Nice but needs updating
Very nice stay but THE most important issue that needs to be resolved is the horrible water. When taking a shower or brushing teeth the smell of the water was nauseating. This really put a damper on the stay. I would not recommend this place to anyone until a water filtration system is installed.

Friends and Family Gathering
Kel's home truly is one of a kind. Everyone in our group ranging in ages from 7 months old to 60 years old had a great time and there were plenty of beds, so everyone slept in a real bed. There is plenty of room to spread out and there are areas large enough for everyone to eat and play games. Kel was a great communicator before and during the trip. We enjoyed days at the beach, as well as, the lagoon area. Porpoises visited daily on the lagoon side. We have rented a lot of houses for our group on VRBO and this house had so many restrooms in addition to the outdoor showers, so plenty of optoins for everyone.

House is superb, location was excellent. Only area of concern was the water system. Need to install a filtration system to improve smell of water. House could improve in overall by cleaning decks and porches

A wonderful family experience!
We had our entire family all 12 of us at this property and Kel could not have possibly been any more professional and pleasant to work with. His beautiful house had plenty of room for all 6 adults with our own bedrooms and private baths. The 6 grandkids, 12-18 had lots and lots of room. The beach was beautiful with hardly anyone around. The golf cart was wonderful for carrying stuff to the beach and back. The pier was so much fun for the kids to fish and the Kayaks were wonderful for the kids. We took lots of sunset pictures down at the dock and made wonderful memories to last the rest of our lives. All of us wanted to stay longer and several of the grandkids actually asked me if they could stay more or certainly again. The "town" is a friendly small town where everybody seems to either know you or appears to know you. Very friendly. Thanks, Kel for a special vacation in your beautiful home. Every possible amenity was provided. Stay here once and you can't wait to stay again. A Highly Satisfied Customer Bob S.

Cancelled by host the day of check in
The rental was cancelled by the host on the morning of check in. We were in a hotel in Atlanta and received a message 8 hours prior to check in. His message said that he double booked and we should go on VRBO to find another rental. We had booked months in advance and had just communicated with him that week about renting his golf cart. We have rented through VRBO for years and have never experienced (or heard of others experiencing) this type of situation. The owner had a very cavalier attitude and seemed unconcerned by how this affected our family.

We really enjoyed our time at Gulf County. The home was clean and stocked with all the necessities. The views of the beach and the lagoon were beautiful. We even saw a dolphin up close from the dock. We also enjoyed the area restaurants and shops. We will definitely come back!

Great Location, Big House
Our family group of 12 (6 adults, 6 kids) recently stayed at this beach house for a week. We all had a fun week. The house has an eclectic collection of furniture and decor and honestly looked like the owner and his family just left and we moved in right after them. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, pots/pans, silverware, etc. The water filter to the refrigerator needed replacing however so we depended on bottled water for drinking for the entire week. The access to the beach is fantastic and at times it seemed we had the beach to ourselves, very nice! The kids (and the adults) spent much time in the water and enjoyed a bonfire one night at the beach. The back of the house faces the lagoon and the owner provided kayaks for our use, great fun! Try as we may, we couldn't get the gas grill to light although it appeared to be in good shape and in fact was new in March. There was a range of comments regarding bed comfort, the a/c provided ample cooling, the bedrooms were spacious. The one major drawback is the fact that the well water has a pungent sulfur odor, rotten egg smell. The well and piping need to be shocked with chlorine to knock the smell back. It detracts from what otherwise would be a fabulous property. All in all, the house location and access to a quiet beach with the number of amenities the owner provides makes this a fun vacation house

Great Time!
Great space for multiple couples! Our group loved the easy access to the bay and the ocean. Plenty of room for all our vehicles and our boat. Easy drive into Port St Joe if you want to go out to eat or shop and you’re still able to enjoy a secluded space to relax in. Loved our stay!!

A Thanksgiving Blessing
My entire family stayed here for Thanksgiving, and everyone enjoyed the experience. We all want to return in the summer and possibly again for Thanksgiving. The home was perfect for a large-sized family with plenty of room for lounging around and for activity. The owner was helpful and thoughtful in preparing for us. We'd definitely stay here again.

Inside was beautiful, view was lovely
1st and 2nd floor was absolutely beautiful, the 3rd floor was a little musty but nice in decor. The beds were comfortable and the amount of bathrooms to bedrooms were so convenient. The dock at the bay was nice for family fishing and a day at the beach was conveniently across the street for easy enjoyment. We wish the backyard wasn't so saturated and the front and back porch were pressure washed but a little elbow grease we got the screened in porch to our liking. All in all the inside was perfect for what we envisioned the vacation to be.

Wish We Were There !
We had a wonderful time on our vacation in Port Saint Joe . The house is spacious and comfortable with large spaces to be together and with many areas to get some alone time . The beautiful sound at the back of the house and the beach in the front are a treasure to enjoy . We were sad to leave and all of us are missing this unique vacation retreat . The owner , Kel Long , was gracious and accommodating and we appreciated his efforts to make sure we had a great vacation !

Secluded Gem
We had a group of 17 stay at the house with plenty of space. The flat backyard is perfect for outdoor games. We set up a volleyball net and still had tons of space. Our fishermen caught lots of fun interesting creatures off of the dock at the bay and we enjoyed the kayaks back there as well. The beach is quiet and you have your own space. Many friends had been to nearby beaches and said they were packed in like sardines. We had the beach practically to ourselves! The owner, Kel, was very easy to contact and took care of any issues we had immediately. We will definitely go back to the same spot again!! The nearby Indian Pass raw bar is a must!!

Incredible place to stay!
This was a perfect getaway for all of us. It was a very relaxing time. You are comfortable here because this is a family home just made to experience good times with those you love. If you are considering a trip to the beach, this is a beautiful location with a pier in the back and the beach in the front. This home is great for a large group. The kitchen is great and well-stocked with basics. You can tell the family who owns it enjoys their times together here. You won't be disappointed if you rent this home.!

Beach Trip 2021
Our time in Port Saint Joe was great! The house was so spacious. We were able to relax and enjoy our own space while in the house. We had the best of both worlds - the beach in front of the house and the bay in the backyard. The only thing I wished we could have done was put our boat and jet skis in at the house and utilize the owner’s dock (which was AMAZING) - the water was just too shallow. There was a boat ramp at the end of Indian Pass road which was only a short distance away. The golf cart was an added bonus … it was nice driving it to our set up on the beach everyday. Kel was wonderful to work with!

Such a great vacation!
We had a party of 15 that stayed at the home and there was plenty of space for everyone. The home was even more beautiful than the pictures online. I loved the Port St. Joe area and the Indian Pass Raw Bar right up the road was a great place to eat with the whole family and lots of laid back fun. I would recommend renting this property. Annual family beach trip
The house was large with enough space to both get together with the entire family [11 + dogs] or get away from the family. The back screened porch was a wonderful place for cocktail hour and also for watching TV. The boat dock and the beach gazebo also were used a lot.

WONDERFUL
The property/estate is enormous. It would take a TEAM to keep up with immaculate cleaning constantly, so, our family has rated cleanliness as 5 star with the understanding that it was as perfectly clean as possible! If, like some previous reviewers, you are looking for sterile hotel conditions, rather than a comfortable home in the midst of gorgeous beach and lagoon living, this is not for you. If you are looking to have an amazing stay with the foundations to make thousands of great memories, then, THIS is your place. The kitchen was VERY amply stocked, as were all necessary paper goods throughout the house. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept great. The sulphur water smell may be a turnoff for some (we have a ranch house on well water we go to sometimes, so it did not disturb us). There was more than enough space for everyone in this home, which was helpful on a couple of poor weather days. Most of our time was spent enjoying the outdoors. Kayaks and dock were great. We loved seeing porpoises in the lagoon feeding, eagles in the trees watching over the lagoon, and the beach set up was fabulous. Rent the golf cart!! We were two adults, 4 teenaged boys staying there. We also utilized the property manager to pre-shop for us since we were driving in from OK. She also catered three incredible meals for us that were FABULOUS. This was truly a wonderful getaway and perfect first vacation in over a year for us. We were fully able to continue being safe from covid as well as enjoy every bit of rest and relaxation with the kids. BOOK IT.

NOT YOUR AVG RENTAL PROPERTY
Absolutely lovely home on beach and bay. This is not your typical rental home, its MUCH better! The owner obviously lives in this home part time; the furniture is nice, beds comfortable, kitchen is complete with quality items you'd expect at your own home (like sharp knives), and the home was spotless. The owner was courteous, genuinely interested that everything was clean and ready for our arrival... and it was. Would not hesitate to recommend to families with children. We have rented for years in Destin and St George, this house is our new favorite. We will be back.

Perfectly private
Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The house is an older home but absolutely beautiful! The property provided everything we needed and wanted. We would love to go back again. A few things that we discovered. 1. The porches were very dusty and dirty but with a little sweeping or blowing off they were fine. 2. We found 2 large open cookies under the master bed. Some snacks under the porch table but again with a little more cleaning no big deal. 3. The water at the house was very sulfurous and smelled HORRIBLE so if you stay BRING BOTTLE WATER to cook with and drink. 4. Renting the golf cart is a MUST. 5. Beach cabana was fantastic but 1 bed in the sand was broken. 5. There were 4 kayaks but only 3 paddles 6. NEED BUG SPRAY! 7. Showers are very small 8. There’s a new General Store at the beginning of Indian Pass that has any last minute things you may need. We found them when we were leaving. 9. Bottom step on the stairs at the carport is broken and VERY dangerous. 10. You couldn’t turn on the lights at the dock.

About the host

Hosted by Kel Long

Host profile image
My name is Kel Long - I am a lawyer in Atlanta and also live a lot of the year at 837. I designed and built the house in 2000. I have not rented the house to the public before now, but instead it was only used by family and friends. We are now traveling more and the house is not being used, thus I am renting it to the public for the first time. Because of the personal nature of the home to my family we will be selective in who we rent to and we expect and hope that: 1) that you will take care of it and treasure it as we do and 2) that you will create great family memories there as we have over the years. There is no other place like Indian Pass and I think you will agree that 837 is a unique and special home.
