Spring break

I am a homegrown New Mexican who now lives in NY. I was traveling back to ABQ for spring break and wanted a great house that “felt like home”. This home has all the New Mexican vibes with modern amenities. Everything was seemless and Michael was very welcoming and gracious we would definitely stay here again!

Casa La Huerta was everything we hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by how clean and well-maintained the property was. The cozy interiors made it feel like a true home away from home, and the quiet surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway. The hosts thought of everything to make the stay comfortable, from the well-equipped kitchen to the small touches that made us feel welcome. The location was ideal—close enough to explore the local attractions but tucked away in a peaceful spot.We can't wait to return!

Great Home In a Great Location

An older home modernized just enough to retain its character and be very comfortable at the same time. Set on a large lot with a private parking area and wonderful outdoor landscaping and spaces. Comfortable bed and very well equipped but not cluttered kitchen. Host meets you at property to make sure you are properly oriented, which is a nice touch. This is a "do again" VRBO for me.

Perfect

This was our first time using VRBO and what a pleasure it was. This home was perfect in every way. The grounds surrounding this home built in 1890 are just as gorgeous as the house itself. How nice to be in New Mexico and get the NM feel throughout. We'll be back again and again.

off the chart EXCELLENT

Michael is the perfect host. Responsive, informative, enjoyable. What an awesome place Casa La Huerta is !. The weather was super windy and colder than we had hoped, so we didn't get to sit outside as much as we had hoped, but it just made us appreciate it even more when we got perfect weather the day before we had to leave. Inside, everything was perfect, very clean, great towels and sheets, even provided plush blankets, and everything you could wish for in the kitchen. We will be back as often as we can to see the awesome landscaping in the Spring and early summer. The photos are great, but they don't even come close to showing how delightful everything is at The Orchard House. (yes, they have an Orchard that was in full bloom).

A Quiet Oasis in North Valley

Casa la Huerta was light and airy, spacious, and homey, with charming New Mexican accents throughout. It had a well-appointed kitchen, and there was plenty of hot water for baths and showers. The bedrooms were roomy and the mattresses comfortable - a must or both of us. Clearly, great care has been taken to ensure that guests have everything they need. Perhaps most importantly, we were impressed (and relieved) by how peaceful and quiet the house and neighborhood were. Our host, Michael, greeted us upon arrival, walked us through, and shared the wonderful history of the property. The outdoor spaces were lovely, even in late February - it's easy to imagine how beautiful it will be when everything is in bloom. Overall, our experience at Casa la Huerta was delightful, and whenever we're back in town we won't hesitate to make it our home again. Thank you, Michael!

An over-the-top Oasis in the Valley

This 2-br home is on a very large piece of property—1 block from Rio Grande Ave NW. It is <1 mile from The Rio Grande State Nature Center, Los Poblanos Inn/Spa, Flying Star Cafe attractions. The home itself is on a beautifully landscaped parcel with lots of outdoor features including a large covered patio with a retractable west facing sunshade. These spacious grounds are completely enclosed by an adobe-like wall with lockable gate. Outside this enclosure is a large secluded and lockable parking area that can accommodate an RV, trailers, kayaks, etc. along with an orchard. The house is an 1880’s era Adobe that has been doubled in size to make for a tastefully styled 2-br 1-bath home with all modern conveniences. It is amply cooled and heated with a mini-split ductless unit in each br and the LR. There are ample cooking and service pieces. Best of all the Host was promptly attentive to any and all requests. I would (and will) stay there again were the opportunity to visist Albuquerque arive again.

Relaxing Oasis in the City

This little house was so beautiful and charming, with loads of personality and a strong sense of place here in New Mexico. We found the house to be so comfortable and cheerful - even a rainy day was bright due to the skylights and many windows. The house had everything we needed, including a well-equipped kitchen, a work desk, and full-sized laundry. Everything was very clean, the water pressure was excellent in the shower, and the beds were very comfortable. The piece de resistance of the house is the garden. Boy oh boy, we spent a lot of our time just sitting in the chairs on the back patio, sipping iced beverages, and watching the bees dancing from flower to flower. At night the garden turns mysterious and alluring, and is the perfect way to ease down, relax, and cap off a day of hiking or museum hopping. The neighborhood is great and there is a wonderful cafe (Flying Star) a short walk away with a fantastic bookstore (Bookworks) right next door. The house was very convenient to I-40 and the airport and a short jaunt to Old Town. We would definitely come and stay here again in this beautiful slice of New Mexico.

Review of Casa La Huerta - The Orchard House (Nov 23-30, 2024)

Our stay at Casa La Huerta - The Orchard House was absolutely delightful! This historic adobe home exceeded our expectations in every way, making it the perfect spot for our family of four to unwind and explore the beauty of New Mexico. The house itself is spacious, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with all the modern conveniences you could ask for. From a well-stocked kitchen with all the necessary utensils to a reliable washer and dryer and fast internet, everything was available to make our stay comfortable. The historic charm of the adobe walls blended seamlessly with the cozy interiors, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The highlight of the property is the small orchard surrounding the home, bearing a variety of fruits like peach, apricot, and others local to New Mexico. Walking through the orchard each morning was a serene experience, and it added a unique charm to our stay. Michael, the owner, truly made this trip special. He personally greeted us upon arrival, gave us a thorough tour of the property, and shared invaluable local knowledge. His insights helped us discover hidden gems in the area and added a personal touch to our vacation. His warm hospitality made us feel right at home. Casa La Huerta's location is ideal for exploring New Mexico's diverse attractions, and at the end of each day, it was a joy to return to such a peaceful and comfortable retreat. We are already planning a return visit in the spring, when the orchard is likely to be in full b

Very special place

This is not your average VRBO. It is immaculate, stylish, spacious and comfortable! The property is large with a fantastic courtyard. There are security gates and it feels like a very private, secluded space. The decor is definitely New Mexico! Michael, the host, was helpful but not intrusive. We loved this stop! Not one complaint. About the host

Hosted by Mr. Michael Aragon

Host profile image
Michael manages this vacation rental. He’s an Albuquerque native who lives less than one mile from the property, and he’s dedicated to making your stay hassle-free and memorable. Michael is more than happy to share with you his local knowledge about nearby cultural sites, markets, shopping, restaurants and entertainment. He knows Albuquerque and New Mexico like the back of his hand - just ask!

Why they chose this property

At its heart is Old Town, just minutes from Casa La Huerta, the site where the original city was founded in 1706. Cobblestone streets and adobe walls characterize this neighborhood where Native American and Spanish cultures still mingle. You'll also find a certain level of kitsch, deposited from the hey-day of US Route 66 that runs through the heart of town. The downtown area's décor consists of neon signs and funky souvenir shops. Head farther out and you'll find expansive homes and lush vineyards in the North Valley, where Casa La Huerta is located, and Cottonwood Heights.

Albuquerque stays true to its roots. Hispanic flavors can be found in many of the city's restaurants (prepare for the ear-popping heat of New Mexico's favorite ingredient, the chile pepper). Native American arts and crafts adorn many a gallery window. But despite its old age—the city celebrated its 300th birthday in 2006—Albuquerque is nothing short of cosmopolitan, boasting funky boutiques, top-notch performance venues and exciting nightlife. To top it all off, the city's proximity to the stunning Sandia Mountains makes it a great home base for Southwest discovery.

What makes this property unique

Casa La Huerta was originally constructed in the late 1890's and was enlarged to its current configuration in the 1930's. It is therefore not configured like a modern home or hotel. It has abundant character and charm reflective of New Mexico, and is very much a historic showcase of what a modest family home in New Mexico was like in the late 1800's. This is what our guests rave about and enjoy, and what makes Casa La Huerta a special place and a very successful vacation rental. We take pride in delivering a clean, sanitary, safe, functional, well maintained and comfortable vacation residence that represents an unbeatable value for money.
