Experience winter in North Pole, Alaska — with Northern Lights always visible right from the property, Christmas lights glowing outside, and your own Arctic Spa waiting on the porch.

THIS IS A HOST-OCCUPIED HOME - NOT AN ENTIRE -HOME RENTAL
You are booking one or two private guest bedrooms and a private guest bathroom inside our home. The kitchen, living room and other common areas are shared when hosts are present.

The Red Door Residence is an owner-occupied homestay offering two private queen bedrooms and a private guest bathroom upstairs. We host only one travel party at a time, so you will never share your stay with another guest booking and you also do not share your bathroom with the hosts!

Your hosts live in the home and are available when you need them, while guests have their own private bedrooms and bathroom and full use of the shared living, dining and kitchen areas.

Your winter stay:
After a day exploring Alaska, warm up in the Arctic Spa, relax in the living room, your bedroom or step outside and watch the sky for the Aurora Borealis. Upon request your hosts will light a campfire to keep you warm while watching the Aurora or prepare the Arctic Spa for you to enjoy.

Load and start the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Prior to departure pls do collect all used linens in your room. Strip off any used beds and gather all towels from the bathroom and drop them on top of the bed for collection by your host.
Remove all dishes, cups, trash ec. from the rooms. Remove any leftovers from the kitchen - including the refrigerator, freezer and cabinets.
Pls do not leave your shampoos, soaps ec. in the bathroom or the rooms. Pls take it with you or throw it away.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Laundry: Washer and dryer are provided for reasonable personal use. Excessive use, incl. 3 plus loads per stay, may result in additional charge.
Arctic Spa: Optional use limited to registered guests of the booking. Pls follow the posted spa safety and operating instructions.
No parties/events . Common areas( kitchen ec. ) are for reasonable personal use. Pls clean up after yoruself and leave shared areas as you found them.

We had a wonderful stay at the North Pole. We were a little surprised that we had to share the home with the owner during our time. However, he was a gracious host and even did the dishes. Definitely would return for another trip.

This is a live in house, there are 3 people who lives there, really awkward, no privacy, you are renting a bedroom and bathroom, you don't have the whole house to yourself

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify this for future guests. The Red Door Residence is explicitly described in our listing and in our “About Us” section as an owner-occupied homestay, not an entire-home rental. Guests book private guest bedrooms and a private guest bathroom within our home; the common areas are shared when hosts are present. We host only one traveling party at a time. We are therefore sorry that this accommodation format did not meet your expectations, although it is clearly disclosed before booking. We were however under the impression that the two of you were quiet comfortable during your stay with us. We would also like to clarify that the statement that three people were living at the property during your stay does not reflect the actual circumstances. Patricia was not at the property when you arrived and only came a couple of days later for a brief visit to take care of business matters. We appreciate your feedback and hope this clarification helps future guests determine whether an owner-occupied homestay is the right type of accommodation for them. We are also sorry to find that the type of listing - which we are not able to influence - is misleading customers and causes us to be down-rated.

Although we thought we were going to be in the house by ourselves instead of a shared living situation, everything was great! The host was very accommodating- the house was very clean- we had everything we needed! I suggest Expedia or vrbo change the description to specifically say “ shared living”.

Sincere appreciation and excellent hospitality provided by Our hosts Richard, Patricia and Raphael Thompson. We were 2 disabled individuals who were completely supported various activities within the North Pole and Fairbanks area. We were treated like family members and any situation that arose was effectively taken care of immediately.

Very clean. Quiet from outside noise, but inside, the floors-2 stories- were very squeaky.Beware the wording in the listing: “2 private rooms.” This rental is a shared living space with 2 men.

Our listing is for private bedrooms in a shared home, not for exclusive use of the entire property This information is clearly stated in the listing description, and we encourage all guests to review the details before booking to ensure the accommodation is the right fit for their needs. Kathy booked for two guests but later requested that a third person stay in the home. We offered an additional private room for a small extra charge, but the third guest ultimately stayed in the living-room. During the stay, there was also extensive use of the washing machine for a large amount of laundry. We are sorry to hear that the stay did not meet expectations. .We strive to provide a welcoming experience for all of our guests. We appreciate all feedback and will continue to do our best to provide a comfortable stay for our guests.

Hello, we are Richard and Patricia and we are looking forward to welcoming you in our home.
We have been affiliated with the US-Army our whole married life up until now. So traveling and meeting lots of people is part of our family-culture - so to speak. We have four children who by now have children of their own and live in Germany. Which makes us "the traveling grandparents " taking care of our house back in Germany while visiting our kids -and their kids - on the go. We take turns doing so. Either Richard or Patricia will welcome you at "the Red" - and we will help you with any issues or questions you might have.

Why they chose this property

" TheRed"- how we call it- was love at first sight.
The Red Door is only one of the charming details of our house, which is right around the corner of Santa Clause House.
The cozy interior with its wooden ceiling and the roofed patio and the large private backyard with lots of trees made this the perfect home for us.
We also fell in love with the peaceful charm, crisp air, and northern magic of this place — and we’re excited to share it with you!

What makes this property unique

It has a special charme, looks great on pictures and our backyard is one of the great locations to view the Northern Lights as well as to spot alaskan wildlife.
With some luck one will be able to have breakfast while enjoying the view of a moose, ptarmigans or a bald eagle in our backyard. You do not need to step outside in the cold to view the Aurora :-) just look outside the windows ..
