We were in town for our daughter’s graduation from Virginia Tech. The cost was the same as hotels the same distance in the opposite direction of the school so we decided to try this as opposed to coming from Roanoke area. No traffic at all and such a peaceful location. We knew it was rustic and that there were two lofts. We are all over 18 and healthy so that wasn’t a concern climbing the steep ladders. The bathroom has a lot of counter space which was necessary with 3 girls! We really enjoyed the space and hope to come back when we can spend more time and get on the river.
We did a quick overnight while visiting colleges in the area. The place was as described (the listing had minimal detail) but greater detail would have been nice to have as we made a lot of assumptions. There is no television or wifi; cell service was spotty but better outside of the cabin. We happened to bring fishing poles and card games so we managed to occupy ourselves just fine without. It wasn't the cleanest place we’ve stayed; lots of ladybugs and stink bugs in the floorboards and under pillows/blankets, etc. and we only had 3 towels for 4 people. We are pretty outdoorsy people so it wasn’t worth calling anyone to fix for a one night stay but for the cost we would have expected something cleaner. Things that may be important to note for others visiting: 3 beds are in a loft that are only accessible via very steep ladders (one ladder is straight up, no slant at all). There is also an active railroad directly in front of the house. Just a heads up on those things if you have small children. Teenagers managed it fine. Overall, it was a beautiful view and quiet which is all we needed for a single night stay.
