About this property

Cabin on the North Country Trail and close to the Clarion River. Open all Year.

The cabin is situated on 650 acres of privately owned forest, adjacent to the North Country Hiking Trail and close to the Clarion River, yet is only minutes from Clarion, PA. The cabin is available year round.

Between the months of May and November dock space and an observation platform on the Clarion River are provided so you can dock your boat, kayak, swim, fish or just relax on the river. This section of the Clarion River provides approximately 14 miles of deep water for fishing, swimming, water skiing and jet-skiing enthusiasts. Otherwise, enjoy easy paddling and tubing or a variety of other water sports. Bring your river shoes and cameras and explore the riverbanks where river otters, beavers, deer, migrating or local waterfowl can be readily observed and photographed. The cabin is not on the river but just a short pleasant walk. Otherwise take a short 2-3 minute drive to the waters edge. Ample river parking will make it easy for you to bring all your river toys on and enjoy your personal dock. You may as well bring a picnic lunch and drinks so you can eat and relax on the River Observation Deck furnished with a table and chairs.

Additionally, the property is home to approximately 4 miles of National Parks administered North Country Trail. Cathedral cabin, named for the retrofitted church windows and forest cathedral, sits on the trail. Put your hiking boots on, open the door, step off the porch and your hike begins. Guests may choose from at least 4 different trail heads to begin a short hike or walk the entire length of the trail on this property. Ambitious hikers may walk from the cabin all the way to Cook's Forest without leaving the Trail, if you do make sure you have a ride back. Enjoy cascading waterfalls on the Trail Loop. An easy, steep path down will reward with fast running, deep, cold water pools created by the steep fall of waters from our resident Stream, Doe Run. Be careful on the rock formations and take a soak the forest cloaked cold water. If you feel a little more adventuresome you may want to hike the trail east and north, cross Doe Run Road, and spend the night in a National Park Service lean to.

Cathedral Cabin is a timber framed structure that was completed in the late Fall of 2014. It was the first of our 4 lodgings on this expansive property. On the main level a complete kitchen feature native Cherry hardwood cabinets, locally harvested Maple, Larch and Sassafras walls, floors and ceiling throughout. This beautiful, well appointed galley kitchen is supplied with all you need for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Find something you need to make it the perfect visit, let us know. The open floor plan permits all to enjoy the attractive, cozy gas fireplace providing an unparalleled ambience for your visit to the forest.

Abundant natural light helps elevate moods as you enjoy your homecooked meals together at the dining area table.

Comfortable living room furniture will encourage small talk or solutions to the worlds problems. The Smart TV will help you relax with your favorite streaming programs or you can pick from our extensive library of classic movies at your fingertips. if you prefer reading, and forgot your in progress book, choose one from our library. Bring your favorite x-mas or holiday decorations for our ever present pine tree. Make you visit special holiday or not. REMEMBER, the sofa pulls out into a double bed for the unexpected or planned addition to your visit.
A half bath through a small hall on the main floor is convenient for all.
Upstairs two rooms with double beds are ready for your rest. Extra blankets for chilly nights are in the upstairs closet as well as a blow up mattress. If the blow up isn't there and needed, let us know. The main bath with slate stone shower is located off of the main bedroom. Although, this bathroom is shared by both bedrooms we trust you will find it pleasant and suits your purposes well. The sleeping accommodations are ideally suited for a two couples or adults and their children, it may accommodate up to six people considering the lower level pull out sofa.. The cabin is located in the woods and internet has not been available in past years though Hot Spot reception is good. This year we are planning for full internet service. We expect that beginning this summer, Summer of 2024, you will be able to use the internet for work or play.
A unique, large, post and beam covered porch expands in door living spaces to the outdoors. Warm summer days with cool summer breezes will likely cause migration to the Porch. As evening turns to dark our quests most often move to the fire pit. Sparking crackling campfires are a nightly occasion when weather permits. Fire roasted hotdogs or steaks are usually followed by smores or campfire fruit pies. After all of this you shouldn't have any problems sleeping.
Antique and rustic furnishings in this beautiful cabin help set the tone for a relaxing, fun stay in the wilds. Remember, however, this 650 acre wooded property is only minutes from the college community of Clarion, PA, and Interstate 80, with easy access to shopping and entertainment. Get some groceries up the hill at O'neil's country store or do the mall thing with the usual big box shopping.
Your GPS will get you to our road, 2938 Doe Run Road, Shippenville, PA. But likely not the exact location. If entering Doe Run Rd from the west you will continue on about 2 miles and/or until you see a grey sided red trimmed building/house on your right. Immediately before the building is the driveway back to the cabin. If entering from the east (Rte 322) you will go about 4000’ on Doe Run. On the left is the same building described above, make a left immediately after building on to the cabin driveway,
WELCOME!
