About this property
Secluded Cabin on 16 Beautiful Acres in NW Brown County!
One bedroom w/ loft family cabin located on 16 wooded acres in NW Brown County. Great for families and weekend getaways!
Very secluded, peaceful -- beautiful in all seasons. Big front porch and the property is full of wildlife.
I've owned this family cabin for 25 years and regularly use it with my kids and friends. It's a second home I've tried to make the spaces for comfortable. Nice beds, huge deck, fantastic front porch, cozy living area.
I have a large kitchen with modern conveniences -- convection oven/stove, microwave, new fridge, good cookware, dishwasher (the kountry moveable type), coffee maker & keurig, electric skillet, crock pot, Weber grills, random spices, etc. I stay at short term rentals myself I hate dealing with a lousy kitchen -- that won't be a problem.
I adore music and if you do to, it's a fun experience. The house is wired so speakers on the deck and porch. I have 50K tunes on iTunes, on my computer. I have a turntable and 400 LP records.. The stereo has bluetooth so you can play your own music quite easily. There are also two guitars -- if you play, enjoy these.
There's a wood-burning stove which is wonderful to run during the cold months. Likely required in the Dec/Jan. Firewood is provided. Upstairs and downstairs have good AC through a recent mini-split unit. There's a large, covered front porch with overhead fans, which is where I spend a lot of my time.
The cabin has fiber -- very fast internet. We have two smart TVs and two DVD players, stereo (already noted), a windows laptop connected to the stereo.
The bath is nice -- shower insert, pedestal sink, etc.
One note -- this is a cabin deep in the woods. While we do everything we can to mitigate the native pests -- we still get native pests! Mice and some bugs are an occasional feature, as much as I try...
This is a 35 year old cabin, built from a design by Poole Saw Mill in Helmsburg, IN. It's poplar log that was laid green and seasoned in-place for two years. Then finished. The man who built it, Daniel, is Amish and did a nice job. He lived on the property for about for about five years and there are several charming outbuildings -- an outhouse, manger, canning shed, chicken coop and a little structure on the 'back forty'. Daniel lived in that crazy structure out back for a couple years with his wife and two kids while he was developing the property! I added a big barn and the large rear deck in 2001.

About the host
Hosted by Curt Churchman

I purchased this modern-built (c. 1998) cabin in 2000 and added a large deck, barn and did lots of grading to create a terraced hillside and a large, open back meadow. My kids and I have been continuous visitors through the years. I began renting our cabin in 2015 and hope that you might enjoy it the way we have and do. I live in Indianapolis, raise two boys and own an art gallery specializing in historic Indiana artwork.
Why they chose this property
A wonderful, quiet retreat well off the beaten path. When I drive down from Indy, I open the car door and step out of my vehicle to... total quietude. If you're looking for an escape from your hectic, weekly routine this might be the answer.
What makes this property unique
With sixteen aces and much rolling terrain, strolling the property is a sweet diversion. My favorite pastime is listening to or playing music on the large and comfy front porch. I recently added new porch furniture and have remote operated fans. If it's warm enough, I spend a lot of time on the porch! In the winter, nothing beats a fire in the wood stove!
