About this property

Cabin on Little Kennebec Bay: The Grey Havens

Please Note:
- This cabin is not currently able to accommodate children under 18.
- Drought conditions require conservation of water - e.g., shorter showers (keeping water run-time to 5-6 min), not running water while brushing teeth, etc. Failure to conserve water could result in the well running dry.
- For the sake of house and grounds safety, charcoal grilling, fire pits, and smoking are not permitted on the property.

This characterful cabin features bright colors, a spacious deck, surrounding pine groves, and panoramic views of Little Kennebec Bay. A forest trail, just off the deck, traverses a cascading brook, descending to rocky, coastal waterfront.

Master bedroom features a new queen mattress and a fully-lined cedar closet - plenty of storage space! Upstairs loft includes two twin beds and an overhead view of the bay. High-ceilinged living room offers a reading nook, propane fireplace, and panoramic windows for curling up and viewing seals, lobster boats, eagles, humming birds, and stars.

New kitchen appliances (oven/stove, refrigerator/freezer, microwave) and a furnished kitchen make cooking easy, while local nearby restaurants (15 min) offer sandwiches & lattes, seasonal salads & lobster bisque, beers & burgers that grant reprieve from meal prep.

Please note that while the cabin has excellent wifi service, it does not feature a TV or any streaming services.

A number of nearby natural attractions expand opportunity for adventure - Roque Bluffs State Park, Quoddy Head State Park (eastern-most point of the United States!), Campobello International Park (passport required), kayak/canoe rental, and more.

Whether you’re in search of a contemplative retreat or a northern new-England adventure, The Grey Havens is designed to provide rustic comfort and beauty, as well as plenty of wonder inspired by rock and wood, shells and snails, water and sky, critters and creatures, sun-sparkle and mist, scenic sunrises and star-laden expanses.

About the host

Hosted by Gary Moorehead

Host profile image
Gary has lived in Afghanistan, Oxford, and Montreal, but is a New England native and, for the past decade, has lived in the Boston area. He directs a Boston-Area non-profit that provides temporary lodging, practical support, friendship, and advocacy for documented asylum seekers and refugees who are seeking to rebuild their lives in the area.

Gary loves the Maine Coast. His parents built the cabin in 1970, when Gary was a young boy, and, despite being over 85, they still typically visit once each summer.

Over the years, the cabin has been, for Gary, a consistent place he has come to find respite and to offer hospitality, to encounter quiet wonder and to engage in focused work, and to take time for contemplation and to welcome the surprise of adventure. He hopes that others who visit the cabin will be both enlivened and refreshed in hope and wonder.

Gary is often juggling multiple plates, but in his spare time, he likes a good read, woodworking, studying history, pondering the nature of reality and the way of neighborly love, praying, and making room for meals shared with both friends and strangers. He is a fan of all things written by J.R.R. Tolkien, old architecture, hand-made artifacts, baba ghanoush, cream of buckwheat, mercy, and the music of Ralph Vaughn Williams.
