The house sits in the middle of a 140 acre ranch and vineyard.

This country getaway provides a true ranch experience. Trails meander through vineyards and ponds lending themselves to leisurely walks, trail runs and make for gorgeous photo ops. The ranch also provides the perfect setting for family reunions, executive retreats, and private parties. We are happy to facilitate your special event during your stay at the ranch.

This single story 1,200 square foot home is newly renovated and is fully furnished and decorated with the utmost attention to detail and designer features, with wood floors and tile throughout. The fully equipped kitchen includes a center island with bar stools and an adjoining dining area.

The great room is cozy and inviting and features a wall of windows with expansive pastoral and valley views, French doors and high ceilings. There is an HDTV with Direct TV in the great room. The well-appointed master suite offers a queen size bed and private bath with dual sinks. Two additional bedrooms both feature queen beds and TV's. A second bathroom is conveniently located off of the great room.

The lovely back patio and front covered porch provide outdoor space to relax, unwind and enjoy the views. Wireless internet is available and there are good cellular connections.

Activities In The Area
The Carriage House is minutes away from the San Luis Obispo Airport, fabulous restaurants, the Pacific Ocean, mineral hot springs, and biking and hiking trails. There are also endless opportunities for golfing no matter your skill level. The ranch is located in the heart of San Luis Obispo wine country and is literally steps away from wineries here in the Edna Valley, in addition to being within 30 miles of over 200 total wineries in the county.

Downtown San Luis Obispo is 6 miles away and features boutiques, restaurants, movie theaters, and the beautiful mission. Every Thursday evening you can stroll through Farmers Market filled with great food, live music and entertainment for the whole family. Downtown SLO also has many bars with live music Thursday - Saturday.

If you’d like to spend your day on the water, head to nearby Avila Beach, Pismo Beach or Morro Bay. Here you can enjoy a variety of activities including kayaking, windsurfing, boogie boarding and surfing. There’s also whale watching and deep sea fishing available. Oceano Dunes is the only place in the state where you can drive vehicles on the beach. You can also explore beautiful Montana de Oro State Park in Los Osos. Lopez Lake is just minutes away where you can spend time boating, skiing and fishing. San Luis Obispo enjoys a mild climate all year with an average of 315 days of sunshine and average temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s in summer and high 60s in winter.

Head north on the Pacific Coast Highway and you’ll see the quaint towns of Cayucos and Cambria, then elephant seals and Hearst Castle in San Simeon. A short day trip takes you further north to the redwoods of Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey Bay. South on 101 will take you to old town Arroyo Grande, the Danish Village of Solvang, and then on to Santa Barbara.

This property is a amazing. The house itself is beautifully decorated, very clean, and has amazing views of the ranch. We enjoyed seeing the horses and cows and our children loved the pool and hot tub. All the grounds are very well maintained -we didn’t want to leave the ranch! I would highly recommend!

The Carriage House

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at Green Gate Ranch. The house was comfortable and clean and we loved the front porch with the rocking chairs. There are no stairs in the Carriage House so it was perfect for my sister who has some mobility issues. I would love to stay here again and might come back and stay at the Ranch House in the future.

Magical Vacation

I cannot say enough about this beautiful location. The furnishings were absolutely designer perfect, functional and exceeded my expectations. The "country" feel of the horses, goats, chickens and farm dogs was a thrill for my 5 year old grandson...as well as his grandpa! Looking out and walking through the vineyards was also a special event for our family of 5. Marjan was great to work with, and everything was so perfect we didn't want to leave the property, but dragged ourselves away for a visit to a few wineries close by! Great Place in SLO Wine Country

We had a great stay at Greengate Ranch for Memorial Day weekend. The Carriage House is a beautiful modern ranch house just built in 2013 and very well appointed. They also have a larger 5 bedroom house just being completed, and wedding facilities. The location was great, right in the middle of SLO wine country, yet still just a short drive to town. We walked to Claiborn and Churchill Winery across the street and Sextant which is just down the street. The Carriage House was also a great value, with 3 couples staying it was about the price of the upper end chain hotels in town, but a great place to gather with friends. The Ranch itself is a busy working horse ranch, so there are horses right outside the house, very neat.

Surpassed expectations

We had a spectacular time and highly recommend the property. It is clean, serene and 10-15 minutes from multiple towns and destinations via easy drives. Place was super clean and even nicer than we expected. Clearly the owners take great care and pride. We will be back to use one of the other properties on the farm/vineyard in the future.

Awesome place, bit pricey but good for special occasions

We were pleased with our stay, it was my husband, family friend/nany, 18 month old daughter and me. Plenty of room for everyone, woke up to a beautiful view of the horses in the ranch. While the main road is somewhat close to the house we didn’t really hear it. Made fire in the night and enjoyed the well stocked kitchen (but note they don’t have any eatables like salt, oil or any spices for example so will need to bring everything). The pool and hot tub area were a dream. Friendly host let my daughter see the poppies the ranch dog just had and play with them. I highly recommend this place. We will so come back for special occasions.

Amazing Stay

Beautiful place! We had an amazing time staying at the Carriage House in Greengate. From the moment we've arrived seeing the expansive view of the ranch and house itself is pretty spot on. The grounds are well kept and well maintained. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking in (which we did for the most part). The beds and linens were very comfy. Although, it's advised as queen size bed, we find that it's most close in full size bed instead. We had a wonderful time staying in the Carriage House. We will most definitely return.

Beautiful and Amazing

We stayed here for CalPoly graduation. It was the perfect place to hang out with family and cook and swim and enjoy the beautiful views from the house. Everything was clean and comfortable. One of the best places we've ever stayed, loved it!

Greengate Ranch has a history dating back to the 1800’s as a dairy farm, but is best known for its rise to international acclaim under the ownership of Jay and Dorothy Stream, who occupied the ranch from the 1950’s until 2012. The Streams, often in partnership with Jay’s client, the legendary Wayne Newton, bred world class Arabian horses after turning this majestic piece of land into a top notch horse facility. Jay Stream was a Past President of the International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA), inspired the Arabian Horse Society and was President Emeritus of the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO), having served as President for 31 years. His international recognition popularized the ranch as it became home to world class Arabian events and extravagant galas and auctions attended by celebrities, royalty and luminaries from the Middle East who traveled half way across the globe to visit Greengate Ranch.

Jay Stream has since passed away and Dorothy Stream moved to Arizona. The property and all of its facilities had fallen on hard times and were in need of a substantial restoration project. A local family purchased the property in July of 2012 and immediately went to work restoring the grounds and structures to their previous grandeur. Virtually every structure, pasture, fence, and dwelling has been completely overhauled. A 75 acre vineyard are the latest additions to the ranch. The owners take great pride in restoring this once proud property that sits at the gateway to historic Edna Valley. We aim to provide the premier ranch and vineyard experience in California.
