Check in process was very smooth. The property is spacious and the lake access is great. The kitchen was also well stocked with pots and dishes and even had some spices and essentials.

Great Place!

Maters Retreat house is super cute and was perfect for our group. A cozy atmosphere on a small beautiful lake with a newly renovated upper floor. Snowmobile trails are nearby but decent amount of snow is needed on the main road to get to them. Great place to stay!

Beautiful lake, cabin, and area!

We returned this year, as this is such a beautiful cabin and peaceful lake! So many sites to see around the area or relax swimming, fishing, kayaking, and sitting by the bonfire! Our family was able to have our pup with us, kayaks and a row boat were supplied. The washer/dryer and dishwasher were so helpful! Check in was easy and our preteen kiddos had wifi for gaming after enjoying nature. We loved our time here and highly recommend it!

Perfect setting.

This was a lovely space perfect for our older kids family. Loved the 3 bedrooms with queen beds. The living space and kitchen were all that we needed. We enjoyed the dock and the use of the kayaks and row boat. A very pretty place on a quiet lake with lots of wildlife. Close enough to Munising for groceries and restaurants and all of the Pictured Rock area. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Perfect quiet cabin

Very clean and well maintained. It’s a perfect scenic 20min drive from Munising / Pictured Rocks. The kids loved chasing the chipmunks and playing on the dock. Very quiet didn’t hear anything other then a passing car or pontoon boat. Will definitely be coming back next year for our Pictured Rocks vacation.

Nice Cabin

As advertised! We stayed on a chilly spring weekend and used the cabin as a base for exploring Pictured Rocks and Hiawatha National Forest. Cabin was clean and comfortable. It would be a great place to stay in the summer and take advantage of the lake as well. We did get to use the fire pit one evening. Overall it was everything we were hoping for.

Cozy and peaceful, with lake views and stars on a clear night!

My husband and I just spent a week here it was clean, beds were comfy, the place has everything you need and well stocked with towels and supplies. We didn’t have any issues with Wi-Fi and our cell service was surprisingly better than we expected. The lake view was beautiful, and we loved looking at the stars on the clear nights. So peaceful out there so it was exactly what we wanted. Drive to Munising wasn’t bad either! We will be back to visit this place!!

Super Clean !!!

We had a very peaceful time at the cabin. Nicely secluded & enjoyed our meals outside on the deck. Cabin is very clean upon arrival, bed comfortable. Loved having the windows open, nice breeze thru the house. I would like to suggest a few things needed for kitchen, cutting board, sharp knives. Thank you for sharing your home with us !!!

It was a nice place. It was clean. Had everything we needed.

We had a lot of fun during our week stay. Our 2 sons loved that the lake was small enough they could take the kayaks out themselves to fish. It was pretty good fishing for a smaller lake. The kids enjoyed swimming. It was a very clear lake. We had a question about some supplies and emailed the owners and they responded very quickly where we could find what we needed. We really enjoyed our stay. ❤️

Good place to stay. Close to the snowmobile trails.

Clean, and kept. Everything you'd need for a couple days of sledding. Close to the trails. Camel Riders Restaurant is nearby (call for reservations). Wifi is fast, but cell service is horrible (the UP in general falls into that category). There is a house phone but it only dials local. Would stay again.

Lovely Lake Retreat

This home was the perfect lake getaway for our family. The home was clean, well-maintained and just the right size for our family. We used the provided kayaks to explore the lake. The grill came in handy for dinner and the fire pit was perfect for roasting s'mores. Two convenience markets are close by and the town is a short drive to mini-golf, restaurants and sightseeing adventures. We were only there for 2 nights but our family could easily spend a week. If you're looking for a quiet getaway to recharge but also be able to access creature comforts, this is the place for you. My only feedback would be that the directions were a little confusing when finding the house. The gas station name changed (from Holliday to Circle K) and the turn off for the home is about 2 miles past the first convenience market. Overall, we had a great time. Looking forward to planning our next trip there!

Remote Getaway

The property was clean, remote, and perfect for our family. The location was great for getting to Pictured Rocks and hiking spots in the UP, but also very remote so you can get away from it all. It was great being able to use the boats, fire pit, and grill on the property. The only thing I would caution against is coming here in the winter, the driveway isn’t paved so it would be difficult to get your car in and out of the driveway. Also, we didn’t receive our rental email, when I called Freshwater Rentals they said Gmail emails had been going to spam so I wish they would’ve called and let me know this since they could see I have a gmail account. It had important information for locating the house (signage could be better) and other check-in details especially since we didn’t get service anywhere in the UP.

Quick Stay

We only stayed 2 nights but it is a beautiful location off the beaten path and it is as advertised. Very well maintained. Property managers responded very quickly to any questions and also let us know we could check in a few hours early. As they noted, Verizon had zero service but had no issues with wifi. Would definitely stay again.
