Perched high in the hills you will feel like you truly have a birds eye view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From the comfort of the swivel chairs on the covered porch you look out over the surrounding trees and green rolling hills in the valley to the distant peaks of the blue-tinted mountains that give them their name. Located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the house is minutes from the village of Blowing Rock, Tweetsie Railroad, Cone Manor, Grandfather Mountain, and Appalachian State University. The charm of the mountains are all nearby with many hiking trails. Try a tasting at one of the local wineries or breweries, or just enjoy your own happy hour on the balcony.
There is just one step into the main level which features an open floor plan so the cook can converse with everyone from the well stocked kitchen to the dining and living rooms. Down the hall are 2 bedrooms - one with a full bed and the other with 2 twin beds - and a full bath between.
Upstairs is a large loft with more games and toys than a kid could hope for. The loft also has a half bath for convenience. There is a small TV with a video library of classic movies.
Downstairs is a game room with dart board and bumper pool, laundry room and the master suite with a queen bed and a nice walk in shower.
When you have filled your lungs with the fresh air and just can't relax anymore, there are so many activities waiting for you within a short drive...the house is located near mm288 just off the Blue Ridge Parkway between Boone and Blowing Rock...take a leisurely cruise on the Parkway in search of the perfect hiking trail, wade in the cool water of a Price Lake stream, take the 1 mile scenic (and flat) walk around Bass Lake then marvel at the high quality crafts at the Cone Manor. No trip to the highlands is complete without a drive to the top of Grandfather Mountain to traverse across the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Not much further down the road is Linville Caverns and Falls. And if you have the young ones with you, Tweetsie is a must...you can hear the whistle blow from the house! After fun filled days come home to the comfort of your retreat high on the hill.
The atmosphere and furnishings of this home exudes comfort. It is a cool reprieve from the heat of summer and it wraps you in warmth during the cool months. The high ceilings and beautiful wood wall paneling complete the picture perfect mountain home. We promise, you will never want to leave...but you can always come back again!

Had a lovely time. The home was well stocked and homey with a lot of knickknacks, but clean. The views were fantastic. Homeowner texted us about a fireworks show up the street and we had a glorious Fourth! The proximity to Blowing Rock town was fantastic.
We were looking for a place to just relax and enjoy peace, while having a little fun. This house was the perfect place in the perfect location. It was right off the Blue-Ridge Parkway, with amazing views. It is close to several towns for eating out or shopping. We found several near-by hikes. Enjoyed a night around the fire pit. I highly recommend this home away from home!
We had a great family vacation. The area had a wide variety of activities for everyone and the house was well situated to just relax and enjoy the view in between.
We had an amazing 2 & 1/2 weeks in Blowing Rock. We loved the view and coziness of this property! It was very secluded in this amazing mountain neighborhood.
We would definitely enjoy staying here again in the future!!!😁👍
Spent long weekend in NC mountains exploring from Boone to Black Mountain. This house was the perfect home base! The listing is spot on and the the most distinguishing feature is the MAGNIFICANT VIEWS from multiple locations through the house! Relaxing by the wood burning fire place was most enjoyable after shopping hiking eating etc. The home was spotless, fully stocked, and had everything we needed. Communication with the owner was excellent throughout our stay. I HIGHLY recommend this beautiful property!
Beautiful view and overall very comfortable home. We spent a lot of time outside on the deck! The location was ideal and we loved getting on the parkway coming and going. My young kids enjoyed all the toys in the loft. We hope to be back!
Loved staying at Kathy's cozy cabin. Really impressed with the location- right off the blue ridge parkway and only 10min to blowing rock and boone. Very clean and incredible view.
The view is to the north and that was perfect for viewing the auroras of May 10th. Perfect place, perfect time, perfect weather, and perfect view...it all lined up. The house is very quaint and this kitchen is one of the better equipped I've experienced through VRBO....lots of pots, pans, utensils, etc. We enjoyed our stay very much and communication with the owner was quick and easy.
The view was exactly as promised. The house was clean and had a lot of fun games to play with your family, It is very close to Blowing Rock and right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We would love to visit here again.
Our family enjoyed a great mountain vacation staying at “What A View”. We hiked several of the trails in the area, tried out the Alpine Coaster, visited Grandfather Mountain and topped it off with Tweetsie Railroad. The house served as a comfortable home base for our daytime adventures. Hope to do it again!
Great house with an awesome view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Location is perfect for lots of outdoor activities or heading into Boone or Blowing Rock. Kathy is wonderful to work with. I would highly recommend this property.

This is what a cabin in the mountains should be!
We had a great time on our long weekend visit to Blowing Rock and staying at this cabin. The views couldn't be any nicer. We spend a lot of time drinking coffee (and wine!) on the porch. We saw deer, cows, and turkeys long-range with the binos. I would stay here again!
Relaxing, cottage home. Stunning view. We only left the deck to go in to Blowing Rock. We will definitely be back!

About the host
Hosted by Kathy Phillips
Bob is a native North Carolinian and Kathy transplanted from Pennsylvania long enough ago (1968) to claim NC as home. We live and work in Raleigh, but love all that this state has to offer. We escape in either direction - to the mountains and to the coast (check out our Ocracoke listing #1585907) every chance we can, but with two kids to put through college it's not often enough. So, until the day when we are free to move about the country, we would like to share our home away from home with like minded folks who appreciate taking time to relax and rejuvenate.
Why they chose this property
Bob's family has a summer home on the same hill and he grew up coming here. So when this house became available we took the plunge. With two young children at the time, it may have been too early to think about retirement, but we always knew we would someday like to live in the mountains. What we got was a place our kids could be free to run out the door to play with the lifelong good friends they found on the hill.
What makes this property unique
Whether you are cozy on the couch, warming up around the fire pit, or rocking in the balcony chairs, you will enjoy a change of pace in these hills. Our place is one that gives people time to gain new perspectives and appreciate the nature around you.
