About this property

The Quaint House: Modern Heritage in Roundout Kingston Waterfront

Glad you found this hidden gem in the heart of the Rondout Waterfront District in Kingston. Welcome to our quaint house!

Born from a decade of falling in love with the Hudson Valley, this historic home is a labor of love by an architectural designer (my partner) and myself.

It’s a thoughtfully curated space designed for those who value the modern heritage aesthetic, nature, and the arts.

Tucked into the historic Rondout Waterfront District in Kingston, this 19th-century house offers a peaceful retreat for travelers seeking to unwind and discover the quiet charm of the Hudson Valley. The home has been carefully restored to preserve its old soul—original wide-plank pine floors and historic details that have stood for over a century—while thoughtful modern updates bring comfort and ease to your stay.

Created by hosts with backgrounds in art and design, the house is curated as a small living gallery. Throughout the rooms, works by our dear artist friends—paintings, photography, ceramics, prints, theater pieces, and photo essays—tell stories of the region, from the creative energy of New York City to the forests, rivers, and small-town charm of the Hudson Valley.

The Green Bedroom is inspired by the surrounding forests and filtered valley light. Bathed in sun throughout the day, it has a calm, restorative atmosphere with soft natural tones, a queen bed with a medium-firm mattress, and access to a small adjoining room set aside for tea, reading, or an evening board game. It’s a quiet corner for slowing down—ideal after a day of hiking, antiquing, or exploring Kingston’s waterfront stores.

The Gray Bedroom draws from the region’s stone cliffs and river-worn rock formations. Limewashed in muted gray tones, the room has a moody, minimalist sensibility and offers a private home theater experience, where a 120-inch projector transforms the space into a cozy movie lounge. A queen bed with a medium-soft Nectar mattress makes it especially suited for long, unhurried evenings. A dedicated private office nook with a mid-century oak workstation offers a quiet place for deep work.

The living room continues the gallery concept—a welcoming space where you can browse books, discover artwork, and let conversations unfold naturally. The sofa easily converts into a queen-size bed, offering a comfortable option for an additional guest.

The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking at home and includes a curated selection of coffee and tea sourced from our beloved local shops in Kingston, as well as Japan—small rituals that make staying in feel as special as going out.

If you’re drawn to the atmosphere of old houses and appreciate thoughtful design layered into historic spaces, this home offers both: a heritage stay with contemporary comforts, in one of Kingston’s most walkable and historic neighborhoods.

We welcome both short and long stays. If you are considering a longer than 30-day stay, please reach out, and we would love to offer an additional discount.
