About this property

3-bedroom bungalow very near downtown and walking distance to VT

Please consider our home your home away from home while you visit Blacksburg. Our home has cats, dogs, and parrots. It has pet hair. It will be throughly cleaned before your arrival, it will still have pet hair. Our house is a historic contributing bungalow from the 1930's with much of it's original charm. With 3 cozy upstairs bedrooms including a king bedroom, queen bedroom, and twin with twin trundle bedroom. Also upstairs is the only bathroom in the house, (unless you count the sketch 1/2 bath in the basement). Among the charms, are also the realities. This home does not have air conditioning, but has fans and windows on all 4 sides to catch the evening breeze. This welcoming property is perfect for families or friends looking for a lovely place to stay that is close to everything that Blacksburg has to offer: tucked away on a pedestrian-friendly side street, it is only one block from downtown, where you can walk to all the restaurants, coffee shops, bars, shopping, theater, and Virginia Tech campus. (Downtown can be quite noisy on a football weekend, and we are located only one short block away!) Lane stadium is just over 1 mile away, or about 25-30 minutes walking time. There is parking for 2 cars in the driveway, one in front of the other, and you can also park a car on the street with a permit displayed (which is inside the house). We will need to access the house once each full day that you are staying to feed the fish; this will take 5 minutes and can be scheduled at your convenience.

This property is in a super convenient location in the downtown area. While it is an older house, it has plenty of space for a party of 6 - only downside is that there is only one full bathroom so that can get tricky but totally understand based on the age and size of the home. The fenced in yard was nice for the dog who absolutely loved the ducks in the next door neighbor’s yard. The kiddos loved the tire swing in the back as well. Overall, good spot to be for game weekend.

Dog friendly, fenced yard. Nature lovers paradise. Darling property a stone’s throw from downtown Blacksburg and VT. No a/c meant windows open and the neighborhood noise was significant. Made it a bit hard to sleep. No TV. Parrots/fish on property / parrots are also loud. Owner warned us and offered to take them but I wasn’t clear about the situation, so I didn’t ask them to take them. My fault. 3 bedroom with interesting decor.

We have lived in this house for over 20 years and are sharing it as a way to allow others to enjoy our town and neighborhood without the downsides of taking away long term rentals or loss of community. Our neighbors are the best! By doing this we hope to help pay for our kids college educations while sharing our community.

Why they chose this property

Lively, fun, and walkable with parks, schools, and downtown amenities just a stone's throw away. Our neighborhood is a mix of owners and renters who look out for eachother and care for the history and livability of our unique college town.

What makes this property unique

A 90ish year old bungalow with almost everything being original to the house: plaster, wood trim, hardwood floors, fireplace, and built in china cabinet. You can see where the bedroom doors each used to have padlocks in the 1950s and 60s when the owner rented out the upstairs bedrooms, shared the living room with her renters, and kept the dining room, (now) music room (formerly her bedroom), and kitchen for herself and her chickens.
