Enjoy being tucked away in the trees surrounded by 2.5 acres overlooking the Snowbird mountain range and Lake Santeetlah. This one story, two bedroom cottage sleeps six (two queen beds and one queen sleeper sofa). Lake access in a private cove is a short walk away so bring your kayak, paddle board or canoe. If you are seeking a quiet place to relax or looking for outdoor adventure, you have found the perfect place to land. Trillium Cottage is located in Blue Boar Estates, minutes from Robbinsville, North Carolina. Enjoy the beauty of Nantahala National Forest and Lake Santeetlah.

Start your day with coffee on the front porch, watching the birds fly high above the lake as the morning mist slowly disappears. Spend you days hiking, fishing, biking, swimming, canoeing, or simply relax on the front porch with a good book or journal. Finish your day with a soak in the hot tub under the blanket of stars! It's a true escape.

**ATTENTION: The forest service road leading to my property is a gravel road and somewhat steep in a couple places. We recommend front or all wheel drive. Please check with me before Instant Booking if you are in doubt.

*If you have a group larger than Trillium Cottage can accommodate and looking for an additional cottage close by, please check out Sundance Cottage (Rental 1093066vb). It's a very short walk away and can accommodate 7.

Easily one of our best experiences with a rental. The cottage was extremely clean, well stocked, cozy, and comfortable. With the covered front porch we could enjoy the views even once it began raining. The hot tub was very clean with plenty of towels were provided. Peaceful perfection

Rest and relaxation are easy in this lovely private, quiet, and clean cottage with mountain and lake views. We enjoyed porch sitting, canoeing, and a couple hikes to experience natural beauty all around. Host Jim was wonderful as well, we appreciate the chance to stay.

Had everything we needed. Super cozy, super cute. Beautiful views, perfect little kitchen to have everyone together even during cooking. Absolutely will be planning another stay in the future. VERY difficult path closer to the cottage, not impossible but definitely something you'd need to do in daylight and ice and snow would make it far more difficult. I preferred being far away up in the mountain, definitely worth the ride.

Lovely Cottage

My kids and I stayed here in early July '23. The cottage is lovely. It's close enough to go explore and do things, but also secluded for privacy. The host does a great job communicating with you before and during your stay, if need be. The hot tub was spacious and the wifi was strong enough to connect to the world when needed. It's also located close to my favorite hike Huckleberry Knob. Defintely recommend.

Scenic, Serene & Private

Trillium Cottage is perched in an idyllic setting with a panoramic view of the mountains and Santeelah Lake. We enjoyed the winter sun from the comfort of our rockers on the south-facing deck. The hot tub was well maintained and strategically positioned for privacy, with a great view of the stars, mountains and lake. The interior was clean and comfy, and the kitchen was well equipped. Highly recommended and hope to return.

Exeptional Host

This is a great property. Soon after arrival, it became clear that the heat was not working. The host made arrangments for us to stay in a nearby rental. He went above and beyond. Look forward to going back once the heat is fixed, or it's summer and we can swim in the lake! So much to see and explore in that part of the world.

Not only does Jim's cottage have everything you need for a mountain getaway, but the place has personality with interesting books and fun decorations. You feel like you're staying at a friend's house rather than a sterile VRBO. We often had the nearby lakefront to ourselves and rented a pontoon, allowing us to swim in many other beautiful coves. Lake Santeetlah is stunning with its clean, teal waters surrounded by endless green forests. It is definitely worth the drive west from the Triangle and Triad. One bit of advice--take your 4-wheel vehicle if possible. We are seasoned drivers on gravel mountain roads, but Jim's was still a challenge in a front-wheel CRV with recent ruts from the rainfall. Absolutely still doable, though.

Amazing Little Cottage

This little cottage was absolutely amazing. We wish we had booked it for longer--we were only there for two nights. Jim was a very communicative host and very quick to respond to any questions we had. The place was very clean and had an amazing view. Jim didn't miss one detail--there was everything anyone could have needed right there. Next time we will stay longer and enjoy more of what it had to offer. This was the nicest cottage (best view) that we've stayed with tons of cooking supplies and certainly roomy enough for 4 people (2 couples). Everything was as described. We did like many others and drove down to the lake (10-12min hike) because the path IS the driveway/road.

This place was loads of fun!! We have four kids, 11 and under, and we fit just fine. This property has everything you need: towels, toiletries, oil for cooking, lots of pots and pans, and spices! Very well stocked kitchen! You need to drive to the lake for lake access but it’s really close and has a wonderful cove that is the perfect size for kayaking and swimming. You can also kayak/boat outside of the cove.

Wonderfully peaceful location

We are two retired couples from Virginia and Tennessee that decided to meet together for a visit and to see the Joyce Kilmer forest. The view from the deck is wonderful. The house is one of the best maintained and all needs and then some in the kitchen. Really excellent. The drive way is admittedly (we were warned by the owner) quite steep, but we both made it up without difficulty.

Growing up in both Florida and Virginia, my family often vacationed in the mountains of North Carolina. Later I graduated from Western Carolina University. In 1992 I moved to Asheville, NC and began exploring the surrounding mountains. I first camped at Lake Santeetlah in the early 2000s and fell in love with the area. I set a goal of one day owning property on or near the lake.

Why they chose this property

The minute I set foot on the porch of Trillium Cottage I fell in love with this property. Photos don't do justice to the incredible view. While the cottage is wonderfully simple and well appointed, it's all about the view.

What makes this property unique

Very private! Sitting in the hot tub on a clear night the sky is like being under a blanket of stars.
