Step away from reality for a chance to see true beauty in its natural environment at Sunjammer, this home away from home in beautiful Waves! Come appreciate everything an Outer Banks vacation has to offer with this four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home, complete with everything you need for time with your loved ones. Rest your laurels in the hot tub while you watch the sunrise over the ocean. Slip up to the top floor for some fantastic ocean views on the furnished sundeck while catching some rays, or curl up with a good book while watching the sunset over the sound. With a fully equipped kitchen complete with a breakfast bar and wet bar, entertain family and friends with a home-cooked meal and games in the spacious, tastefully decorated great room or cookout on the barbecue while eating on the two picnic tables provided. Other amenities include three TVs, two DVD players, and two stereo/CD players. Join us here at Sunjammer where every day new memories are made!

THINGS TO KNOW
Guests have access to the Club Hatteras Pool Facility, located at the Avon office address: 41156 Hwy 12, Avon, NC 27915. The pool is generally open from May 24 to September 8, from 10 AM to 6 PM. Please note that the operation of community pools is subject to the discretion of the state inspector, management, and/or the HOA. As a result, the availability schedule may change without prior notice.

Our family of 4 had a great time. Plenty of space, good kitchen stocked with the tools we needed, and some good pots and pans. Charcoal grill outside, and hot tub was solid. House was clean and had some puzzles and games. Can’t beat the location - beachfront and close to market, restaurant and ice cream.

Sunjammer!!!...Home away from home.

Sunjammer in Waves, NC provided the perfect backdrop for our family beach vacation, Summer 2025. The house was spotless, spacious and eclectically decorated, with every amenity we could have hoped for. The kitchen was equipped, allowing for easy meal preparation, and the 2nd deck, just outside the great room provided gorgeous views while enjoying much desired hot tub time. We loved the close proximity to the beach, making those sunrise walks effortless. The kids especially enjoyed the calmness and warmth of the beach, providing hours of entertainment. From comfortable beds to ample seating, Sunjammer felt like a true home away from home and we can't wait to return next year!

Great house and location.

Had a great time at Sunjammer. That hot tub was big and very private. The upstairs is very spacious. It is a great location right on the dunes. Unfortunately due to a recent storm they were very steep, but I assume they will eventually return to normal.

End of summer vacation

Great little house in a quiet little neighborhood on the beach. We ate in most of the trip and it seems like a small thing but having quality cookware was a welcome surprise! Our last trip to OBX was almost 20yrs ago. It was a great trip being reminded of memories from when our kids were young.

Hike up over dunes to beach

The main living area was nice and well suited for our group. The bedrooms and bathrooms were a little small but worked fine. We knew from the listing the house was behind the sand dunes, but didn’t realize that it is a decent hike up over them to the beach and that high tide came right up to the dunes when we were there leaving no beach area. Check in was easy though and we didn’t have any issues. The neighborhood seemed nice as well. Hot tub was nice for the evenings. We did not visit the community pool.

Nice but….

Appeared clean but needs a visit from the exterminator. First night killed a roach and six or seven spiders. Needs a handyman visit as well (torn screens on doors, loose railings on decks, loose interior stair railings) and an outside cleaning generally from past guests that left empty beer cans and trash

Adorable Oceanfront Home

We really enjoyed our stay in this sweet beach front home. Our granddaughters loved the beach access. And what an incredible deal for beach front access. We enjoyed the quieter area of Waves, while still being convenient to drive to Avon or Hatteras as well as going north to Duck & Corolla to spend a day with the wild horses. The home had a nice little welcome package, which was wonderful, as I quickly realized I forgot to pack our shampoo & didn’t have to run out immediately to buy some. We also really enjoyed our evenings in the hot tub looking up at the stars. I will say earlier reviews are accurate regarding access to the beach. The dune is steep coming back from the ocean, so be aware that anyone with mobility issues would struggle with this as there isn’t a wooden ramp with steps. We also did take a little fan for the bedrooms as you can hear anyone walking above you, but slept great with the fan on.

Hot tub didn't work (missing its cover, so could never get above 96 in this weather). Internet kept dropping out entirely so we couldn't work from there. Less importantly, it was a sparsely appointed place, relative to other houses I've rented there. e.g., no soap in the bathrooms.

The home is beachfront as advertised. The pictures are misleading and old. You will have to navigate 25ft sand dunes to access the beach.The home appeared clean at first glance. However, we found dirty kleenex behind a dresser and under the couch. Food wrappers and a pill under the couch. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes. Almost all dishes in the cabinets had dried food on them and were dirty. There was a dead bug in a utensil drawer that appeared to be a cockroach. The TV stand was draped in cobwebs and dust. There were several small tables in the home that were covered in sand and dirt. 4 of the 8 beds had been made with linens. 1 bed had linens thrown on top of it and 3 beds had no linens. Just a bedspread thrown over top. Of the 4 beds that were made, 2 had clearly been slept in previously and one of those had dried feces on the sheets. Of the 3 tvs downstairs, only 1 worked. They all had multiple remotes. We changed the batteries ourselves in the other 2 but it didn't fix the issue. It took 3 days for someone to come and fix this issue. Vents throughout the home and baseboards on the lower level were covered in mold. Some mold had been painted over. We had breathing issues while staying here. There are things broken in the home that need repair. I have reached out to Vacasa about the issues we had with no response. I would not give this company your money. They do not care! I hope the homeowner sees the type of management they have for their home.

Our stay

Our stay did not get off to a good start. A couple of days prior to arrival, I contacted vacasa regarding their check in time of 6pm. We had an 8 HR drive and asked if we could access the house prior to 6. I was informed that when I received the email/text notice with the access code it meant the house was clean and we could enter. It was 4:15pm when we arrived, but the house had not been cleaned. After speaking with a representative, who noted the cleaners were running late, management offered us to go have dinner and they would compensate us. We did that, and I sent a copy of the receipt which was to be refunded in 3-5days. That was 5/25, today is 6/8, and we have yet received it. When we arrived back to the house at 6:15, the cleaners we still there. It was another 30 minutes before they finished. The house needs some TLC, a coat of paint inside, a really good scrub.

Sunjammer is what it is

There are many positives and a few things you need to be understanding about at this property. The beach access is outstanding and the beaches were clean and sparsely populated. The hot tub location on the top deck allowed for nighttime star viewing and a peek at the ocean. The covered porch outside the two masters is a great, cool morning coffee spot. The property was a short bike ride to DQ and a very good diner, along with some shops. The cable package is the most robust I have ever seen. The WiFi only needed to be rebooted once during the week. Washer/dryer worked perfectly. Now the things you need to be understanding. The kitchen is not a place to cook more than pasta/Mac n cheese for the kids. The bedrooms are all on the bottom floor which is convenient. However the floor boards are wafer thin and if anyone is walking up the stairs or on the top floor, it sounds like a herd of elephants. Be warned if you have light sleepers or little ones in your group. The place could have used a gas grill - the park-like grill out back looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. I stayed away. The listing says the house sleeps 8 which is accurate. I wouldn’t go with more than 6 tops - it gets crowded very easily. The previous reviews were very helpful before arriving. The house is what it is - a small, dated house directly on the beach with an exposed hot tub.
