Enjoy the peace of the woods just 5 minutes from downtown Grand Marais! The Camper Cabin at Basecamp du Nord offers a rustic basecamp for your North Shore adventure. Like most traditional camper cabins, we provide a warm, dry place to sleep and relax, share a board game or a meal. There is no running water or kitchen, but a grill and fire pit are provided for guests. A clean and well-lit outhouse is located near the cabin. Some drinking water is provided but we recommend you bring additional water. Showers are available at the local YMCA for $13 or at the municipal campground in Grand Marais. The Camper Cabin DOES have electricity and heat. We like to compare our experience to camping but with a solid roof over your head and a comfy bed. Guests must bring their own linens.

The cabin is adorable. Very clean and efficiently planned out. Even the outhouse was very clean and modern. The host was very prompt in responding to a question we had upon arrival. If you like a little bit of rustic away from town, you won’t be disappointed.

My stay was wonderful. It was so dark at night and so quiet. I saw the Northern Lights and a shooting star while sitting on the deck.
The cabin was very clean, neat and cozy. The bathroom was clean and I was happy to find out that it had lights.
It was close to town but felt like it was miles away. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed our weekend here. Quiet and secluded, but still very close to Grand Marais. A path just outside accesses a whole network of trails, we hiked to Pincushion Mountain. And the SHT connects here as well if you want to go further. The furnishings are simple in a very nice way; a folding table with two folding chairs, an electric kettle and a mini fridge are great for morning coffee or simple meals. The only thing we would have changed would be trading the two twin beds for a single 2-person bed, but that's preference. Great place, will stay again.

I have lived in Grand Marais for over 10 years. I work as as environmental scientist and I love spending time outdoors. I have spent countless hours exploring the forests and waters of Cook County. In 2016 I met my husband, Keith, who had just purchased a vacant motel in Grand Marais. Together we completely renovated the space and have been renting Basecamp Bungalows since 2018. We also got married, and had two children! Our newest venture, Basecamp du Nord, combines our experience providing 5-star stays in Grand Marais, with our passion for the outdoors. We hope you can see and appreciate the time and attention we have spent in creating a unique and memorable experience for our guests.
