Awesome place and great hosts! The place was very clean and had lots of amenities. The hosts were super friendly and had great recommendations of places to visit and restaurants to try.
This property is absolutely beautiful. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and the kitchen was very well stocked with utensils, appliances and silverware. The bed was comfortable. The place is a little out of the way and the road down is quite steep, but the expansive ocean view from the property is amazing!
One of our best rentals on the islands! Jim was a great host! Great communication. Cottage is lovely, clean, and quiet. Grounds are beautiful, with mango, lime, and pineapples. Close enough to Kona and local sights and snorkeling, but off the main path, so secluded. Coqui frogs are loud at night, but nice to doze off to tropical sounds. Fridge, microwave are great for simple breakfast and lunch options. Would stay here in a heartbeat if ever back on the big Island!!
Kitchen was fine. No direct ocean view from room but lovely property and lovely long views from just outside.Very peaceful and well located for snorkeling at two-step, close to several lovely eating establishments.
Host was welcoming. The place was quiet & relaxing, except for the coque pest frogs at night. Driveway was very steep. Be prepared. We enjoyed our stay.
After plane delayed by a power outage in Denver, we all got to our destinations (power delays impact planes, staff and passengers too). Unit was what I needed to recover from the flights, and angst. Bed was comfortable. Unit is spacious. Host is supportive. Area is beautiful and just what I needed to decompress. I would stay again next year!
Our hosts were so welcoming, the property is beautiful, the ohana was comfortable, clean and well equipt! We felt at home and loved having a dog (Ben) to pat, he’s such a good boy! Thank you for hosting us.
The host was there to greet me at check-in. He provided very good directions to the property and provided information about the area. During a very bad storm during my stay he provided me with candles and flashlights to use in case of a power failure. During the storm he kept me updated and made sure I was okay.
The little cottage was the perfect place for us to come home after a day adventuring. The kitchenette had just enough supplies for us to be able to cook some meals in, which was a huge help! We had a great time!
We had a wonderful stay! The host was responsive, welcoming, and truly thought of everything. The kitchen was very well-stocked, which made cooking so easy. The location is perfect! Close to Captain Cook and 2 Step Beach, which is hands down the best snorkeling on the island. We also loved the outdoor shower surrounded by jasmine-scented flowers—it was such a relaxing way to end each day. Would absolutely stay here again!
We had a fantastic stay at Jim and Terry's Ohana house. beautiful property in the Captain Cook area... well landscaped and perfect view for the meteor shower. the hosts were very helpful with great suggestions for food and sightseeing. i really enjoyed hearing the coqui frogs sing me to sleep and the roosters wake me up! close to great snorkeling and kona. everything was clean and there were many amenities in the kitchen and bathroom that helped us out during our stay. beach gear also available to borrow. the kitchen had a toaster oven and microwave as well as coffee maker, fridge and freezer. i would come back here anytime!
Our stay at the Pineapple Patch cottage was a wonderful experience. The location was beautiful and we loved to have a quiet place to come back to after adventuring around the island! Would recommend a visit to this lovely place if you like quiet and beautiful views.
Outstanding! Very comfortable unit with everything you need. The hosts were helpful and friendly. They directed us to a really nice reef to explore nearby. Their recommendation for breakfast was awesome! The location overlooking the ocean was breathtaking. We enjoyed everything about our stay here.

About the host
Hosted by Jim Martin
We had been coming to South Kona for 15 years when we acquired the property early in 2013. We have been residents for three years, now. Jim is a retired theatre artist/social worker/educator/student, and Terry owns his own business in international shipping. Jim stays more or less permanently in South Kona, while Terry is still working. He comes and goes regularly. We have a 6-year old dog, Kona. She came over from LA over two years ago, and she is now a local girl.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with South Kona and the expansive views of the coast and the sea - as well as the myriad of activities the area presents. We bought a lot very close to the house and cottage and are considering expanding the orchard. We are not only the happy owners of a beautiful Hawaiian home, but we are mango farmers, tending a 30-tree mango orchard on our property.
What makes this property unique
We are in an ideal location for R&R after a day of Big Island activities - whatever your pleasure, be it snorkeling or diving in Kealakekua or Honaunau Bay, cycling, hiking, sight-seeing, coffee tasting or just experiencing Aloha! The area is very quiet and we have lovely neighbors. We are two drives down from Napo'opo'o Road so road noise is non-existent. We are surrounded by birds and lush vegetation. Kona polices the property, and keeps the wild chickens and turkeys away - usually. They can be brazen.
