Just like the photos. Wonderful place. I enjoyed the history of the house from the blue binder. As a note, within walking distance to local farmer's market!

We could not have stayed at a better place then this incredible home. This was the perfect place to celebrate our 10th wedding Anniversary. I am quite sure that we will stay here again.
What a truly unique stay!! We loved the history of the home, the location, the historic but absolutely relevant energy of the home. We will definitely be back!!
This apartment is in a historic house and is so cool - the architecture and decor work so well together. Four balconies, including one with ocean views that is large enough for loungers and a fountain. Easy walking distance to PCH, and nice walking distance to the Strand and the harbor. Loved it all!

the property is well maintained, beautiful view, quiet and good parking.
I am disabled and there were 20 steep stairs that were very difficult to negotiate, both up and down. I almost fell 3 times. Taking the luggage up and down was an intense chore.
This is an adorable historic property that is just stunningly perfect. Clean, full to the brim of character, with all sorts of thoughtful, cute touches. The neighborhood is quiet and you feel like you're in another world. I cannot say enough great things about this place. If you're looking for something different, something not another boring hotel room, and if you love history and character and thoughtful places, this is for you. Everything, top to bottom, was perfect. Exceeded my expectations 1000%. Thank you for such an awesome experience.

Mostly pleasant
Decor was pretty cool and it was staged nicely; however, not the cleanest upon arrival (dusty, hair in shower, etc). The hot water was virtually absent from the kitchen sink (low water pressure) and, while the outside amenities (balcony, etc) was nice, the incessant construction across the way didn't improve the atmosphere. Overall, a decent stay - if cleaner and without the construction.

Didn't meet expectations
The Good: Property was mostly as advertised--well-stocked kitchen, balconies, and ocean in the distance visible via binoculars and through the trees. We appreciated the close proximity to town and activities.
The Bad: We weren’t fans of the dusty décor or spent candles supposedly offering “romantic” ambience. Extremely dim lighting that is ironic considering the blazing lights in the photos on the website. Two standing lights in the living room did not work, and the overhead light was terribly dim. Bedroom lights were equally dim or not functioning. There is no functioning exterior light at the door to the unit (at least not one we found), so thank goodness for a flashlight on the smartphone! If you go out at night, keep the light on in the stairwell so you don’t stumble up the stairs. Speaking of stairs, those decorative pots are a safety hazard, particularly when bringing luggage up and down the stairs. Cable TV and Internet weren’t working all weekend. John showed up to check on it, called the cable company, but they couldn’t do anything in a timely manner. It was an irritation that we handled. Most tenants would appreciate more than two washcloths per stay, and one roll of single-ply TP for four days was super stingy! They should stock toilet paper and tissue at the unit. They should also either replace all the used toiletries procured from their own hotel stays or dump them. The bed needs a king-sized comforter instead of a queen that doesn’t fit. They could use some nicer pillows. Several on the bed were flat and spent.
The Ugly: No air-conditioning!!!! Despite the claim that adding AC takes away from the historic charm of the building, if they have heat, they can install AC. We noticed a space heater in the closet indicating some tenants must need it in the winter. The owners should be as thoughtful for tenants in the summer/fall and provide either a standing fan or install a ceiling fan in the bedroom. We stayed four nights, and two were utterly miserable. There were no ocean breezes offering any relief during those two nights. I don't think our expectations are too high, and for this price, we deserve a good night's sleep on a comfortable bed.
Bottom line: We won’t be returning.
What a wonderful stay we had in Dana Pt. and a big part of that was our VRBO. It was the first time we've ever used VRBO and it was a positive experience. The pictures and description of the property are 100% accurate and the host was very accommodating and answered all our questions (though we didn't have many) and the arrival/departure process was seamless. It really felt like our home away from home for three days. The place was clean, organized and had everything we needed in the kitchen/bedroom/living room/bathroom. Our favorite spot on the property had to be the balcony. Nothing better than sipping on a cup coffee out on the lanai as we planned our day. Another thing that was striking was how quiet and charming the neighborhood was as well as how close to grocery store, restaurants/bars and the Lantern District. All within walking distance and only a 5-minute car ride to Strands Beach Parking. Such a pleasant stay that we both agreed we'd be back and when we do, we will likely stay here again.
This was a darling and comfy cottage! The decor & architecture inside and out was classic nostalgic Southern California with a taste of California's historic connections to Mexico. We loved the decor and all the little nooks! The location was very convenient - we were able to easily get to all of our venues in San Clemente, Laguna and Dana Point. Our only criticisms were the lack of parking in the evening and we thought a box of kleenex would be nice. We were also a bit disappointed that the front balcony fountain was not in working order. Other than those things, the property had everything we needed and we would definitely stay again.
Great location in a quiet residential area. The space was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was the perfect spot for a couple’s getaway in OC. Would definitely recommend
This house is so unique! Very comfortable, loved spending time on the balconies. Lots of stairs, but well worth the views. Everything is walkable from this place with lots of restaurants and activities nearby. Just a note that they do not provide any reserved parking - you are in your own with whatever street parking is available, which can be challenging on busy weekends.
While the inside of this property was a complete delight, the outside structure was in need of some renovation. That didn’t bother me, but I understood that there would be a renovation soon. Hopefully , that will go quickly so that this magical property can be enjoyed again very soon.
Really enjoyed this property. More interesting than basic furniture with Spanish influence in a quiet neighborhood with ocean views and breezes.
Property exceeded our expectations and was such a wonderful place to stay.
Two items to be aware of
1) must be comfortable with stairs
2) street parking - wasn’t a problem except needed to be aware of street sweeping schedule
Easy check in and check out. Was very pleased with this historic property that was built by the same person who built the Hollywood sign!

Historic Home
This property is very unique, beautiful grounds, perfect location, lovely covered porch and antiques to enjoy. But for a 60+ couple is was too difficult to manuver the 2 flights of steep stairs for 11 days, hoping for on the street parking nearby each day especially on street cleaning days, the lighting is extremely poor throughout the unit, had an old museum smell with no window screens to open up for a breeze and was expecting a few more updates. The manager accommodated us by providing more towels. Could be a nice experience for a younger couple for just a few days!
This 1920's upstairs apartment is spacious with nice outdoor porches having a sea view. Gas fireplace is great.
The neighborhood is close to the harbor (5 min drive) and a great base to explore the good restaurant options in Dana Point Lantern district.
I won’t spoil the history of the property but it was very cool! The king size bed was so comfortable I want to buy one for my home. Modern kitchen with a brew coffee maker. If you arrive at night, it’s a little dark in the lantern district, use your phone flashlight. Host was very responsive to questions. Walking distance to Saturday market, harbor, and lots of restaurants. This is our second stay on Violet Lantern and can’t wait to come again

This property has a lot of character and is in a good location. It's a nicely decorated, roomy one-bedroom upstairs apartment. Our only caution would be for older or sight compromised renters--the outside stairs, which could use better lighting, make a sharp turn halfway up without a landing that might be troublesome for some renters. But overall, this was a lovely rental.
