Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.
Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.
Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.

Great location, well stocked kitchen, cozy space. Well maintained hot tub. 4 stars because the heating wasn't working during our stay but space heaters and a firewood were provided, while that was appreciated the bedrooms got quite cold at night…but overall great stay.
Clean and welcoming, this was a wonderful last minute decision for a quick get away. A short pre-Thanksgiving trip did not provide an opportunity to really fully use the amenities (e.g. hot tub, barbeque and most of the decks were not used at all as we went walking every day!) the house seem well equipped for longer stays and larger groups.
spent the weekend with friends at Gewing House and had an incredible time! Clear check-in instructions, clean and welcoming house with incredible views, and so close to coastal trails!

Great Sea Ranch home.
Wonderful location on the meadow. Very comfortable two story home with main living area upstairs. Perfect for two couples or family with kids.
We enjoyed the hikes from this property. I didn't do much cooking, but we found the kitchen well-supplied. Location is good for going either north or south to vary the hikes. Views from 2nd floor were lovely.

Great Getaway
The house was perfect for our family of four. The kids loved the bunk room! All bedrooms are downstairs, with kitchen and living spaces upstairs to enjoy the beautiful views. The home is very private and you don’t even see (or hear) your direct neighbors. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a few meals. We will definitely return next time we’re in the Sea Ranch area.
This is a beautifully decorated home that was so nice that we wanted to stay longer. Great layout for families. We loved how the bedrooms were downstairs and the kitchen and living area are above. Beautiful view of the water, trees, and wildlife. We saw a fox, deer, a skunk, and lots of beautiful birds. We would definitely stay again!
The house and location were lovely. We would love to stay again. Note that the house has two levels, so the ability to climb stairs is essential. You will also need to drive the additional 10 min up to Gualala to pick up the Sea Ranch neighborhood parking passes.

Hot tub Time Machine
The location and view were too notch. The feel of the house was 70’s art gallery.
We loved it.
The house was exactly as described; Relaxing living area and the kitchen and bathrooms had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the hot tub, the deck area was nice and felt private. Only note, which the property managers were alerted to, there were a lot of ants in the kitchen and some Pill Bugs throughout the house. We were able to store food in the fridge and enjoy the rest of our trip. Overall, really lovely place!

Wonderful home
We loved our long weekend at the Gewing house. The upstairs great room of the kitchen, living and dining room was especially comfortable and peaceful. As with other rentals, ants came out if you left food sit out but they really weren't a problem once we realized this and minded our food cleanup. Everyone in our group slept great in the beds and we also enjoyed the hot tub.

Hi Eric, thank you for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback as a means to continually improve our homes for future guests.
We hope to host you for another truly carefree and great vacation in the future!
The house looks exactly like the photos - very pretty, lots of art. Upstairs has kitchen/living room and downstairs all the bedrooms are close to each other. Really nice place if you want to relax and have a staycation, the view is great - we saw whales in from the living room. There's not much walking distance, but there's coastal walks, hikes, and beaches nearby. Gualala is 10 minute drive with some restaurants and stores.
Cozy and open plan upstairs with lots of windows. Great art! We liked to watch the deer when it wasn’t raining. Enjoyed the wood stove, jacuzzi and the well stocked kitchen. Coffee maker was small and annoying. Glad we read to bring our own kindling. Bedrooms are basic and comfortable with easy access to the bathrooms since there’s no master suite.
We were very lucky to book this property on short notice. It is WONDERFUL. Great location, beautiful views, comfortable furniture and a number of thoughtful touches (binoculars, hot tub towels, helpful little instruction notes, a trail map, etc.). We really enjoyed the artistic surprises which are everywhere. And perhaps most importantly, a serious cook lives here---this is one of the best-outfitted VRBO kitchens I've ever seen. The add-on fees are higher than for some VRBOs, but that's probably a result of Vacasa and Sea Ranch requirements---the house is still a good value.
It’s a lovely property with a great kitchen and living area. My fault for thinking that 2-70 yr old plus women could sleep in a bunk bed! If there had only been 3 of us, it would have been perfect. But, we loved the house, location, good restaurants, friendly, helpful locals and all the amenities of the house. Great house for two couples and a couple kids who would love the bunk bed room or 3 people. Thanks! We had a great time!

Fix the spider issue and it’s perfect
The home is lovely, exceptionally comfy and well-equipped and clean except for the bunk bedroom. Full of dust and webs and spiders which found their way into luggage. Not cool.

Our stay at the Sewing House
We absolutely loved our stay at the Gewing House. We loved the house's architecture and the views of the ocean. Most days were were greeted by one or two deer eating in the yard. It was very peaceful and the house was quite comfortable. We spent hours reading on the porch and enjoyed the hot tub and the use of the Sea Ranch community pool and trails.
My only suggestions would be that the beds could use an upgrade and a few of the doors did not have working deadbolts and, therefore, could not be locked at night. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.

Hi Deb, thank you for providing us with this valuable feedback, we are so glad that you had a wonderful time at our beautiful home. While we acknowledge that beds will not suit everyone's specific preferences, we are sorry to hear that the bed did not provide a comfortable night of rest. We appreciate you letting us know there is room for improvement, and we'll pass your comments regarding bed comfort onto our management team for consideration. On the other hand, we sincerely apologize that you experienced difficulty locking the door. We appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention as areas to improve and focus on for future guests. We hope to have another chance to impress you on a future stay.
I love this home, this was our second time renting it. I wish it were possible to turn off the hot tub so you don’t have to hear the whirring noise all night, and that the knives in the kitchen were sharpened. Even the bread knife could barely cut bread. Besides that, the home itself is warm and inviting, has amazing views, clean, cozy, stylish furniture, super comfortable beds, everything about it invites you to relax.

Gewing House is Lovely
Staying in this house is like visiting with pleasant friends. There is an unusual amount of art and personality in the house, which is really lovely. The kitchen has everything needed. The location is great. Despite being set back up on the meadow, there are views to the water, and the sound of the surf is pleasant. But the house is also nicely private. There is a berm and plants which help shield the bedroom windows. We enjoyed the hot tub and wood stove - though we had to drive up to Gualala for matches and kindling. The house was clean enough, but housekeeping had forgotten a few things which we found we needed.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat! In fact, we hope that Gewing house is available during our next visit to Sea Ranch.
Well organized, well supplied with quality things.
One suggestion : showers should have mats to get out on. Otherwise you are standing on cold floor that might not be very clean.
One more suggestion: Big noises outside during the night ! really scary! We think it was animals (raccoons ?). Make sure all doors and windows are are closed/locked.
Unable to use electronic lock and manual key. and second key. couldnt get in! called the office who sent a fixer. Determined the key pad was at fault but was unable to fix it..so no, we had no lock during our stay. Good that raccoons dont know how to open doors !
