O Pequeno Castelo, the Little Castle, offers two holiday flats far from mass tourism in the Sotavento Algarvio, only 10 min. from the picturesque town of Tavira and the sandy beach of Pedras d'el Rei. Located in our small guesthouse, the lovingly designed and furnished holiday flat Atlantico has a bedroom with large double bed and alcove bed, bathroom, private terrace with sea view, kitchen and living room with sofa bed. Air conditioning, digital satellite TV and wireless internet access complete the comfort. The swimming pool with deckchairs and parasols is available to all our guests. The Small Castle, with 7000 mÂČ of mainly natural gardens, is located in a quiet sunny valley on a hill overlooking the sea. Santo EstevĂŁo, an idyllic Algarve village with restaurants, shopping facilities, pharmacy, post office, etc. is only a 15-minute walk away.

The Sotavento Algarvio (Eastern Algarve): Everything you dream of in a holiday destination: beautiful beaches, pleasant weather, glorious sunshine in every season. Let the sun guide you on your way to the south of Portugal and discover the Eastern Algarve, a region whose pleasant climate attracts guests all year round. In winter, temperatures rarely drop below 14 degrees, and daytime temperatures of 20-22 degrees usually allow for long walks and sunbathing on the beach. In summer, temperatures climb to 28 - 30 degrees in July and August. SĂ©jour trĂšs agreable. Le lieu est trĂšs joli et calme. Joe s'est montrĂ© extrĂȘmement sympathique et disponible ( tout en etant discret ). La piscine est top ! Le logement est parfait pour une petite famille comme la notre. Nous regrettons seulement qu'il n'y avait pas de machine Ă  laver le linge. On oublie vite ce manque tant l'endroit est idyllique. Voiture obligatoire pour commerces par contre.

We wanted a quiet location and chose this property.

The property was pretty much as suggested in the online description and photographs. We wanted somewhere quiet and it was. A pool which caught the sun for most of the day and an attractive garden were definite pluses. The Romantika apartment was comfortable, with a lovely, private, south-facing terrace, with (just about) a view of the sea. We are happy to self-cater; the apartment was equipped with everything we needed, including beach parasol, and the owners provided a change of towels about half way through during our 10 day stay. There wasn't a big choice of eating options within walking distance, but that didn't bother us, as Tavira, with its excellent market, choice of supermarkets and range of restaurants, was within a short drive. The owners were helpful, yet discreet.

huebsch ausgestattete Ferienwohnung mit privater Terrasse, Pool und Sonnenliegen (Gemeinschaftsbenutzung) . Wir haben besonders den netten Empfang mit einer guten Flasche Rotwein geschaetzt. Genossen habe wir die bestens ausgestattete Kueche, einen halben Tag Urlaub gewonnen, keine Einkaeufe, Salz, Pfeffer Olivenoel, Tee, Kaffee, Zucker etc. etc., alles vorhanden. Wir koennen die Unterkunft guten Gewissens empfehlen.

Atlantico - excellent apartment

We stayed for 8 night stay at O Pequeno Castilo. From beginning to end the holiday was relaxing and comfortable. I was not quite clear from the website why Atlantico cost more than Romantica but it was more spacious and had a large private dining terrace with an open view - well worth the extra to us. We spent ages watching two little owls in the trees in the garden. I didn't risk the hammocks but they were sturdy. Indeed, everything was of good quality: furniture, comfortable bed, fixtures and fittings, towels, kitchen equipment, solid pans, sharp knives etc. It was also nice to have oil, vinegar, pepper, salt, herbs, pasta in the cupboard along with coffee filter papers, bin bags, cling film etc. So many holiday rentals do not provide these but here the owners have created a home from home. All communication with Joe and Kirsten was easy and quick. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and some fruit. They live in the main house above the two apartments and, while not intrusive in any way, were available to advise on places to eat out or visit. I mentioned that the vegetation was beginning to limit the view from the terrace and before long they were out with their secateurs! If the apartment was excellent so too was the salt water pool with loungers and parasols. Although it was windy some days the sun was hot and the pool very welcome. The other apartment, self contained cottage and 2 letting bedrooms were occupied for most of our stay but we still had the pool to ourselves, particularly during the day as other guests went out travelling. The village of Santo Estevao is not far but you definitely need a car to get the best out of your stay (we used drive4fun). The village shop seems to sell absolutely everything including fresh bread, cheese, meat, fruit and veg, beer and wine. We ate at the village restaurant which has a courtyard. Barbequed meat or fish were the staples, both very good. Our favourite restaurant was Luis do Prego a few miles away. It is obviously popular with expats and justifiably so. The octopus, steak strips and wild boar were all enjoyed. Nothing cost more than €12 - amazing for the quality. We also had a good meal in Tavira, a town well worth visiting. Other places we liked were Fuseta and Estoi. We didn't venture to the beaches but other visitors did. We had a lazy time, just what was needed but Pequeno Castilo is well placed for travelling further afield in Portugal or into Spain. We have no hesitation in recommending OPC.

Eine wunderschöne Ruhe-Oase

Unser GepĂ€ck hat am Anreisetag einen Umweg von Berlin nach DĂŒsseldorf gemacht, bevor es in Tavira landete. So begann unser Urlaub bei Kersten und Joe. Die etwas lĂ€ngere Wartezeit auf unser GepĂ€ck("Wir sind in Portugal und nicht in Deutschland") haben uns die beiden sehr gastfreundlichen Wirtsleute mit Bier auf ihrer Terrasse versĂŒĂŸt. WĂ€hrend unseres gesamten Aufenthaltes wurden wir sehr freundlich umsorgt und beraten. Kersten und Joe kennen ihre jetzige Heimat sehr genau und können jedem Gast wunderbare Tipps geben, wo man essen gehen kann oder am besten zum Strand kommt. Sogar Reiten wĂ€re möglich gewesen. Die Ferienwohnung Atlantico ist sehr gut ausgestattet und gemĂŒtlich eingerichtet. Die Sicht von der Terrasse zum Meer könnten die beiden Wirtsleute etwas verbessern, indem sie die BĂŒsche etwas stutzen.An dem unheimlich gepflegten, sauberen Pool kann man sich herrlich erholen. Wir haben die zehn Tage an der Algarve sehr genossen und werden sicher wiederkommen.Vielen Dank fĂŒr die wunderschöne Zeit in Santo Estevao!!

Entspannung pur!

Wir haben ein paar wunderschöne Tage in der Wohnung "Atlantico" verbracht. Das Appartment ist sehr sauber, das Bett total bequem und die KĂŒche ist sehr gut ausgestattet. Die kleine Terasse mit HĂ€ngematte ist total gemĂŒtlich, der Pool sehr gepflegt mit schönen Liegen. Das Haus ist von einer wunderschönen und liebevoll gepflegten Gartenanlage umgeben. Und vor allem ist es wunderbar ruhig... Man braucht einen Mietwagen, da es etwas abseits liegt, ein kostenfreier Parkplatz ist aber direkt am Haus. Alles in Allem ist dies ein perfektes Appartment zur Entspannung zu einem tollen Preis und mit netten Vermietern. Vielen Dank.

Ein perfektes Wochenende

Wir haben ein ruhiges und erholsames Wochenende in den HĂ€ngematten verbracht. Die sehr gepflegte Ferienwohnung ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail ausgestattet und bietet einen herrlichen Blick auf den Atlantik. Bei sommerlichen Außentemperaturen sorgt die Klimaanlage fĂŒr angenehme KĂŒhle im Inneren. Unseren Strandtag auf Terra Estreita haben wir besonders genossen. Die Nektarinen im Garten sind ein Hochgenuss! Jetzt gehtÂŽs weiter nach Porto – wir kommen gerne wieder!

Sehr schöne Umgebung, das App. ist auch sehr liebevoll und geschmackvoll geplant und ausgestaltet worden, jedoch leider nicht besonders gepflegt. Besonders die Toilette könnte sauberer sein, in der KĂŒche klebte es an einigen Stellen. Hinweise auf massive nĂ€chtliche GeruchsbelĂ€stigungen durch Sickergrube oder DĂŒngung wurden seitens des Vermieters zur Kenntnis genommen mit dem Hinweis darauf, ggf. doch die Fenster zu schließen. Weitere Nachfragen kamen nicht, wie insgesamt die Kommunikationsbereitschaft recht dĂŒrftig war. Über dem Schlafzimmer befindet sich eine Terrasse, zeitweise war das StĂŒhlerĂŒcken auf dem gefliesten Boden deutlich vernehmbar. Nach den enthusiastischen Beschreibungen der bisherigen Bewertungen waren wir recht enttĂ€uscht. Man kann sich zwar arrangieren und letzten Endes waren wir mit dem Urlaub auch zufrieden, aber empfehlenswert war die Unterkunft nicht.

Feels like home!

Hiding away for a short trip from busy Lisbon we luckily found this cosy apartment tucked away in the gentle hills near Tavira. The apartment is beautifully decorated and has a nice view of the Atlantic. We spent 3 relaxing days in this lovely place and are already looking forward to coming back soon.

***** A C H T U N G – WiederholungstĂ€ter *****

Abseits vom Trubel und dem Touristenstrom, in einem „kleinen Castelo“, unweit von Tavira und den vorgelagerten SandstrĂ€nden des Naturschutzgebietes der Ria Formosa, erwartet uns seit einigen Jahren die Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit, die wir von der Hektik des Alltags benötigen, um wieder richtig Energie auftanken zu können. Lange StrandspaziergĂ€nge inmitten der Muschelfelder von Tavira oder einem Schaufensterbummel in den wunderbar restaurierten AltstĂ€dten von Faro und Tavira – hier kann man so richtig die Seele baumeln lassen. Abgerundet wird das Ganze von einer sympathischen Vermieterfamilie, die einem gern mit Rat und Tat zur Seite steht. Neben dem geschmackvoll eingerichteten Ferienapartment steht uns im Atlantico auf der Terrasse ein wunderschöner Weitblick zur Ria Formosa zur VerfĂŒgung. Bei Vollmond spiegelt sich der Mond im Meer und verbreitet eine wunderbar romantische AtmosphĂ€re, die mit einem Glas Wein noch gesteigert werden kann ;-) Wegen der FlexibilitĂ€t ist es allerdings empfehlenswert die Anmietung eines Fahrzeugs ins Auge zu fassen. Hier lĂ€sst sich im Internet immer etwas gĂŒnstig arrangieren – ansonsten sind auch die Vermieter bei der Suche behilflich. Gekocht werden kann in einer kleinen sĂŒĂŸen BauernkĂŒche. Wir bevorzugen es immer, frischen Fisch und GemĂŒse aus der Region zu verarbeiten. Es gibt in der Umgebung zahlreiche Restaurants und MĂ€rkte, die allerdings besser mit dem Auto zu erreichen sind. Lesestoff und I-Pad oder Laptop nicht vergessen!

The perfect escapade

Who thought that we would find such a wonderful place - if only we had known we would have stayed here for our entire holiday! The apartment is very cozy and equipped with everything you might need. The Little Castle is perfectly located: surrounded by nothing but nature waiting to be discovered and yet we could see the ocean from our terrace! The small but beautiful town of Tavira is only a few miles away ( by car it'll only take you 10 min to get there) and the little village Santo Estevao is at a 10 min walk distance. Santo Estevao has a pharmacy, 2/3 cafes, a restaurant and 2 little shops where you can buy almost everything you need to make breakfast - or you can be as lazy as we were and have the hosts prepare you a breakfast you'll never forget - Freshly made orange juice, croissants, Portuguese sweets, fresh fruit and all what your heart may desire. Joe and Kersten: we could not have been better received by you, you were very helpful and gave us all the advice we needed. Thank you once again for this wonderful holiday! Zu Gast bei Freunden

Letztes Jahr im Appartment Romantica – dieses Jahr im Appartment Atlantico. Gefunden haben wir dieses Juwel zufĂ€llig im Internet. Bereits bei der ersten sehr angenehmen und unkomplizierten Buchungsabwicklung hatten wir schon ein sehr gutes GefĂŒhl – wir sind bereits seit rund 10 Jahren immer wieder im Raum Tavira unterwegs, aber seit wir im kleinen Schlösschen Unterschlupf gefunden haben, bleiben bei uns keine WĂŒnsche mehr offen. Von der Terrasse im Romantica fĂ€llt der Blick in einen wunderschönen Mispelbaum. Wenn der Baum im Mai/Juni FrĂŒchte trĂ€gt, kann man bereits morgens beim FrĂŒhstĂŒck dort schon ein reges Treiben verfolgen. Durch die Ruhe der Umgebung ist das Summen und Brummen nicht zu ĂŒberhören. Neben dem Romantica liegt das Atlantico. Beide Appartments sind durch NebenrĂ€ume getrennt, so dass bei Belegung beider Appartments die GĂ€ste von einander kaum etwas mitbekommen. Der Blick vom Atlantico geht in die Ferne bis zum Meer. Die Terrasse ist eingesĂ€umt von Oleander und Rosmarin. In den Rainbows beim seichten Schaukeln zu entspannen ist genial. Nach einem Strandgang kann man auf der Terrasse bei einer Flasche eiskaltem Vino Verde wunderbar seinen Gedanken nachhĂ€ngen. Das kleine Schlösschen bietet viele schöne Möglichkeiten die Umgebung zu erkunden. Eine Fahrt nach Sevilla (ca. 150 km) ist genauso spannend, wie eine galĂŁo in der Altstadt von Tavira oder die berĂŒhmten MandelplĂ€tzchen in der Pastelaria Gardy in Faro. Die vorgelagerten menschenleeren SandstĂ€nde werden bei einer entspannten 10 minĂŒtigen Autofahrt erreicht. Hier sind lange – sehr lange Strandwanderungen möglich! Das Pequeno Castelo in Santo Estevao ist eines der romantischsten PlĂ€tzchen, die wir bisher an der Algarve gefunden haben. Abgerundet wird alles durch die herzliche Aufnahme von Kersten, Marlene, Joe und Leon. Achtung: nĂ€chste Mai ist bereits durch uns reserviert! ;-)

Immer wieder eine Reise wert -- einfach genial

Sind jetzt bereits zum dritten mal zu Gast gewesen im kleinen Schloss an der tollen Algarve. Service und Gastfamilie sind kaum zu toppen, helfen bei allen Angelegenheiten und haben immer wieder gute Tipps auf Lager. Die Zimmer und Appartments sind sehr gepflegt und super ausgestattet. Die große Dachterasse oder die Terasse mit Meerblick (Appartment Atlantico) laden zum gemĂŒtlichen Beisammensein und einem oder mehreren GlĂ€sern Wein ein. Die Umgebung bietet je nach Lust und Laune fĂŒr jeden etwas. Ob bei einem Ausflug nach Tavira, sportliche AktivitĂ€ten am Strand oder ein Besuch in den unzĂ€hligen Strassenlokalen hier findet jeder was er möchte. Beim Einkaufen im nahegelegenen Dorf unbedingt einen Stopp im "Grelhado-Bistro" oder im Dorfkaffee (direkt bei der Kirche) einplanen, einen Espresso genießen und die Leute beobachten. Mit dem großen Pool bietet das Pequeno Castelo natĂŒrlich auch was fĂŒr die Kleinen. Wir haben das mit unserem 9-monatigen Nachwuchs getestet. Eine Liegenreservierung mit Handtuch ist definitiv nicht erforderlich :-). FĂŒr alle die einen Wet-T-Shirt Contest, Party bis zum Abwinken und Abendprogramm mit Animation suchen ist das leider die falsche Adresse. Wer aber gerne individuell unterwegs ist, nette Leute kennen lernen möchte und die sĂŒdlĂ€ndische Lebensart liebt, ist hier genau richtig. Ein Mietwagen ist Pflicht. -- ohne Risiken und Nebenwirkungen absolut empfehlenswert!!! DANKE!!!
