Off-Grid Mongolian Yurt on Vermont Sheep Farm

Cariad Bach Yurt is a traditional Mongolian yurt set on our working sheep farm in rural Vermont. Designed for two adults, this is a quiet, off-grid glamping retreat for guests who appreciate simplicity, open space, and the rhythm of farm life.

The yurt is accessed by walking approximately 600 feet across a grass field. The path is not paved and may be uneven or muddy depending on weather. Guests should be comfortable carrying their belongings.

Inside, the circular space is simple, warm, and thoughtfully furnished. A wood stove provides heat in cooler months, creating a cozy retreat after a day outdoors. The structure reflects the historic connection between shepherding and nomadic life — a fitting stay on a Vermont sheep farm.

This is an intentionally off-grid experience:
• No running water
• Limited solar power with USB charging only
• Heated by wood stove
• Private outdoor kitchen area
• Separate private outhouse with Norwegian incinerating toilet

The simplicity is part of the design. This is a place to unplug, slow down, and enjoy the landscape.

Guests are welcome to visit our self-serve farm stand, open year-round. We offer pasture-raised lamb and mutton, farm eggs, and British and European baked goods. Pre-order options may be available for guests who would like something waiting upon arrival. All guests receive a 10% discount at the farm stand.

“Cariad Bach” means “little darling” in Welsh — a nod to our heritage and our life as shepherds here in Vermont.

Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Due to the specialized nature of the incinerating toilet, guests must review and acknowledge usage instructions prior to check-in.
Please do not use wood stove wood in the firepit. Dedicated wood can be purchased and is available in the outdoor kitchen.
Please remove shoes when entering the yurt so that we can protect the floors and maintain a clean environment. The entrance mat is waterproof.

We are Adrian and Linda, shepherds at Bryn Cariad Farm in rural Vermont. Adrian grew up in Wales, and our farm reflects that heritage — from the sheep we raise to the name “Cariad Bach,” which means “little darling” in Welsh.

We focus on pasture-raised sheep, along with a small farm stand offering our lamb, eggs, and British and European baked goods.

We enjoy building things ourselves, working outdoors, and sharing a quieter way of life with guests who appreciate simple, intentional spaces. Hosting the yurt allows us to offer a small piece of farm life to those looking to unplug and slow down.

We chose this location for its open land, quiet surroundings, and strong sense of rural community. Our farm sits in a peaceful area of Vermont with rolling fields, wooded hills, and very little traffic.

What we enjoy most is the space and the pace. You can hear the wind, the birds, and the sheep. Nights are dark and quiet, and the stars are visible on clear evenings. It’s a place where daily life still feels connected to the land.
