This cozy home is located in the small town of Grottoes, Virginia nestled between the shade of an old Oak Tree, Maple Tree, and Pine Trees. It sits on approximately three acres with a large field behind the house where kids can run and play. In the Spring and Summer, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the rose garden in the back yard. My father passed away in March of 2017 and left behind the old home place. He spent many hours in his rose garden and enjoyed delivering them to his wife in the nursing home. Since his passing, I've completely renovated this beautiful old home on Dogwood Ave and have also began to learn the art of growing roses. My father loved to help others and loved people and I am carrying on the tradition of helping others by offering a location where folks can come away, relax and unwind. There are two lovely bedrooms; one of which has two antique brass beds. There is a special room in memory of my father who was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition, there are games for all ages and many books and memorabilia to enjoy. The kitchen has a modern yet retro look to it. There is an old red Formica table that seats four. You can also sit and enjoy the big screen TV while seated at the bar in the kitchen. There is a coffee station completely furnished with coffee and teas to choose from.

The house was in great shape with everything updated and was very clean! It was a nice location to get to places and we enjoyed an evening of porch sitting! We had a great time!
Very well-kept and updated property in a quiet residential area a 30-minute drive from Natural Chimneys state park and Harrisonburg. It was an enjoyable 2-night stay with all the comforts of home.
We had such an awesome time staying here! The home was so warm and welcoming and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable! It was so clean and was decorated in such a unique way that we loved! Our host, Karen was also amazing! She was so friendly and helpful, checking in on us during our stay to be sure all was good 😊
We needed some extra space while visiting our family in Grottoes. Our was extremely enjoyable and exceeded our expectations in every way possible. In addition to a beautiful home, Karen went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Looking forward to returning in the near future.
We had a great time staying at this property. It was perfect for our family of 5 on our visit to the Shenandoah national park. The house was homey with a vintage decor. Would definitely stay there again.
A quick twenty minute escape from the hustle and bustle of JMU Family Weekend. The house was clean, easy to access, and very comfortable. The host even went out of her way to contact us before arrival to help us avoid flooding since we were driving through the remainder of a hurricane.
We had a wonderful time visiting nearby family and staying at Karen’s home! The house is absolutely charming, clean, and comfortable. Perfect for our family. We will stay again when in the area.
The house was well appointed and very clean. Comfortable and sweetly decorated. The location to campus was perfect. Our Host was a very kind and accommodating and made for a pleasantly stay!
Karen’s home was immaculate & welcoming - no complaints at all!! Great bucolic location near parks & farmland yet only about 20 minutes to Harrisonburg. We especially loved the mid-century American styling motif - retro-look but fully modern kitchen & some neat pieces in the living room. Would definitely book another stay!
The house was just wonderful! Quiet, relaxing and everything we needed for our annual wine weekend! Karen had the fridge stocked with a few essentials, eggs, coffee creamer, juice and k-cups for the coffee maker. It was a lovely long weekend and if we are ever back in the area we will be sure to stay here!
Karen was a gracious host and was very helpful and receptive. Her home was clean and had everything that we needed. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
Karen was extremely helpful and quick to respond to all my questions. Every possible accommodation is there for you!! House is immaculate and the yard is so inviting! Everything you can possibly need is in this very clean, nicely decorated sweet home!!! Highly recommend!

About the host
Hosted by Karen T. Michael
I am a native from the Shenandoah Valley and currently live in Harrisonburg. I recently retired from 20 years working as an office manager in the dental field. Most folks I talk with say once you retire, you are much busier than you were before and this has proven to be true. My biggest passion is Missions. I love traveling to other countries to help others. I've visited Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and in recent years I have made many trips to Guatemala and Nicaragua to work in the orphanages and surrounding villages. When I am not traveling, I love to shop in antique stores, work in my gardens and spend time with family and friends. My newest adventure is opening up an Air B&B in my childhood home of Grottoes and I am excited for you to come, relax, and unwind.
Why they chose this property
My home place is located in a small town with a quiet neighborhood. It is within 15 to 20 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive, Cross keys Vineyards, Rocky's Antique Mall, Grand Caverns, The Lavender Farm, and James Madison University. My favorite local restaurant just minutes from the house is Wood Fired Oven. They have a great Steak and Cheese sub and the Pizza is awesome.
What makes this property unique
There are some beautiful old trees located at my old home place and in the summer you can sit in the shade of the old oak tree or sit on the back patio and grille your favorite burger or steak. Grottoes has a beautiful town park just minutes down the road with a walking trail by the river. In addition, my home place is within minutes of Grand Caverns. The cave has been open continually since 1806. During the Civil War and the “Valley Campaign” the cave was visited by both Confederate and Union soldiers. The park at Grand Caverns is filled with scenic trails for hiking, running, and biking. There are also picnic shelters, a pool, a miniature golf course, beautiful areas for fishing; and a fitness trail, featuring exercise stations with instructions at each stop. The peaceful setting at the park makes for an extra special experience here in the Shenandoah Valley!
