About this property

Isolated Log Cabin with Panoramic Views of Cherry Pond and White Mountains

Fantastic place to escape into the woods, with panoramic views, closest house is a 1/2 mile away.

Almost new Log Cabin, just finished in 2017 on 34 acres with 1200 ft driveway provides privacy and fantastic views of Cherry Pond and from Mt Waumbek to Vermont. The Property abuts the White Mountain National Forest and you can hike out the top of the property to Owls Head and Mt Martha which is about 3.0 miles one way and 1600 ft of elevation change. Owls Head offers fantastic views of the entire presidential range.

The 1st floor bedroom has a queen bed, and the living area has a full size sleeper sofa. All mattresses are new memory foam mattresses. There is a storage loft that is accessed by a ladder, not stairs, so it is not appropriate for children under 5 or people unable to climb a ladder. The Cabin is off the electric grid with solar panels and batteries. One full bathroom with shower and an outdoor shower. My cleaner is phenomenal and the cabin is sanitized every time after each guest.

Fantastic covered screened in porch to enjoy the views and there is a Pavilion covering the fire pit area with picnic table that also has fantastic views. Cell phone reception is very good with Verizon and there is 4G and LTE service. The cabin does not have WIFI or a TV, dishwasher, or laundry. It is meant as a getaway and to get unplugged. During the day, the view is incredible and at night the stars are amazing with almost no light pollution.

Restaurants and towns are at least 15 minutes away on some of the most scenic roads in New England. Lancaster is 15 minutes, Bretton Woods is 15 min, Bethlehem is 20 min, Gorham is 21 min, and Littleton is 27 minutes. The journey is half the fun with many view points and activities outside of towns.

In the winter season, it is recommended to have AWD or 4WD vehicles as the driveway is about 1200 ft long uphill with a 10% slope.

Since I like to use the cabin a lot myself throughout the year, no monthly or seasonal rental is possible.

Solo Retreat

Wonderful place to take a four day solo retreat.Comfortable with beautiful views, day and night, sunny or storming (rain, snow & freezing rain) - I experienced it all and enjoyed every minute of the "long long (but too short) weekend.""... And rising very early in the morning (Jesus) departed and went to an ISOLATED place, and there He prayed." Gospel of Mark 1: 35

Getaway Without Kids

This property was exactly what we were looking for in our getaway without our kids! The place was very clean and exactly like the listing said it would be. The views from the porch were simply amazing and we loved being so close to so many hiking trails. We enjoyed the simplicity of being able to relax, read, and play games without any interruptions.

Great quiet mountain retreat

Our family stayed in this sweet cabin for a few days of hiking. Sadly, the weather didn't agree with our plans, but our time in the cabin was just what we hoped it would be. It comfortably fit our family of 5 and we truly enjoyed the unplugged time.

Great Hiking Home Base

I took my son and nephews hiking in the wonderful White Mountains. This great mountain cabin was just what we needed. It was just the type of cabin we were looking for; rustic feeling, but still comfortable; centrally located to all our hikes, towns, and restaurants, but remote and off the grid. We enjoyed the fire pit, laughed a lot, and made some fantastic memories. This cabin was part of those memories and I'm very grateful. Thank you Ben!

A piece of heaven

It was very quiet and the views were remarkable. Loved having a cup coffee on the enclosed deck. Which bybthe way it was a big plus. The sunset was beautiful. You can get a nice view of it feom the front porch. Many things to see and they are all close to the cabin. Loved it.

Isolated but not too isolated

Great place to get away from the distractions in life. Best to get off your phone and enjoy nature. Beautiful views sitting on porch or in rocking chair waiting for the sunrise. There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area, especially if you love the outdoors.

We like places away from the crowds. This was it. No one was close at all. Google even had a bit of problem finding the exact location (Apple maps didn't have a problem for a change). Off the grid. Electricity was from solar panels. If you like isolation, you will like this. We did.Great view from the porch. Lots of mountains in the distance. At night, open dark skies to the north and above (we actually watched a great display of the Northern Lights while we were there). Loved the alcove in the forest for a campfire. Table and chairs and firewood. Even roasting forks. Flashlights in the cabin.Easy to go in various direction to site see. We went to Mt. Washington. Also the Franconia Notch State Park state park was pretty close as well. Towns like Littleton are recommended as well. I believe all of these were an easy 30 minutes away in different directions. The place really is in the center of things. There is no place just on the corner to eat, but Whitefield, was only 10 minutes away. It has limited facilities like a grocery store, Dollar General, Dunkins (with very poor service), and a couple of small eating places. There are larger towns about 30 minutes away with lots of restaurants and shopping. Not much in the way of cons. Lighting felt dim, but adequate. In spite of feeling in the wilderness, there is actually a bit of road noise in the distance. Not terrible, but noticeable. Property sits on a pretty steep slope.A great place to visit.

Peaceful cozy mountain cabin

Peaceful Off grid cozy cabin with wonderful views. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the quiet ‘no tv’ atmosphere and plentiful nearby hiking trails. The cabin was very clean with sufficient amenities (we prepared and ate most of our meals in the cabin) and ample space for two people. We have visited the white mountains area for many years and enjoyed staying on the quieter side of the white mountains. I would highly recommend for those interested in a simple restful getaway surrounded by nature.

Nicer than the pictures

Perfect for exploring White Mountains. Clean, bed was very comfortable, blankets and towels too. Was nicer than the pictures. Only downside are the ticks. Wish it was more cut back along paths. Enjoyed the fire pit area. Relaxing and shielded us from the rain. The path to it could use some more wooden boards to cross some runoff water. Very peaceful too. Really enjoyed the cabin and all it had to offer.

This log cabin is absolutely pristine and in a tranquil, private setting. The craftsmanship of the cabin is gorgeous and it's absolutely clean and crisp in every way. We enjoyed making eggs, French toast and bacon every morning in the cast iron pan. We loved waking up to the gorgeous view. The location was close to all we wanted to do, the Kancamangus highway, hiking the presidentials and driving to the Mount Washington summit. There is no TV but we didn't need it one bit. Slept incredibly well in the comphy bed and linens Our phones got great data coverage. Be sure to read all the info about the cabin being off the grid so you know about the limited electricity. You cannot use a blow dryer or high voltage plug in. We would definitely stay here again.

Tucked away and glorious

Such a wonderful location and comfortable accommodations! Private, and yet sweeping views including the sunset. Some road noise, but it died down after dark, and the quiet was glorious. The screened-in porch with chairs was a favorite spot for us. Cell service was adequate, we didn't miss having wifi. The bed was comfy, we were able to cook in the kitchen, the wildflowers outside were lovely, and I'm curious about the recently planted fruit trees. Thank you for sharing this beautiful corner of the planet.

Beautiful Cabin

What a wonderful experience. Each morning coffee on the screened in porch. At night, watching the stars that seemed like you could touch them. Mt Washington was a short drive where we took cog railway to top. The cabin is perfect for anyone who wants to unwind and enjoy nature. Ben, thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin.

Beautiful secluded cabin but with everything you need to enjoy the mountains and recharge. The porch provides hours of peace and enjoyment just watching the views. My Side of The Mountain

In my opinion, this is the quintessential 'cabin in the mountains'. It has stunning views and gorgeous sunsets that can be enjoyed from the screened in porch. It's in the 'wild' (but not too far from attractions), and is the perfect place to 'disconnect' from the world and enjoy the North Country! Ben is a fantastic host, his cabin had everything we needed, and it is a very clean and well maintained property. We are all looking forward to coming back again!

The best cabin we have stayed at.

My wife and I have been staying at various cabins in and around NH for a number of years. We like to find places in close proximity to the White Mountains for hiking. Ben’s place is exactly the spot we have been looking for for years. It checked every box, close to the whites, attractions and great places to eat within a short driving distance. The cabin was super clean, private and comfortable. We loved ot and can’t wait to go back.

About the host

Host profile image
Avid Hiker, which is what brought me to this property after hiking in the White Mountains for 25 years. Purchased the 17 acres of land six years ago and built the cabin in 2017 on weekends while camping on site. I like to refer to the property as My Side of the Mountain, because of the young adult book by the same name.

Why they chose this property

You are out in the middle of nature abutting the White Mountain National Forest with no neighbors within view and the closet one is about 0.4 miles.

This newly built cabin is 1200 feet up a gravel driveway and is off grid with a solar electric system with batteries. We have 12 volt LED lighting and AC power for the fridge, hot water heater and outlets. There are also USB charging stations for your phones and tablets. Cell phone reception is very good with Verizon and there is 4G and LTE service. The cabin does not have WIFI or a TV. It is meant as a getaway and to get unplugged. The cabin does have two propane direct vent heaters and a propane stove in the kitchen. The Kitchen does have an undercounter fridge, stove, and large sink, but does not have a dishwasher, microwave or coffee maker. We do have a teapot and french press. We also do not provide a hair dryer.

What makes this property unique

There are two mountain bikes, hiking poles, and snow shoes at the cabin. We also have the AMC guidebook and trail maps for the white mountains to borrow and return please. The 20 mile long Presidential Rail Trail bike path is about 1.5 miles from the cabin. There are binoculars, telescope, books, games, and lincoln logs for old and young to enjoy.
