Cartecay River Hideaway

No better place to get isolated than in our hideaway in the woods on the river with small town amenities nearby. Wade Right in from our River Cabin this Summer! Go Leaf-looking, get a Bushel of Apples, Hike the Georgia Mountains this Fall! Enjoy the solace of the season serenaded by the rippling water just outside or step out for adventure on nearby hiking, biking and river trails.

Beautiful 3-bedroom, 3 bathroom log cabin with three decks right on the sparkling Cartecay River. Set a line from the deck at water’s edge or set a spell in a rustic rocking chair and hear the river’s chatter from our screened in porch or master bedroom balcony.

All pine log home is attractively furnished, with upstairs king master suite, mirrored jacuzzi tub, and private balcony overlooking the river. Two main floor full bedrooms, one with riverside screened porch, offer North Georgia décor in superb comfort.

Fully equipped kitchen opens out to bright, multi-window great room and office nook with vaulted ceiling and massive rock fireplace equipped with gas logs (not available in summer). Cable tv, high speed internet, wireless access, dvd player bring modern conveniences into our log cabin on the Cartecay.

Downstairs bar room (bring your own beverages) with beer fridge, foosball table, and game table opens up to patio beside the river.

All linens provided. Full size washer and dryer. Sleeps 6.

Propane and gas grills on back patio next to river.

Cabin and local amenities: fish for trout from our riverbank or riverside deck. Prepare your favorite vacation and holiday meals in our fully equipped kitchen. Drive 15 minutes into downtown Ellijay for antiquing, dining, and enjoying small town charm.

Minutes from Ellijay’s Apple Alley, the Georgia Apple Restival (2nd & 3rd weekends of October) and local farm markets, Cartecay Vineyards, Amicalola Falls, Appalachian Trail, Benton MacKaye Trail and the charming small towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge, plus some of the best hiking, mountain biking and hunting in the region.

Great hiking trails (Appalachian Trail, Benton MacKaye, Amicalola Falls State Park, Cohutta Wilderness and more) await your boots. Get your fat tires muddy on some of the best mountain bike trails in the southeast. Anglers enjoy trout fishing on the Cartecay, Noontootla, Toccoa, Ellijay and Coosawattee rivers.Nearby WMAs (Rich Mountain, Dawson Forest and Cohutta) provide ample hunting for deer, turkey, and feral hogs.

The cabin was clean and very comfort. The check-in process was very smooth and Jane the host was very responsive. The location on the river is beautiful and very peaceful. We spend a week in the cabin to just relax and decompress from our busy lives. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The property is beautiful, the grounds need to be cleaned up some, it is grown up with bushes and stuff. Up close was mowed , but in all we had a great time. Would come back and recommend it to others. Hot water did run out before jacuzzi was full enough to turn on. So didnt get to enjoy it.

The property and house has lots of potential, but it needs a lot of time and attention. We had to launder the bed linens before we could sleep on them. They all smelled musty. Every dish we pulled out of the cabinet was dirty. The grounds are very overgrown. It was sad because the view was so pretty, but you could hardly enjoy it because nothing was maintained. The couches had tears that were covered up with blankets. And there were nasty little notes everywhere that really made it feel as though we were imposing. I understand having rules, but everything felt as though we were not even supposed to be there. We were only allowed to do one load of laundry in seven days…. It seemed like it would have been better to just remove the washer and dryer. I actually removed some of the notes and put them back before we left because every time I saw them I got frustrated. The tone of each of them was fairly nasty. We could not get the dishwasher to work so we hand washed all dishes We were really disappointedThis is the first negative review I’ve ever left.

Amazing Anniversary Weekend!

The cabin is right on the Cartecay River, and was fully outfitted with everything we needed for our stay. We loved it there so much that we didn’t leave the entire weekend. Highly recommend this beautiful home in Elijay to all!

Crisp Fall Riverside Weekend

The cabin was as listed and met our needs and expectations. The proximity to apple orchards and vineyards was a plus. The location on the river was a winner and a delight to see the sun rise over the river well as the beaver moon at night. The sound of the rumbling water was an added delight.

Weekend on the Cartecay River

Our family wanted to stay somewhere close to Ellijay and on the river. The house is located within 15 minutes of downtown. We enjoyed our stay. The house was well appointed and really clean. The only thing that would have been nice to know before hand is the main bedroom is a loft open to the living room. All in all a good stay by all.

River Hide Away

We chose this property for the river view and location. Both of these were great! The cabin was very nice and had two decks to look at the river. Again, great features.We had a storm the night we arrived and were without electricity for approximately 4 hours. Our host was very nice and responsive. They did suggest we stay the night without lights or air conditioning. I was going to go, but my girlfriend talked me in to staying. I was really happy when the electricity was restored,I am not sure if it was the storm, but something happened to the router and we did not have Internet for the entire time that we were there. Since this cabin was in the mountains, we also did not have phone service. There was a phone in the cabin, but it did not work because the router was not working. It was difficult not being able to communicate to the outside world or have a way to be contacted if there was an emergency.

Hideaway Cabin

I was very pleased with our stay as the pictures online were exactly how the cabin was! We did have to wait a hour after arriving to get in due to the cleaning crew still there. For sure will be going back!!

I was very happy with the cabin. The location was beautiful and having the river outside our door was amazing . Only thing I was sad about was not being able to use the full deck over the river. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Awesome place.

The perfect cabin getaway! 😍

We stayed in this cabin for two nights to celebrate my sister’s birthday and this cabin far surpassed our expectations!! The owners have done an excellent job of thinking of little things you might need, but forget to pack…coffee filters, extra towels, toys, puzzles, and more. We especially enjoyed the gas fireplace (so cozy on chilly nights), and the jacuzzi bathtub. My absolute favorite is the screened in back porch overlooking the river… those rocking chairs are so comfy you may never want to leave! We were already talking about when to book this cabin again. Truly a great find!!

If you want privacy in the bedroom forget it. It's a loft. No shower in the master bathroom. Bring your own toilet paper and towels. The TP is one ply sandpaper and the towels are old and ratty. The river front deck was blocked off with no access.

Coldest weather ever

The cabin was exactly as expected. Was a great getaway. We did have a water problem but called the owner and she was going to come from another city to check on problem but brother in law went to the pump house and got water working again. The weather never got above freezing the whole 4 days we were there. The owner refunded a small portion of our stay for the water trouble we had and it had snowed the night before checkout making getting out difficult so she extended our check out time to let the roads thaw out some. We will be back!

Short getaway

5 days seemed just perfect for his little town. Nice little cabin on the river. Loved the peacefulness of the location and the lack of neighbors. Listing says you do not need a 4 wheel drive vehicle but the road is very steep with pot holes. Wet roads made it difficult so Im not sure how it would be in the snow. Make sure you follow all the check out rules to the T. We had the pilot light go out on the fireplace and couldnt get it re lit. Called the property manager but was still unable to get it lit and was charged a $25 fee.

secluded and peaceful

The place was a paradise . Its like being on a tree house overlooking the water . Everything was magical . At first we got lost and accidentally went to the next door cabin . The drive there is interesting , must drive slow as we saw few deers on the way of the road and some parts had hills . The house is clean but there were one Un invited roach that came through the fire place. We had everything we needed . A suggestion would be fix the dock so people can enjoy the best part of the house . We didn't use the tub as we prefer showers , the cabin was breath taking . Close to town but I don't recommend getting there on a Tuesday because most restaurants were closed . Tubing , rafting was available cnear by to the location . We also went to Ruby falls which is a cave that had a waterfall inside about an hour away. Blue Ridge town is another option for dinning that has more options of restaurants . The house had a grill and also fire pit . The area for the fire pit needed a little clean up . Over-all we loved the get away . It was very peaceful . We highly recommend it .

BEWARE!

I have stayed in places all over the world, luxury hotels to tents in the Moroccan desert. This place scared my grand-daughter. The place needs thorough cleaning. Did not inspect as much as when you leave to make sure you don't leave things under the beds and such. When we did check i found dog toys and loose medication under the bed. Just barely visible due to the amount of dust bunnies on the floor and lamps, walls and surfaces of the room. Pets were allowed so luckily they did not get into the medication on the floor. There are exposed electrical outlets on the floor with no covers. After checkout we received a charge for $50 for an extension cord not rolled to their liking and something unclear about the fireplace being used. The charge seems arbitrary and capricious in relation to the issue. Would have just chalked the vacation rental up as an experience that we would not want to do again, but these charges people come up with really cap off the whole disapointment with the time spent there.

Anniversary trip

It was a get away trip to get away during these crazy times. The cabin design was great, location was nice, the river being right there was beautiful & it was 15 mins away from shopping & eating. The river does not have easy access from the yard as described but if you're careful you can get in. The downstairs "game room" had a strong smell of mildew & Foosball table is not in a condition to be used. The master bedroom is very spacious & the deck of that room is nice but the bed itself is extremely uncomfortable The screen porch over looking the river was nice & peaceful. The home itself could use some up keep; spiders & roaches were an issue. You can see the web nest outside of the building up on the windows. I live in the woods in Florida, I am aware of bugs & other creepy crawly things in the natural environment but we do not have them in our house. The inside was not as clean as you would expect, and there was a lot of clutter including several junk drawers. The furniture is in poor condition and very uncomfortable which made relaxing in the cabin impossible for any extended period of time & was told by the owner.

Not as advertised...

The cabin was in disrepair and dusty. There's a mold issue that caused the cabin and towels to smell, and made the game room unusable. There was a ring around the Jacuzzi tub when we arrived but since I never take baths anyway I just used the shower downstairs. I let the homeowner know when we left so she could make sure it was taken care of for the next guest. She accused me of lying...said I had used the Jacuzzi and left the ring. I can't imagine why I would lie since I rented the cabin and had every right to take a bath if I wanted to...why would I lie about taking a bath?! There was a huge cobweb on the kitchen light fixture that Tarzan could swing from, I guess I put that there, too? Thankfully I took a lot of pictures when we arrived to show the condition of the cabin, the nasty notes left for guests around the cabin had me feeling I'd need them. There were so many things wrong but I wasn't going to write a bad review until the owner accused me of leaving streaks on the bathroom fixture and a ring in the tub, which I did not do... the real problem is the owners attitude towards guests, she seems to resent them and will use any excuse to take their deposit. The towels, beds, furniture...decor overall... is old, smelly, and broken. It needs to be repaired, updated, and cleaned by a professional after each guest. Sadly, as can be seen in previous reviews I wish I'd read, the owner blames her guests for these problems rather than taking responsibility for poor cleaning practices and lack of upkeep.

This is our favorite cabin, where the children frolicked and fished in the river and where we set out for fun and adventure in the mountains. The walls are adorned with trophies from their dad's hunts and river outings. Our memories are warm and anticipations high when our thoughts turn to Cartecay Hideaway.
