restaurants serving global cuisine, and the weekly Hillcrest Farmers Market sells flowers and fresh produce. The mix of cafes, breweries and vintage clothes shops on Fifth Avenue makes Hillcrest a popular weekend destination for visitors and locals alike. And there's no better spot for breakfast and brunch – streets here are lined with outdoor seating for lazy afternoons enjoying food and drink in the San Diego sunshine.
What makes this property unique
This home is the ideal place to stay for a group of friends or family looking to explore San Diego. It's just ten minutes by car from downtown and the world-famous San Diego Zoo and about a fifteen-minute drive from the beach. Style-wise, the design is influenced by mid-century modern – think Bauhaus and Rothko prints on the walls, a vinyl record player in the lounge, and a retro gaming console in the third bedroom. Outside, a private patio creates the perfect setting to relax and unwind after your adventures. The cherry on top is the heated stock tank pool, great for a sunset dip.
