House is beautiful, great patio right next to the river with a very spacious back year and view of the mountain. The river is right by and you can hear it at night from open bedroom window. Hiking trail to town is very pleasant. Super quiet area. You do have some road noise but it does down later in the evening.House is well appointed with very nice appliances and grill. The only minor complaints is lack of smaller whiskey or shot glasses, but other than that we did not miss anything.

We’re disappointed to see such a low rating, especially without any explanation. The only communication we had from you was prior to your stay, when you requested an additional discount. Since we were unable to provide that—given that this is one of our prime homes during high season—we can only assume that may be the reason for your review. During your time in the house, we received no complaints or concerns, which makes this rating feel especially unfortunate. If there was truly an issue that warranted such a low score, we would appreciate your feedback so we can address it for future guests.
About the host
Hosted by Laura K. Benton
Mountain Adventure Retreats was founded on a deep-rooted passion for the San Juan Mountains and a shared commitment to excellence in hospitality and property care. The venture began in 2013, sparked by Laura’s long-standing love for Ouray County. A lifelong Coloradan who first discovered the Ridgway and Ouray area in 2001, Laura brought with her an extensive background in business, marketing, and travel management. Her years of experience in the ski and property management industries across North America’s premier destinations provided the foundation for a company built on community and exceptional service.
In 2020, the team expanded when Steve moved from Dallas to join Laura in Ouray County. Steve’s arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter for the company, bringing forty-three years of high-level construction management experience to the team. Having served as Vice President for some of the nation’s top General Contractors, he integrated professional expertise in budgeting, procurement, and project oversight into the company ’s property maintenance and caretaking operations. His own connection to the state dates back to 1993, when participating in Ride the Rockies ignited a lifelong passion for Colorado’s dramatic landscapes.
Today, Laura and Steve work side-by-side to lead a dedicated team of professionals focused on delivering top-tier property care. When they aren't overseeing the finer details of a guest's stay or maintaining local residences, they are often found embracing the outdoors together. Whether they are cycling, skiing, hiking, or fishing, they remain inspired by the ever-changing seasons and the rugged beauty of the San Juan Mountains.
Why they chose this property
This particular enclave was chosen for its rare balance of secluded serenity and premier accessibility. Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac, the location serves as a high-end, welcoming retreat where the rhythmic sounds of the adjacent river provide a natural soundtrack for relaxation. Being positioned directly on the Riverwalk allows for an effortless connection to the outdoors, ensuring that a peaceful escape always feels intimately connected to the heart of the community.
A significant part of the draw is the town of Ouray itself, which is renowned for its exceptionally warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is a community that embraces visitors with genuine hospitality, making it the perfect backdrop for an alpine sanctuary. The neighborhood offers a front-row seat to the dramatic seasonal shifts of the San Juan Mountains, from the vibrant, wildflower-laden summers and the gold-dusted transitions of autumn to the pristine, snow-capped quiet of a high-country winter. Each season brings its own distinct beauty, ensuring that the residence remains an inviting destination throughout the year.
What makes this property unique
What truly distinguishes this property within Ouray County is the rare combination of direct waterfront access and modern loft architecture in a region dominated by historic Victorian homes and traditional mountain cabins. While many local stays offer mountain views, very few provide the "Riverfront Dream" experience—where the serene Uncompahgre Riverwalk serves as your literal backyard, offering miles of level, scenic paths right from the doorstep.
Beyond its enviable location, the property stands out for its versatile, group-focused design. In a market where high-capacity lodging is often limited to older estates, this residence offers a "sophisticated alpine" alternative. The integration of a chef’s kitchen, a monumental stone fireplace, and a flexible loft with a Murphy bed allows it to pivot seamlessly from a high-end retreat for couples to a spacious hub for large groups or multi-generational families.
Finally, its position on a private cul-de-sac provides a level of quietude and ample manicured parking that is exceptionally rare for properties so close to the heart of Ouray. It offers the best of both worlds: the peace of a secluded mountain sanctuary with the convenience of being just a short, scenic stroll from the town's welcoming shops, restaurants, and world-famous hot springs.
